RIVER FIRE – Apprentice A. Fancourt explained that from the wide draw she was instructed to be positive on the gelding as in its first few starts it has been slow to muster speed. She said that whilst it was not the intention to lead, after riding hard in the early stages she was concerned that she was going to be caught at least four wide so for this reason made the decision to continue to press forward and eventually cross to the lead.

CAMPO SERRANO – Eased down by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

SHONECK AFFAIR – Connections advised that if the horse jumps well from the wide gate it will be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position. After being caught five wide in the early stages, raced wide throughout without cover, and then was hampered on the home turn.

SPUR ME PURPLE – When weakening near the 300m was steadied to avoid the heels of KINGAROY, which shifted out. J. Orman, the rider of KINGAROY, was reprimanded.

LA DOLCE VITA – J. Morris reported that after racing outside the lead he became concerned with the horse’s action on straightening and as he was of the view that something may have been amiss with the mare he did not persist in riding it out and eased it down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from heat stress and to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer B. Smith advised that he would have the mare scoped the following morning, the results of which he undertook to forward to stewards.

SHE’S WORTHY – Slow to begin.

BIANTIC – J. Lloyd explained that during the preliminary he was concerned with the horse’s action and for this reason he sought a veterinary inspection on arrival at the barriers. He said that after having the horse trotted and cantered up behind the start and in consultation with the veterinary surgeon he was satisfied that the horse was suitable to race, and this opinion was confirmed by the veterinary surgeon. He said that in the early stages the horse travelled comfortably, however after going some distance the horse did not feel free in its action and on straightening he became concerned and therefore from the 200m he eased the horse down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound over the near fore sesamoid and also showed speedy cutting to the left hock. Trainer T. Edmonds advised stewards that the horse would be sent for a spell.
