SET TO SIZZLE –  Slow to begin.  Had to be restrained from heels near the 900m. Jockey Tomizawa was asked to comment on the performance. He stated he had been instructed to ride forward from the wide alley, however after being slow to begin was obliged to settle the  horse in a position in the second half of the field. He added that the horse was bumped by other runners at various points during the race and he did not feel that the horse travelled comfortably on the  tight racing circuit. A post race veterinary examination revealed soreness across the back.  Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to the horse racing again.

BLAZING HARADA – Hung out and did not stretch out over the final 200m. A post race veterinary examination found the horse to have suffered a laceration and bruising to the heel of the near fore and also lost its off hind plate, which also resulted in a portion of  the horse’s hoof being removed.   Trainer J. Dixon indicated the horse would now be sent for a spell following this injury.   Stewards advised Mr Dixon that if he does not spell the horse he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate prior to the horse’s next race start.

Following the running of this event safety concerns were raised regarding a section of the track near the 800m.   After discussing this and viewing the patrol footage, it was decided that stewards would allow riders  in Race 5 to also observe the footage before taking a delegation of senior riders to inspect that section of the track near the 800m.  Upon inspection it was found that slip marks were present, consistent with a horse slipping and blundering.   Following further discussions with the jockeys and stewards considerations, the meeting was abandoned at 3.57 pm.
