Mr Fletcher indicated that it would now be his intention to spell the mare prior to it returning to racing.

GENERAL

Due to being dislodged behind the barriers prior to the running of Race 6 App B. Nothdurft was replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 1: JEFFERY ALAN SALTER MEMORIAL Maiden Handicap – 900m

REGRADING – Slow to begin.

ROCK THE HOUSE – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer S. Lee explained that the gelding had only been in his stable for approximately three weeks and was having its first start for the stable. He added that he had been pleased with its track work and whilst not being overly confident considering its previous form, he was nevertheless expecting a better performance today. Stewards noted his explanation.

UNDERTHEMISTLETOE – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by GOLDEN ESPRIT.

ELEGANT ZOUS – Shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with GOLDEN ESPRIT. Approaching the 600m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between runners. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance jockey M. Hellyer stated that the filly raced very greenly throughout and also resented racing tightly between runners near the 600m and as a result he was obliged to restrain after which the filly never travelled comfortably. He noted that the filly had trialled impressively when leading and could only use the excuse that the filly was not suited when unable to lead and when racing tightly between runners. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.

RACE 2: QPF FINANCE Class 4 Handicap – 900m

No racing incidents.

RACE 3: LEA INSURANCE BROKERS Maiden Handicap – 1200m

CHAINSMOKER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

LUCAP – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey A. Allen reported at scale that it was not his intention to lead however after losing ground at the start and when the speed was only steady in the early stages he elected to press forward and assume a position in the lead.

HOCKED – Inconvenienced shortly after the start. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

BAY SHOT – Trainer P. Nipperess was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding due to the poor performance.

RACE 4: PACIFIC PETROLEUM QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 1100m

LOVE STRUCK – Slow to begin.

SHUJUKU – Slow to begin.

TUSCAN CAT – Raced wide throughout.

PUMPS – Stewards questioned jockey A. Allen regarding his tactics and in particular the fast tempo set in the early and middle stages and as to whether there was an opportunity for him to restrain in the middle stages. Jockey Allen explained that his instructions were to lead and after travelling a short distance to comply with these instructions he was obliged to allow his mount to stride forward to cross ENTERPRISE PRINCE to his inside. He added that as a result of this when he allowed the gelding to stride forward it overraced and despite him making attempts to restrain it continued to overrace.  He further added the gelding was able to settle once approaching the 600m however at this point of the race he felt it would have been detrimental to restrain. Stewards accepted his explanation and were satisfied that jockey Allen had attempted to restrain his mount after obtaining the lead near the 900m.

ENTERPRISE PRINCE – Stewards questioned jockey L. Dittman regarding his tactics in the middle stages when setting a fast tempo. Jockey Dittman explained that after obtaining a position behind the favourite PUMPS he was reluctant to allow that runner to establish a sizeable lead, as he felt that runner was the only danger in the race and therefore he was content to race behind PUMPS. Stewards whilst noting jockey Dittmans explanation advised him that he should have made an effort midrace to restrain his mount to enable it to finish the race off to the best of its ability.
