JUMP ON BOARD – Began awkwardly. App. J Guthmann-Chester explained that the horse raced in a forward position and travelled comfortably during the first half of the race.  From the 600m when placed under pressure, it commenced to weaken quickly and he did not persist in riding it out because he was concerned something may have been amiss.  A veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer H Page advised the gelding had been somewhat difficult in its preparation in the lead up to today’s event.  The horse had trialled on a couple of occasions, one of which it led and was successful.  She said today she instructed the rider to race in a forward position however she was of the view after looking at today’s video that it may have resented running inside and behind other runners.  She was also of the view that the horse having its first start, over 1400m on a heavy track, was a contributing factor in it being distanced today.  Ms Page added that she will continue with the horse’s preparation, however, will hopefully step the horse up in distance and may consider racing more patiently than today.  Ms Page’s explanation was noted.

TAKARAKKA - Lost its near hind plate shortly after the start.

OUR RED JET – In the straight, continually shifted ground and proved difficult to ride out.

SONIC BLOOM – Eased out of the event after the 800m and failed to finish.  Jockey L Rolls stated that the gelding felt uncoordinated in its action in the early stages and as he was concerned for its welfare he retired the gelding from the event.  A veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer M Caltabiano stated the horse was disappointing at its previous start and after today’s performance he would be sending it for an immediate spell.  Mr Caltabiano was advised that the horse would be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial before racing again.

After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a ‘Soft 7’.

RACE 5: Gold Coast Event Centre BenhMark 75 H’cap – 1200m
1st: Nakanai    2nd: Relampago    3rd: Delightful Feeling    4th:  Primed for Destiny

DREAM SPEED – Prior to correct weight being declared, App.  Murphy wished to view the start as he was of the opinion that he did not have adequate hold of the reins when the start was effected.  On review it was confirmed that DREAM SPEED was fractious for a short time just before the start was effected, resulting in App. Murphy having to re-gather his reins, however, Stewards were satisfied that App. Murphy had sufficient control and adequate hold of his reins when the start was effected.  DREAM SPEED then began awkwardly, threw its head up and lost considerable ground.  Stewards were of the view that it was afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared.

ABSOLUTE GEM - Over-raced during the early stages and then checked from heels near the 1200m.

MARKOVER – For some distance after the 700m inconvenienced and carried back by a tiring runner.
