GENERAL
 
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer A. Plumb for the late withdrawal of DRAGON RACER (Race 2) and BARRAAJ (Race 8) at 12.15 p.m.
 
Race 1: CFMEU QLD/NT Branch QTIS 3YO Benchmark 70 HHCap 1650m
 
PINCH PASSION Trainer R. Heathcote advised from the inside draw today the horse would be ridden more positively from the gate.. The horse stood awkwardly in the gates, consequently was slow to begin and raced at the rear of the field.
 
LADY LARK App J. Guthmann-Chester could offer no excuses for the disappointing performance.. App Guthmann-Chester added that the filly was under pressure leaving the 800m.
 
Race 2: BERT/CIP Maiden HHCap 1650m
 
SOLARCRAFT Trainer L. Kelly advised the horse would be ridden back in the field today from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
TERGRANDE Slow into stride.. Approaching the first turn near the 1500m had to be steadied when crowded slightly.
 
GRANVILLE ISLAND Began awkwardly.
DDAMORE DDMERRIER - Bumped on jumping.
 
MAKING SHADOWS Caught racing 3 wide in the early stages without cover, was allowed to stride forward by its rider and eventually crossed to the lead near the 1200m.
 
DARING DEEDS Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 3: United Voice Queensland Maiden Plate 1350m
 
SILVERWIN Trainer C. Waller advised the horse would be ridden back from the draw today. Jockey D. Browne reported with the instructions from the wide draw to ride the horse in a rearward position it took him sometime down the back straight to get it to eventually settle in a rearward position making the first turn.. He stated that after doing so the horse then settled however, dropped the bit and was reluctant to race thereafter.. He added that when placed under pressure from the 600m his mount failed to respond and was most disappointing.> A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SHANGAI BULLET Began very awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.
 
SHEES A YOUEFFOH Checked on jumping when crowded between runners.. Jockey R. Plumb was questioned regarding his riding after the 1000m where having held a position on the rail he then shifted one off after the 900m to follow CLASSAY.. He stated that he was of the view having been racing behind SHANGHAI BULLET it was a better option to shift away to follow CLASSAY however, not long after doing so the tempo of the race steadied resulting in him becoming awkward at the heels of CLASSAY, which allowed GOLDEN COMMAND to improve up to his inside.
 
CLASSAY Began awkwardly and was then bumped slightly.. For a short distance after the 800m commenced to overrace and was checked from heels.
 
KRUPSKAYA Passing the 900m commenced to overrace and was steadied from heels near the 800m.
 
WILMA Making the turn from the 900m commenced to hang out and raced wide thereafter.
 
 
Race 4: Turner Freeman Lawyers Class 5 HHCap 1350m
 
REALLY REILLY Slow into stride.
 
SAGAMAMA Began awkwardly.. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer D. Bell indicated he would recommend to the connections the gelding be spelled, nevertheless Mr Bell was advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance must be provided before it races again.
 
OCEAN CITY Jockey J. Orman stated that it had been the intention to race midfield with cover however, when trapped in the early stages he felt he had no other option than to allow it to stride forward to cross to the lead.
 
Race 5: CBUS Super Stakes Class 2 HHCap 2220m
As P. Hammersley was overweight stewards permitted R. Fradd to be substituted as the rider of CONSTANT RETURN.. Jockey Hammersley was subsequently fined $100.
 
EQUISTAR Caught racing 3 wide in the early and middle stages before being restrained to a position with cover near the 1300m.
 
CONSTANT RETURN When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance trainer B. Hillls representative stated that at the marees previous start it raced in a rearward position and had to make a long sustained run however, was obliged to race extremely wide from the 700m.. They added that in todayys event the mare enjoyed a nice run with cover and was able to improve saving ground and in her opinion benefits being able to sustain one long run.
 
Race 6: Electrical Trades Union Qld/NT Fillies & Mares 0-70 HHCap 1110m
 
NILETTE Raced 3 wide in the early stages.
 
TEMUJINNS QUEEN The offside winker became detached near the 300m.
 
NAVUA MIST Jockey M. Cahill stated that the mare did not handle the track conditions today and was under pressure prior to the home turn.
 
Race 7: Qld Council Of Unions Colts, Geldings & Entires 0-70 HHCap 1110m
 
EL SHADAY Trainer K. Schweida advised the horse would be ridden back in the field today.. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
FIRE WITHIN Slow into stride.
 
STELLARCRAFT Raced 3 wide without cover before being restrained near the 600m.
 
CAPTAIN LEO Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
RICH AFFAIR A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils.. Stable representative J. Meagher was advised that the gelding will now incur the 3 month mandatory ban from racing and must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop prior to racing again.
 
Race 8: CFMEU M & E Division Qld Class 3 HHCap 1650m
 
HANOVER SQUARE Began awkwardly.. Jockey J. Lloyd explained that the gelding never felt comfortable in todayys track conditions, was reluctant to stretch out, when placed under pressure did not respond and in the straight was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SHARP SPEEDO Began awkwardly.
 
GYPSY MISS Caught 3 wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead after the 1000m.
