GENERAL

As T. Harrison and J. Bayliss were not riding due to injury, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: CARLTON MID MAIDEN H’CAP – 2180M

The start of this race was delayed to allow for the tongue tie to be reattached to PATRIOT MISSILE.

SHOOT AGAIN – Placed under pressure by its rider leaving the 700m, however failed to respond at that point, before running on fairly over the final 200m. When asked to comment regarding the gelding’s performance,  apprentice B. Nothdurft felt that in his opinion the horse was very one-paced , however found the line reasonably over the final 100m. He added that the horse may benefit from the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.

PATRIOT MISSILE – Slow into stride.

GRUMBLE – When the pace eased passing the 1600m the rider elected to improve three wide and obtained the lead near the 1400m.

ELECTRIC ELLYSE – Improved three wide passing the 1200m.

IDIDITMYWAY – Overraced in the early stages. Due to the modest tempo the rider elected to improve near the 1300m before reaching the lead near the 1200m.

Race 2: UNDER THE LOUVRE @ GRANDVIEW STUD QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1200M

TAKE TEA – Made the home turn awkwardly by hanging out.

BEATSME – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

MOCKING – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Hung out on the home turn despite the efforts of its rider.

SPIRIT HOUSE – Hampered on jumping and lost ground.

Race 3: SKY RACING RATINGS BAND 0 – 65 H’CAP – 2180M

HE’S THE DEEL – Momentarily shifted in near the 1700m and steadied from the heels of OPEN ROAD. Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn.

SHEEZINAJAM – Bounded on jumping. Inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages of the event.

MOMENTUM TO WIN – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that his mount was inclined to race greenly and in his view may benefit from the addition of a nose roll.

Race 4: CHANNEL SEVEN F&M RATINGS BAND 0 – 70 H’CAP – 1100M

ARDOYNE ROAD – Began moderately.

FRANGIPANI MOON – Began fairly before taking cover towards the rear of the field. The mare then began to overrace and was inclined to hang from the 750m to the 450m. Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run between the 350m and the 150m. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, jockey R. Maloney said it was the preferred option to race on the speed, however, after his mount began slower than expected he was reluctant to urge the mare forward as it has had a tendency to race fiercely when ridden aggressively previously. Jockey Maloney then stated that whilst he did consider improving near the 600m he felt that he was awkwardly placed at the heels of COOL MOVER and would have  been obliged to commence a run four and five wide and in his view the best option was to hold up and look for a run nearer the inside approaching the home turn. Stewards noted his comments.

Race 5: SIRROMET CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1690M

TABARD – J. Orman reported that it was not the preferred option to race on the speed, however, the gelding began well and then overraced.

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Raced three wide without cover.

CHARLIE’S WORLD – Slow into stride.

WILLY BE LUCKY – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event before being restrained back to the rails nearing the home turn in an attempt to obtain clear running.

Race 6: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

CAIRNDOW – As apprentice N. Keal was not riding due to personal circumstances, apprentice C. Bayliss was substituted as rider. Bumped heavily on jumping.

SILVERBROOK LAD – Slow into stride.

PEERLESS CRUISE – Bumped heavily and forced outwards on jumping. Hung out rounding the home turn.

VICTORY LINER – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with CAIRNDOW.

FIRST DAWN – Slow into stride.

Race 7: TAB C,G&E RATINGS BAND 0 – 70 H’CAP – 1100M

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 800m involving HIGH COST (M. Murphy), IMA TEAMBOY (R. Maloney), THE ADMINISTRATOR (D. Griffin) and REAL SUPREMACY (M. Cahill). After taking evidence and reviewing the patrol film it was established that both REAL SUPREMACY and IMA TEAMBOY shifted in marginally before being correct, causing tightening to HIGH COST, which was racing ungenerously. Stewards, after considering the incident, felt there were contributing factors regarding the matter, noted the incident and advised all riders to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

ALL IMPORTANT – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.

HIGH COST – Tightened between runners near the 800m when racing ungenerously and obliged to steady.

ROYAL PHOENIX – Overraced at the tail of the field and shifted wider on the course near the 800m before being restrained by its rider.

IMA TEAMBOY – Shifted in marginally near the 800m when easing from the heels of REAL SUPREMACY, which shifted in.

THE ADMINISTRATOR – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping BORN BAD.

WALL STREET TYCOON – Obliged to steady near the 800m when placed in restricted room. Shortly thereafter, commenced to overrace, steadied from heels, shifted out and bumped heavily with BORN BAD.

BORN BAD – Bumped on jumping. Bumped heavily near the 800m.

EXACTAMENTE – Raced greenly and shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider inside the last 200m.

REAL SUPREMACY – As E. Ljung was unable to fulfil the engagement due to transport difficulties, M. Cahill was substituted as rider. Momentarily shifted in when attempting to cross near the 800m, causing tightening to the inside, before being corrected by its rider. When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Sears advised that the gelding, when resuming from a significant spell at its last start, weakened over the concluding stages. Ms Sears added that she believed the horse derived a fitness benefit from that run, and with a good record second up, an improved showing today was not entirely unexpected.

Race 8: BENDIGO BANK BOOVAL BRANCH BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1350M

Trainers C. Allardyce (BRIZ VEGAS) and C. White (LOUIE LA’JOY) were late arriving on course due to heavy traffic en route. Both trainers noted that their horses travelled well and were satisfied that they were suitable to start.

BRIS VEGAS – Obliged to steady from the heels of HIT SNOOZE near the 100m.

IAMPAIDFOR – Began awkwardly, contacting the barrier partition, before mustering speed.

HIT SNOOZE – Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.

KNUCKLE UP – Slow into stride.

REMUERA – Unable to obtain clear running until inside the final 50m.
