GENERAL
 
Due to the abandonment of the Kembla Grange meeting, the times for Races 3 to 9 inclusive were revised as follows: 12:59 pm, 1:34 pm, 2:09 pm, 2:44 pm, 3:24 pm, 4:04 pm, 4:44 pm.
 
Race 1: ST MARGARET’S ANGLICAN GIRLS SCHOOL BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1050M
 
RICH AFFAIR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ALL PLUCK – Restrained from a wide barrier to the rear of the field to gain a position close to the rail. Laid out in the early part of the straight.
 
BEAU ARROW – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
PHABENI – Severely hampered at the start when tightened for room between runners. Had to be taken outwards in the early part of the straight to obtain clear running.
 
SORORITY SISTER – Slow into stride after jumping away awkwardly.
 
HI FIVER – A little slow to begin.
 
TIMPERLEY – Raced three wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 5.
 
Race 2: CLEAR INSURANCE BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1200M
 
MISHANI EL LOBO – Lost  ground when crowded and buffeted on jumping.
 
PUBLISHING POWER – Raced three wide without cover. Checked near the 150m to avoid the heels of PRUE’S ANGEL, which shifted out. Although stewards found that PRUE’S ANGEL had shifted out as a result of DIVINE DICE (T. Harrison) rolling outwards towards that runner, B. Stewart, the rider of PRUE’S ANGEL, was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to make greater efforts to prevent his mount shifting out in similar circumstances.
 
KIEVANN – Slow into stride after jumping away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Bumped heavily by TAWFIQ BOY near the 250m. J. Lloyd, the rider of TAWFIQ BOY, was reprimanded and advised to take more care when shifting ground in future.
 
TAWFIQ BOY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Lost ground when checked near the 600m. B. Stewart, the rider of PRUE’S ANGEL, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 600m he shifted his mount inwards and crowded TAWFIQ BOY, which had to be checked. Jockey Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 15 September and expire at midnight on Friday 28 September 2018.
 
Angled outwards near the 250m and made contact with KIEVANN. Laid in over the final 100m.
 
DIVINE DICE – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
PRUE’S ANGEL – Eased off the heels of TAWFIQ BOY over the concluding stages. J. Lloyd, the rider of TAWFIQ BOY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 3: MADISON CLEANING SERVICES OPEN H’CAP – 2000M
 
PRIORITISE, which kicked out in the barriers after being loaded, was declared a late scratching at 1:00 pm on veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the near hind leg. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on PRIORITISE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:00 pm:
 
24 cents in the dollar for the win #5
20 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
18 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
 
MONTAUK – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
BRILLIANT JET – Jumped outwards at the start, making contact with MONTAUK.
 
INGEEGOODBE – Commenced to race keenly near the 1600m and in so doing shifted outwards, making contact with MONTAUK. Raced wide without cover from the 600m. Laid inwards in the straight.
 
MY GIULIANO – Eased when crowded shortly after the start.
 
Race 4: UMS SCHOOL WEAR QTIS 3YO FILLIES H’CAP – 1200M
 
AILEACH – When placed in restricted room approaching the 1000m shifted in and away from GLOBAL CHOICE and made contact with MYSTIC MIST.
 
ASHARANI – Began awkwardly and was then bumped shortly after. Improved on to heels approaching the 600m and shifted wider on the track. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey J. Lloyd explained that his mount overraced in the early stages and was caught wide before being restrained near the 500m to obtain cover behind GLOBAL CHOICE. He added that when placed under pressure from the 500m the filly failed to quicken as anticipated and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that in light of today’s poor performance the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. Mr Vandyke undertook to report to stewards anything that becomes evident in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.
 
INVIGORATING – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped ASHARANI. When endeavouring to obtain clear running rounding the home turn, shifted out and bumped ASHARANI.
 
MYSTIC MIST – Had to be eased from the heels of GLOBAL CHOICE near the 150m when that runner shifted out. R. Palmer reported that her mount lost its footing near the 750m and was held up in the straight.
 
Race 5: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES QTIS 3YO C&G H’CAP – 1200M
 
As apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester was ill, apprentice J. Murphy was substituted as the rider of JUST FAVULOUS.
 
FUJI FLYER – Taken inwards leaving the 1000m when placed in restricted room.
 
