OF THE DAY Raced wide without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of the mare, R. Fradd stated that he had been instructed to settle the horse behind the leaders but was prevented from taking up this position when MAGNUS COR maintained a position one off the rail. He added that he did not wish to restrain his mount behind MAGNUS COR near the 800m as he was mindful that when OF THE DAY beat FINAL ZERO at Doomben on 12 August, it took almost the entire straight to run that mare down, and with FINAL ZEROOs light weight today, he was of the belief that he would be giving that mare too much start.

GRETNA J. Byrne reported at scale that he was disappointed in the marees performance, however could offer no excuses.

MAGNUS COR Had to be restrained off heels approaching the first turn. P. Hammersley was questioned regarding his tactics. He added that approaching the first turn jockey Fradd had placed some pressure on him when OF THE DAY attempted to shift in and force him towards the rail, however he was intent on holding his position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
