Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres

LETITRIPPOTATOCHIP – Raced wide throughout the event.

FLASH JETT – slow to begin.

HINTERLAND SAM – had a tendency to lay out under pressure in the home straight.

HY MOON – slow to begin. When questioned regarding below market performance, App R Payne stated the mare, in her opinion, would appreciate a firmer track and would better suited in races over a longer distance.

STARSPEED – declared a late scratching at 12:55pm when refused to load.  Stewards ordered all bets on STARSPEED be refunded with deductions of 10 cents the win and 10 cents the place face value of the ticket to apply.  SPs are subject to deductions.  Trainer S Mcewan was advised the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

Race 2: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 800 Metres

At the request of rider M Schrapel, declaration of correct weight was delayed to determine if SUSSEX STREET was afforded a fair start.  After viewing the DVD race replay Stewards found that as the start was effected, the mare turned its head into an adjoining barrier and as a consequence was slow to begin. Correct weight was subsequently declared on the judge’s placings.

MORE WORDLY – permission was granted for the gelding to race bare behind after the off fore plate, which had shifted when being transported to the track, was unable to be refitted.

WHATEVER MISS – raced wide throughout.

LUSHNESS – held up in the early stages of the home straight.

INFINITE LEE – raced wide throughout.

NELLIE’S DELIGHT – hung out rounding the home turn.

STAGE LADY – reared at the start and lost ground.

WILD BRITT – began awkwardly.

GOOD GRACIOUS MAE – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had bled in the near side nostril.  Trainer G Hardy was advised GOOD GRACIOUS MAE must gallop 1000 metres in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start. AR53A(7)

Race 3: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

CLEARWATER – barrier was slow to open resulting in the gelding losing ground at the start.  Prior to the running of Race 4, the barrier stalls were successfully tested on number of occasions.

LOST SYMPHONY – raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.

PLUCKY PANTHER – slow to begin.

SHEEZALAIR – slow to begin.  Held up rounding the home turn.

TAN TAT WISH – raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

MAHRATTA – slow to begin.

ALL ONE CLASS – began awkwardly and lost ground.

KELL MARIE – raced wide for the majority.  Taken wider rounding the home turn.

HOLLYWOOD STAR – slow to begin.

Race 5: CLASS B HDCP 1200 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to review the start of the race after App M Schrapel, rider of PRINCESS TORIO and K Gates, rider of BALLINA BAY both reported that their gates were slow open.  After taking evidence from starter C Wallace and reviewing the DVD replay of the start it was established both barriers were slow to open resulting in PRINCESS TORIO and BALLINA BAY being slow to begin.  Acting under the provisions of AR134A, PRINCESS TORIO and BALLINA BAY were declared non-runners with all bets to be refunded and deductions of 30 cents the win and 25 cents the place on face value of all winning bets to apply.  Stewards directed that for the remaining event barriers 1 and 8 be not used. Club officials also indicated the barrier stalls will be fully serviced prior to their next race meeting in July.

HARLEY HOGG – hung out rounding the home turn.

MARINE CORPS – rider N Nishio was reprimanded under AR137A(4)(b) in that when using the whip he raised his arm above shoulder height on a number of occasions over the final 100 metres of the event.

LADY VIDIA – raced wide throughout.

STRIKER THOMAS – after being initially slow to begin was further hampered when the barrier partition of the adjoining stall sprung back further inconveniencing the gelding.

Race 6: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1750 Metres
GET ON – when questioned regarding the below market performance reported rider N Thomas reported the mare travelled well to the 800 metres, however when shifted wider on the track when attempting to improve, failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing from that point on.  N Thomas added in his opinion GET ON failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.  Trainer T. Thomas advised stewards that GET ON would now be sent for a spell.
CARTAGENA – rider C Eaton reported at scale the gelding, in her opinion, failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
DOMINANT STORM – In the presence of trainer D Chujo, Stewards questioned App M Shimodaira over his riding of the gelding, particularly between the 1000 metres and 500 metres where DOMINANT STORM appeared to lose contact with the main body of the field before being placed under pressure and making up ground over the final 400 metres of the event.  App Shimodaira stated that DOMINANT STORM was having its first race start on the track today, and after being caught wide in the early stages of the event, was restrained to a rearward position near the 1300 metres adding that the gelding then had a tendency to be one-paced from that point onwards. After viewing the DVD replay Stewards advised App Shimodaira, in their opinion, he had erred in failing to make greater effort to pressure DOMINANT STORM to maintain a more forward position between the 1000 metres and 500 metres.
