Trainer M. Costa reported that HOUSE OF DRAMA had undergone surgery on its back to file down vertebrae, which were rubbing.
 
From Doomben Meeting 7/7/2018 – Race 2
 
Trainer M. Costa reported that MANAYA had since undergone surgery to remove a bone chip from its off hind fetlock.
 
 
RACE 1: GCTC MEMBERSHIP JOIN NOW! Class 3 Handicap – 900m
 
The start was delayed when ZEGOTA proved difficult to load.
 
POSTMASTER GENERAL – Began awkwardly.
 
LINLITHGOW – Began awkwardly.
 
 
RACE 2: BOOK NOW SPRING CARNIVAL QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
LADY BING – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and as a consequence elected to shift in upon straightening to obtain a run to the inside of STYLISH LOVER however, was disappointed for that run approaching the 200m when STYLISH LOVER shifted in marginally and was obliged to shift back out to secure clear running. Approaching the 100m was momentarily hampered when attempting to improve into a run between STYLISH LOVER and NOTONYA NELLLY, both of which shifted ground.  
 
NOTONYA NELLY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped EPIC PIPER.
 
ANNMARIE – Bumped at the start.
 
EPIC PIPER – Bumped at the start. Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the lead near the 700m.
 
 
RACE 3: RACING AWARDS NIGHT 15 AUG QTIS 3YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
SATURN OPS – Began awkwardly, made contact with the hind quarters of FISH ON and lost ground. Near the 700m had to be checked from the heels of FISH ON. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FISH ON – Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages. Near the 700m had to be steadied from the heels of ANOTHER DABL DOYA. Held up rounding the home turn. In the early stages of the home straight had difficulty improving into a narrow run to the inside of ANOTHER DABL DOYA. Leaving the 200m had to be eased when SATURN OPS shifted in and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running over the concluding stages.
 
MORESKA SWORD – Began awkwardly.
 
ANOTHER DABL DOYA – Near the 700m steadied from the heels of SO YOU WISH when the pace slowed.
 
RULER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
After fulfilling his engagement App M. Murphy (NOWISEVERYTHING) advised stewards that he was feeling ill and was subsequently examined by the QAS officers and transported to the University Hospital for further observations. App Murphy will require a medical clearance before riding again.
 
 
RACE 4: SKYLINE RESTAURANT WINTER SPECIAL QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 900m
 
The start was delayed when RAMTASTIC was unable to be loaded and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2.55 p.m. All monies invested on RAMTASTIC were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.55 p.m.:-
 
22 cents in the dollar for the win - #5 (ELIXIR)
19 cents in the dollar for place of winner - #5 (ELIXIR)
14 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #1 (ARRIBA)
25 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #8 (CASUAL WITNESS)
 
Stewards advised trainer K. Schweida that the colt must compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to starting again. Mr Schweida advised stewards that the colt will now be gelded.
 
COUPE DE VILLE – Slow to begin. App S. Lacy reported that the filly raced greenly throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
CURSE FREE – Began awkwardly. Near the 500m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of TOO HOT TO HOLD.
 
DONKEY KONG – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of ARRIBA, which laid in and away from CASUAL WITNESS. Raced greenly throughout and hung in over the final 200m.
 
MURTALLICA – Bumped at the start. Leaving the 600m steadied away from the heels of MISS MAKEPEAC, then hung out rounding the home turn and was inconvenienced by COUPE DE VILLE leaving the 500m.
 
DRAGON PINS – Bumped at the start. Over the concluding stages bumped TOO HOT TO HOLD and then had to be steadied from the heels of CASUAL WITNESS. Raced wide for the majority.
 
DEL VEGA – Leaving the 700m was eased when placed in restricted room to the inside of DONKEY KONG, which laid in and away from ARRIBA. Approaching the 500m bumped the inside running rail and in doing so became very awkward and had to be checked away from the heels of DONKEY KONG.
 
MISS MAKEPEACE – Near the 600m steadied away from the heels of DONKEY KONG and then hung out rounding the home turn.
 
