Race 2: Events @ BRC Benchmark 90 Handicap – 2200m

MASTER ZEPHYR – Slow to begin.

TORRENS – Overraced in the early stages. When asked to explain the disappointing performance App N. Masuda explained the horse overraced in the early stages and failed to respond to his riding from the 600m and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a poor post-race recovery. When asked to comment on today’s performance Trainer E. Ensby was of the view that TORRENS may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. Mr Ensby advised it was his intention to assess how TORRENS pulls up in the coming days before planning its next start.

ART ATTACK – Raced three wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to race outside the leader near the 1600m.

ANNATIME - Raced three wide with cover throughout.

As L. Tilley was overweight Stewards permitted S. Cormack to be substituted as the rider of BELLARINA MAGIC. Jockey Tilley was fined $500. Jockey Tilley was advised that he would be prohibited from taking rides at 54 kilograms in the future until he can demonstrate to Stewards that his weight has reduced to a point that he is suitable to ride at the minimum weight.

Race 5: Family Raceday April 4 Open Handicap – 1400m

CAPE WICKHAM – When the pace steadied near the 1000m commenced to overrace and shifted three wide. Soon afterwards CRUZE improved to its inside and it was obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.

QUEEN OF KINGSTON – Near the 500m broke down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have broken down in the off fore fetlock and as a result had to be euthanased on humane grounds. Race 7: TAB Fillies & Mares Class 3 Plate SW – 1200m

LASHONI – Near the 500m raced in restricted room between FLAUNT and MILLY WILL PARTY.
Stewards questioned App  B. Nothdurft regarding his riding of LASHONI today, particularly in the early part of the home straight. App Nothdurft explained that from a wide barrier he was obliged to settle back further in the field than he would have liked. App Nothdurft added that LASHONI does not possess a long sustainable run and for this reason did not make his run wider approaching the home turn and he rode forward with his hands until near the 200m where he was able to ride with some vigour and it finished the race off well. App Nothdurft further added that in his view LASHONI may be suited to stepping up in distance in the future. Stewards advised App Nothdurft to ensure he at all times rides his mounts competitively and to ride in a manner that does not leave him open to question in the future. Trainer T. Gollan explained that the horse got further back by virtue of the wide barrier today and confirmed that in his opinion it does not race well when obliged to make a wide run in its races. Lost the near side hind plate in running.

DENMAN UNLIMITED – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

STAMPE – Stewards questioned Trainer C. Munce regarding the seemingly improved performance of STAMPE today as compared to its most recent start at Eagle Farm on 18 January 2020. Mr Munce explained that the gelding raced fresh last start and pulled hard when racing outside the leader and this in his view attributed to the disappointing performance. Mr Munce added that STAMPE took a fitness benefit from that race and has worked well leading up to today’s race and he expected a forward showing. His explanation was noted.
