REACHER – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey M. McGuren stated that he was instructed to settle the gelding where comfortable. As a consequence after beginning well he elected to ease out of the early speed. Jockey McGuren added that leaving the 900m he was obliged to ease the gelding again when placed in restricted room to the inside of DANCING ON PARADE, which resulted in him racing a length further back than anticipated. The tempo of the race then dropped resulting in him racing strongly at the heels of DANCING ON PARADE during the middle stages before being left flatfooted when the tempo of the race increased leaving the 500m. Jockey McGuren noted that the gelding finished the race off fairly and indicated that it may be better suited on a firmer track over further distance. When questioned as to the improved performance of the gelding trainer D. Hansen stated that the gelding had worked and trialled well throughout its current campaign. However it failed to perform accordingly when challenged in the lead in races over a shorter distance. Mr Hansen noted that today the gelding began well and was able to lead and dictate terms over longer distance of 1400m, which he attributes to its improved performance. The explanation was noted.

Jockey Appo added despite racing wide without cover the gelding at no stage travelled comfortably and was disappointing in its overall performance.