ARRIBA – Bumped leaving the 100m.
 
CASUAL WITNESS – Bumped leaving the 100m.
 
TOO HOT TO HOLD – Bumped over the concluding stages.
 
ELIXIR – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 5: GALLERY SEASONAL BUFFET WINTER SPECIAL Class 5 Handicap – 1800m
 
Jockey A. Spinks replaced App B. Thornton (ill) as the rider of CANONGATE. Stewards permitted a senior jockey to replace an apprentice on this occasion due to the fact that App Thornton was at no stage going to utilise his claim given his declared riding weight.
 
HARADIFY – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 800m attempted to improve to the outside of BRONZED VENOM and was unable to do so when LADY NO MORE improved to his outside and as a consequence had to be checked from the heels of BRONZED VENOM and lost ground.
 
ANTIGONE – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and over the concluding stages was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of SIDERO STAR.
 
SICARIO – Slow to begin.
 
BRONZED VENOM – Leaving the 1000m commenced to overrace. Near the 800m steadied from the heels of CANONGATE.
 
SIDERO STAR – Raced wide over the final 800m.
 
LADY NO MORE – Steadied when placed in restricted room over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the performance jockey L. Cassidy stated that due to the slow tempo during the middle stages he elected to commence a move three wide leaving the 800m to improve his position however, the mare peaked on its run on the final 300m and proved disappointing. Trainer I. Livingstone expressed his disappointment in the performance and stated that in his opinion the mare failed to back up from its last start on Saturday 7 July 2018 on a heavy track.
 
LIBERTY ISLAND – Near the 600m steadied from the heels of SICARIO.
 
Jockey L. Cassidy (LADY NO MORE) was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
RACE 6: PINK RIBBON CUP 22 SEPTEMBER BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1400m
 
AKAGE was declared a late scratching at 4.02 p.m. when the mare refused to proceed to the barriers. All monies invested on AKAGE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.02 p.m.:-
 
12  cents in the dollar for the win - #3 (DARING DEEDS)
12 cents in the dollar for place of winner – #3 (DARING DEEDS)
13 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #4 (BIANTIC)
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #11(IOWA)
 
Trainer B. Crowley was advised that the mare must compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
DARING DEEDS – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 900m checked from the heels of MR DUMONT when that runner lost ground. Near the 800m was again steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MR DUMONT.
 
IOWA – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m was checked, clipped the heels of GREY NADA and lost ground after being tightened for room between BIANTIC and GREY NADA, which hung in and away from PRINCE MANITOU. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that the interference suffered by IOWA was primarily due to the racing manners of GREY NADA and not the carelessness of any one rider. Stewards advised stable representative that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of GREY NADA.
 
EVERY SINGLE ONE – Near the 1200m eased when placed in restricted room between MR DUMONT and IOWA, which shifted in. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore fetlock. Trainer H. Page will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
MR DUMONT – Leaving the 1000m checked when tightened for room by IOWA, which was taken in by GREY NADA, which hung in and away from PRINCE MANITOU. Leaving the 900m checked from the heels of IOWA when that runner lost ground.
 
PRINCE MANITOU – Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to settle outside the leader near the 800m.
 
 
RACE 7: BOOK NOW MELBOURNE CUP Class 5 Handicap – 1200m
 
Trainer S. Lee was reprimanded for failing to declare S. Galloway as the rider of SOFT TOP by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the mitigating circumstances.
 
The start was delayed when SOFT TOP proved difficult to load.
 
ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
TREASURE GALLERY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 200m and 100m.
 
EXCEEDINGLY – Raced wide for the majority.
 
AMENZEL – Upon straightening was hampered by ON THE SPOT, which shifted out to improve. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
PASSION TO WIN – Raced wide throughout.
 
DRUMBEATS CHOICE – Upon return to scale App S. Lacy reported that the gelding failed to muster speed in the early stages despite her efforts.
 
App C. Gallagher (AMENZEL) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.