Checked near the 900m when tightened for room and taken inwards by I DREAM OF GREEN. Apprentice C. Gallagher, the rider of DEFENCE MISSILE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of I DREAM OF GREEN, taking that runner inwards onto FUJI FLYER, which checked and crowded ENTERPRISE GRAND, which lost ground. In this incident FULL NELSON and JUST FAVULOUS had to be checked and lost ground.  Apprentice Gallagher’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 16 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 15 September and expire at midnight on Monday 1 October 2018. In determining penalty stewards took into account apprentice Gallagher’s recent record as well as the degree of carelessness and the severity of the interference.
 
Shortly after passing the 800m got its head up when being restrained after racing up on to the heels of DEFENCE MISSILE.
 
FULL NELSON – Had to be checked near the 900m after improving on to the heels of JUST FAVULOUS.
 
JUST FAVULOUS – Lost ground near the 1000m when crowded and buffeted between ENTERPRISE GRAND and FUJI FLYER, which was carried inwards slightly by I DREAM OF GREEN when that colt was racing tight to the inside of MAKFI AMOUR, which in turn was racing tight to the inside of DEFENCE MISSILE. Apprentice C. Gallagher (DEFENCE MISSILE) and B. Stewart (MAKFI AMOUR) were warned and advised to ensure they give sufficient room to runners racing to their inside in future. Checked near the 900m when severely tightened for room. Shifted outwards near the 600m after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of MAKFI AMOUR.
 
ENTERPRISE GRAND – Had to be checked near the 900m to avoid the heels of FUJI FLYER and then shifted out abruptly.
 
FINNFERNO – Near the 600m was steadied off the heels of JUST FAVULOUS, which shifted outwards.
 
I DREAM OF GREEN – Placed in restricted room when taken inwards by MAKFI AMOUR leaving the 1000m. Taken inwards by DEFENCE MISSILE near the 900m. resulting in FUJI FLYER having to be checked and crowding ENTERPRISE GRAND, which had to be checked and lost ground.
 
Race 6: QSCAN RADIOLOGY CLINICS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
 
HAPPY HOOVES – Bumped at the start.
 
JOHNNY WHITESOX – Shifted in at the start and bumped HAPPY HOOVES.
 
IL RICCIO – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Momentarily steadied off the heels of BRYNEICH near the 250m when that runner shifted outwards.
 
MEDITERRANEAN – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained near the 800m to obtain a position with cover. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 300m and was then disappointed for a run to the outside of JOHNNY WHITESOX near the 150m and was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
 
YEAHNAH – Eases shortly after the start when racing between JOHNNY WHITESOX and DREAM KISSES, which rolled in.
 
Race 7: ASCOT PLUMBING OPEN H’CAP – 1350M
 
SOLD FOR SONG – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
EXECUTED – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
TIME TO TORQUE – Had to be steadied after improving on to heels near the 800m and then continued to overrace and had to be restrained on a number of occasions.
 
ROCK FORTHE LADIES – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped EXECUTED. Raced wide with cover from the 700m.
 
SPUR LE JOUER – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: BLIGHT RAYNER ARCHITECTURE NO METRO WINS H’CAP – 1350M
 
HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Shifted in at the start and bumped VOLTAIRE LUMIERE. Forced wider on the track near the 800m and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
BOLD ENDEAVOUR – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
CAPITAL CONNECTION – Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages.
 
SIR MAGIC – Raced three wide from the 800m. Bumped near the 150m when BOLD ENDEAVOUR shifted out under pressure.
 
FASTA THAN LIGHT – Bumped at the start. Rider S. Lacy that the horse got its tongue over the bit during the running of the race.
 
VOLTAIRE LUMIERE – Bumped at the start.
 
SPLITTER – Shifted in at the start and made contact with OUR JAMAICA.
 
OUR JAMAICA – Bumped at the start. Disappointed for clear running near the 200m.
 
ROOD TO HEAVEN – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
Race 9: ST MARGARET’S P & F ASSOCIATION BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1600M
 
DESERT GENERAL – Had to be eased near the 150m when awkwardly placed on heels.
 
REALLY REILLY – Began awkwardly. Improved on to heels near the 1350m and had to be restrained and as a result the rider became awkward in the saddle.
 
CASHING UP – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained.
 
ROMNEY’S CHOICE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
CEDARWOOD – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position with cover near the 1200m.
 
BENICO’S PRINCE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BALIUS – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Witt stated that he had expected the gelding to perform well at its last start, however it had disappointed. He added that the gelding was subsequently found to have been suffering from a virus and as such was treated and freshened up. He further stated that BALIUS appreciated rain-affected tracks and he believed these factors may have contributed to today’s improved performance.
