RACE 1: Horse 4 Harley 5 May Class 5 Handicap – 900m
1st: Destiva 2nd: Devils Pinch 3rd: Upstart 4th: Hidden Light
 
UPSTART – Fractious in the barriers.
 
BRAT ATTACK – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Leaving the 600m was steadied when placed in restricted room inside UPSTART.
 
DESTIVA – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer B Ahrens stated that the gelding previously performed best when able to dictate terms. Mr Ahrens added that during its last preparation the gelding was troubled by hoof issues requiring the use of heart bar plates on occasion, however, the gelding had enjoyed a trouble free preparation leading in to todays first up performance.
 
RACE 2: Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st: Aiolos 2nd: Springtime Love 3rd: Boom Boy 4th: Teyssier
 
TEYSSIER - Hampered at the start when tightened for room between runners.
 
JACKPOT JAY - Bumped at the start. Laid in during the home straight.
 
BOOM BOY - Bumped at the start. Upon straightening was inconvenienced by BETAJET which shifted out. Lost its near hind plate in running.
 
CRAB BOY - Shortly after the start was steadied from the heels of JACKPOT JAY.
 
Jockey D McLellan (JACKPOT JAY) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
 
RACE 3: Dr Kee Ong Classic QTIS 3yo Handicap – 1800m
1st: Red Phantom 2nd: Gwapo 3rd: Missy Musketeer 4th: Future Event
 
MISSY MUSKETEER - Hampered at the start.
 
RED PHANTOM - Hampered at the start. Near the 1400m shifted out and was steadied from the heels of VEGANZA.
 
GWAPO - Over-raced during the early and middle stages.
 
RIVER BOY - Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Bumped over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Hansen advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.
 
SHE SALUTES - Bumped over the concluding stages.
 
Jockey D McLellan (MISSY MUSKETEER) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
RACE 4: First National Broadbeach QTIS 3yo Maiden Handicap – 1200m
1st: Captivator 2nd: Notonya Nelly 3rd: Ella Devine 4th: Lightning Storms
 
Acting on veterinary advice, WHERES THE MONEY was a late scratching at 10:00am.
 
ELLA DIVINE – Connections advised that the filly would be settled closer to the speed from the better barrier today. Ridden accordingly.
 
LIGHTNING STORMS - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1100m was steadied from the heels of ELLA DIVINE.
 
BEYOND STYLE - Slow to begin and hampered a short distance later.
 
AMERICAN ENEMY - Began awkwardly. Laid in rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight.
 
CAPTIVATOR – Slow to begin.
 
HEZ EKCEPTIONAL – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
KENDALLS DREAM - Leaving the 500m was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of AMERICAN ENEMY.
 
RACE 5: Smoke Alarm Solutions Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
1st: Zinzi 2nd: Copywriter 3rd: Soxey 4th: Nivo
 
AMARYLISS - Began awkwardly.
 
COPYWRITER - Slow to begin.
 
BEVEILE - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
PRINCIPESSA - Began awkwardly.
 
ROSEXCEL - Shortly after the start shifted in and bumped NIVO and blundered.
 
NIVO - Bumped shortly after the start. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
SOXEY - Near the 1100m was eased when tightened for room by DREAM STARLET which shifted in marginally.
 
DREAM STARLET - Bumped the running rail when joining the course proper near the 900m.
 
HOWICK - Raced wide throughout.
 
YANKEE BUBBLES - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ZINZI – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, co-trainer B Rodgers stated that the filly did not appreciate the small circumference of Beaudesert at its last start when first up from a lengthy spell. Mr Rodgers noted that the filly won a 2 year old metropolitan race earlier in its career and added that it was not the stable’s intention for the filly to lead today, however, the rider was obliged to press forward in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the fence.
 
RACE 6: Edmonds Racing Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
1st: Uh Oh 2nd: Arterial 3rd: Airacobra 4th: Limestone Cowboy
 
RAINS APLENTY – Connections advised that it was their intention to attempt to obtain cover further back in the field from the wide draw. Ridden accordingly.
 
THE TINMAN - Slow to begin.
 
ZOU DER ZEE - Slow to begin.
 
FALCON WAY - Blundered at the start and lost ground.
 
AIRACOBRA - Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
ARTERIAL - Steadied over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room to the inside of UH OH.
 
UH OH – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer G Shaw stated that the gelding was second up today and had benefited from a lengthy spell. Mr Shaw added that the gelding trialled well before its first up performance at Beaudesert where it was obliged to race wide after drawing a wide gate.
 
 
RACE 7: First National Broadbeach BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1800m
1st: Nordic Show 2nd: Walk to the Bar 3rd: Shield Wall 4th: Budget Bender
 
LATINO LOVER - Hampered at the start.
 
KUTTAMURRA AL - Hampered at the start.
 
MCGILL - Bumped at the start.
 
WACKEM - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ROBBERS COBBER - Over-raced during the early stages.
 
SHIELD WALL – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
WALK TO THE BAR - Held up approaching the home turn.
 
LOCUS – When questioned as to the performance, Trainer T Edmonds noted that the geldings best performances have been on rain-affected surfaces and as such may not have appreciated todays good surface.
 
RACE 8: Ontrack Thoroughbreds Class 2 Handicap – 1400m
1st: Le Mattan 2nd: Foxy Housewife 3rd: The Real Spiel 4th: The Sheepish Lion
 
LE MATTAN - Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn and again for a considerable distance passing the 200m.
 
COOCHIN BOY - Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be significantly dehydrated.
 
RITCHFORD - Slow to begin. Near the 200m was eased from the heels of THE SHEEPISH LION which shifted in marginally.
 
FOXY HOUSEWIFE - Blundered at the start.
 
VITAL LOVE - Bumped at the start.
 
THINK LIKE A BIRD – Bumped at the start. Near the 1300m steadied from heels and then over-raced for some distance thereafter.
 
RIVER FIRE - Near the 800m had to be eased when tightened for room.
 
App. J Murphy (RIVER FIRE) was fined the sum of $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
