COLLINGWOOD – After travelling a short distance when positioned outside the leader, commenced to over-race and resented being restrained.

MYSTERIOUS LADY – After passing the 700m was shifted three wide in an attempt to improve. Rounding the home turn was forced wider on the course by runners to its inside which had shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on the performance, App. L. Kilner stated that the filly raced in its normal racing position to the rear of the field as per its recent starts. She was of the opinion that the tempo slackened noticeably mid-race and she did give consideration to making a mid-race move, however, noting that the filly can over-race once asked to quicken, she was reluctant to ask the filly to quicken that far from home. The filly travelled comfortably throughout the race and after passing the 700m when shifting wider to improve she was of the view was still a chance of finishing in a winning position, however, was forced wider by runners rounding the home turn and over the final 200m, raced dour. App. Kilner was of the opinion it was a combination of the slow tempo and the circumstances of being unable to run home in the last 600m sectional which may have contributed to the fillys performance today.

Colless explained that at its last start it raced more forward from an inside barrier whereas today from a wide barrier he was unable to hold a more forward position and in his opinion, with the track favouring horses racing in a forward position, ridden back today may have been detrimental to the geldings chances.
