Race 1: TAB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed when KING’S RULE proved difficult to load.
 
HARD CURRENCY – Bumped with ENCIEH on jumping.
 
KING’S RULE – Proved difficult to load. Commenced to overrace when in a trailing position after passing the 1000m and threw its head in the air when being restrained.
 
BLAZING FAIRY – Laid in approaching the 800m despite the efforts of its rider. Raced greenly throughout.
 
KITTY KAT’S KITTEN – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Slightly inconvenienced approaching the 800m by BLAZING FAIRY, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider, and raced greenly throughout the event.
 
BARODA – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
FLICK – Bumped on jumping.
 
TO DEM WITH LOVE – Blundered on jumping.
 
ENCIEH – Bumped with HARD CURRENCY on jumping.
 
Race 2: TAB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M
 
BADOOSH – Laid in when placed under pressure after passing the 300m.
 
SASSENAY – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied passing the 1000m when crowded for room by GEOVANNI, which was laying in away from HALLSIDE HOT STUFF.
 
SOMEBODY’S GIRL – Jockey J. Orman reported that in his opinion the filly may not have appreciated today’s track condition.
 
VANNA GIRL – Slow to begin.
 
CACTOBLASTIS – Commenced to lay out when placed under pressure approaching the 200m and became awkward at the heels of BADOOSH, which laid in passing the 200m, and then continued to lay out over the final stages. R. Wiggins was fined $200 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 900M
 
KAVAK – Bumped on the hind quarters by DROP IT DEEP on jumping.
 
DROP IT DEEP – Began awkwardly and bumped the hind quarters of KAVAK.
 
SAFEWORK – Began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition, and lost ground. Raced in restricted room approaching the 600m between SILVER BO and COUNTRY SHOWGIRL, which shifted in slightly. After this the breastplate broke, causing the saddle to shift back, placing the rider in some inconvenience for the remainder of the event.
 
COUNTRY SHOWGIRL – Approaching the 700m had to be steadied away from the heels of THE DRINKS CART, which shifted out.
 
RED DRESS – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start and then after travelling 100 metres commenced to hang out and raced wide on the course before veering out approaching the home turn and finished on the outside rail and was unable to be tested. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off hind leg. Trainer L. Hilton was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance and must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to being permitted to race again.
 
SILVER BO – Crowded for room to the inside of SAFEWORK passing the 600m.
 
Race 4: AQUIS RACEDAY JANUARY 4 C,G&E MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
TELECOM DANEWIN – Jockey R. Maloney advised that he desisted from riding his mount out over the final 100m as he was of the opinion that it felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore knee. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance and radiographs of the right fore carpus prior to returning to racing.
 
EMMA’S JET – Forced wider on the course by THE DEMTEL MAN passing the 250m.
 
LUBUK – Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run to the between EMMA’S JET and THE DEMTEL MAN, which shifted out approaching the 250m, before being steadied and altering course back to the inside to secure clear running.
 
NASHVILLE STAR – Raced three wide throughout.
 
THE DEMTEL MAN – Shifted out under pressure after passing the 300m before being corrected by its rider.
 
Race 5: 2YO TAB CALCUTTA JANUARY 9 F&M MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
DACKARNA – Began awkwardly, threw its head in the air and lost considerable ground.
 
RED HANA – Proved slightly disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey S. Cormack reported that in his opinion the mare did not handle today’s track condition.
 
SO YOU BEAUTY – Slow to begin. D. Griffin reported that the filly may not have handled today’s track condition.
 
HAWAIIAN GEM – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
SHONO MERCY – Bumped shortly after the start between SLIGHTLY SHADY and RED HANA, which laid in.
 
TOP PINS – When asked to explain the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Laming stated that the filly had worked well since its last start and performed well in a recent jump-out with the addition of blinkers, which were added to its gear for today’s event. He added that with a slight step up in distance and in his opinion today’s race being slightly inferior, that may have contributed to the improved performance. Mr Laming also advised that he did not support the filly today and was surprised by the win. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
ALL STYLE – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 6: THE BEACH CLUB JANUARY 4 F&M CLASS 4 PLATE – 1300M
 
BUFFY – Began awkwardly and blundered on jumping.
 
VENI VIDI VICI – Raced keenly when racing in a rearward position with cover and had to be steadied away from heels passing the 800m.
 
SOJOURNIST – Approaching the 600m had to be steadied away from the heels of BUFFY, which shifted out.
 
CHARWAY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
SHE ZA BOSS – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied away from the heels of CHARWAY and alter course back to the inside approaching the 100m. Jockey M. McGillivray reported that in his opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s track condition.
 
Race 7: TAB C,G&E CLASS 4 PLATE – 1300M
 
ELIXIR – Passing the 1000m, when positioned behind the leader, brushed the running rail when crowded for room by HAPPY HOOVES, which was racing to its inside.
 
SO YOU WISH – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SUGAR BUZZ – Had to be steadied away from the heels of HAPPY HOOVES approaching the 1000m and in doing so shifted in, tightening POOR CORNER.
 
LUCKY JACKSON – Slow to begin.
 
MONSIEUR MACRON – Improved on to the heels of THE ADMINISTRATOR approaching the 100m and raced in restricted room between that runner and ELIXIR.
 
POOR CORNER – Passing the 1000m had to be steadied away from the heels of SUGAR BUZZ, which shifted in, and in doing so brushed the running rail.
 
Race 8: TAB BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1800M
 
BROCSON – Due to traffic difficulties, B. Stewart was unable to fulfil his engagement and was replaced by D. Griffin.
 
ROCBOLT – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
GREAT POWERS – Began awkwardly and was bumped on jumping.
 
SPECIAL THING – Was shifted wider on the track to improve after passing the 800m.
 
REMUERA – After being caught three wide without cover in the run to the first turn and unable to obtain cover, was allowed to stride forward to take up the lead passing the 1300m.
 
MAXWELL – Slow to begin. Was shifted three wide to improve after passing the 800m. Crowded for room approaching the 300m to the inside of LADY RINGO and to the outside of BROCSON, which was taken out by UNIQUE MISTIQUE, which shifted out to improve. Jockey B. Appo, the rider of UNIQUE MISTIQUE, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
 
Race 9: AQUIS RACEDAY JANUARY 4 H'CAP – 1400M
 
GOLD SYMPHONY – Due to traffic difficulties, A. Fancourt was unable to fulfil her engagement and was replaced by J. Orman.
 
TARBERT – Tightened for room approaching the 900m, had to be checked and lost its rightful position. R. Wiggins, the rider of BOLD CHANCE, pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in at that point when insufficiently clear of DESMON’S PRIDE (M. Du Plessis), which was taken in tightening the running of TARBERT (R. Fradd). After taking further submissions from Jockey Wiggins and the riders of the other runners and reviewing the patrol footage stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of DESMON’S PRIDE were a contributing factor and therefore believed they could not sustain the charge to the requisite standard, however, reprimanded Jockey Wiggins and advised him to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Had some difficulty securing clear running from the 300m until the 200m.
 
SHAUQUIN – Fractious in the barriers, put its head down, was unbalanced as the start was effected, began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced three wide with cover.
 
ROSIE POSIE – Held up from the 400m and had difficulty securing clear running until a point passing the 100m.
 
NOTHINGFORTHEPRESS – Raced three wide without cover.
 
DESMON’S PRIDE – Taken inwards approaching the 900m, tightening TARBERT. Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run approaching the 300m to the inside of NOTHINGFORTHEPRESS and was only able to secure clear running after passing the 200m.
 
BRYNEICH – Raced three wide with cover.
