GENERAL

Mr. D. Groves, the stable representative for Trainer D. Murray, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175(k) in that he was negligent in allowing an unlicensed person to handle BOILING upon arriving at the track. Mr. Groves was fined $100.  In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Groves’ guilty plea.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred between Trainer Mr. J. Judge and an employed security officer.  Mr. Judge pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under AR. 175(q) in that he failed to produce his licence when challenged by a security officer to do so, and also failed to obtain the necessary day permit, which then resulted in a verbal and physical altercation between Mr. Judge and the security officer.  Mr. Judge was fined $1,000 with $500 to be suspended over a period of 12 months.

Race 1: VANDERFIELD (JOHN DEERE) GATTON MAIDEN PLATE – 860M

The start of this race was delayed when FIG proved difficult to load. A warning was placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

HOT CORONA – Hung out rounding the final turn which resulted in the rider being obliged to stop riding and correct her mount.

FIG – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced greenly and hung out throughout, and its waywardness over the final 400m prevented the mare from being fully tested.

SQUALL – Steadied from heels approaching the final turn.

TEN FOOT TALL – Became fractious in the barriers.

MISS MAKEPEACE – Apprentice H. English reported that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout.

HI FIVER – Raced 3 wide throughout.

LADY JEUNE – Raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 2: ROYAL HOTEL GATTON OPEN H’CAP – 860M

ISIS MAGIC – Shifted in approaching the 700m before being corrected by its rider.

HOT HANSEL – Steadied from heels near the 700m.

Race 3: COUGHLINS ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1600M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards permitted Trainer B. Hudson to view the photo finish print for first. After viewing the print, he was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

PEXBURY AVENUE – Began only moderately, and was slow to muster early speed. Held up approaching the home turn. Disappointed for a run near the 50m.

PRINCELY SUM – Overraced in the early stages, and then raced 3 wide throughout. Steadied from heels when momentarily placed in restricted room near the 300m.

HIGHER LOVE – Momentarily steadied from the heels of PRINCE OF BARODA (App. H. Phillips) near the 700m.  Apprentice H. Phillips was advised to exercise more care when crossing.

HESSIAN – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, trainer Mr. D Healey advised that, in his opinion, the significant reduction in weight from 59kg to 54kg over a more favourable distance of 1600m was to the horse’s benefit today.  He added that the firm track conditions may have also suited the gelding.  Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: GRANTHAM PREMIUM FARM WORKERS RESORT FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was significantly delayed when LICENCED TO WIN broke through the front of the barriers, and galloped a short distance. The mare underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on returning to the barriers and was passed fit to start.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of 3rd placegetter, CRAFTY AQUILA, to view the Stewards' patrol footage in the early stages to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against SUGAR SIZZLE being declared the winner. After viewing the film, the connections advised that they did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

SPECTRUMS RHYTHM – Steadied when placed in restricted room approaching the 1000m, and again shortly after.

SONA DANCER – Severely checked when tightened for room near the 1000m.

SUGAR SIZZLE – Inconvenienced near the 1000m as a result of tightening to it outside.

SOLO ARTIST – Overraced in the early stages and was then obliged to steady from heels near the 1000m.

CRAFTY AQUILA – Checked when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 1000m. Tightened for room near the 800m when SOLO ARTIST (E. Ljung) shifted in.  In this incident, SONA DANCER (A. Fancourt), which was closest to the rail, was also tightened for room. Jockey E. Ljung was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear near the 800m.

SPLASH OF CRISTAL – Shifted in near the 1000m when tightened for room, and commenced to overrace at that point and shifted wider on the track.

Apprentice J. Murphy, the rider of LICENCED TO WIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPLASH OF CRISTAL (B. Ainsworth) which resulted in that runner shifting in and causing tightening to SUGAR SIZZLE (R. Plumb) which had to be checked. In this incident CRAFTY AQUILA (L. McCoy) was significantly checked and lost ground, and SONA DANCER (A. Fancourt) was also severely checked. Apprentice Murphy’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 15 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 12 August 2018 and expire at midnight on Monday 27 August 2018.

Race 5: LOCKYER VALLEY RESIDENTIAL VILLAGE FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M

OVERGROWN – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.

SOLAR LADY – Shifted out approaching the home turn and bumped COONOWRIN RUBY.

COONOWRIN RUBY – Raced 3 wide in the early stages before finding a position outside the leader leaving the 800m.

NORTHERN DIVINE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out. Hung out at various stages of the race. Shifted in abruptly whilst racing ungenerously leaving the 1000m which caused tightening to SKYLIGHT (K. Yoshida) which was racing to its inside.  In this incident, LITTLE MISS MONACO (L. Cassidy) was tightened, inconvenienced and lost some ground.  Overraced leaving the 800m and again at the 400m.

SKYLIGHT – Momentarily hampered on jumping away.

DITZY DARCI – Steadied when disappointed for a run inside the final 50m.

GOLDEN SUNSET – Raced 3 wide throughout.

LITTLE MISS MONACO – On return to scale, jockey L. Cassidy reported that the mare felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

TURKANA – Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Jockey R. Plumb reported that the gelding failed to respond to his riding today when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. He also noted that the stable would likely send the gelding for a spell.

THE LAWYER – Steadied from heels and blundered near the 800m.

RED MONKEY – Slow to begin.

DANCING ON PARADE – Checked near the 1000m. Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of BACKUP BILLY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in resulting in DANCING ON PARADE (App. J. Hodge) being placed in an awkward position and having to be checked.  In this incident, MR ATTITUDE (A. Allen), which was following DANCING ON PARADE, was also severely checked. Apprentice Phillips’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 4 August 2018 and expire at midnight on Tuesday 14 August 2018.
