Race 1: Mojo Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1560m

WEAR THE FOX HAT – Slow to begin.

HYPER DRIVE - Apprentice N. Fazackerley reported that when placed under pressure  the horse failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

PREMIERE PLACE –  Made the 1300m turn awkwardly.

BAWAARDI ROCKET – Caught three wide towards the rear of the field in the early stages, and when the pace slackened passing the 1300m was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead passing the 1100m.

DONAVIA – Passing the 900m was forced into a three wide position and remained there from that point onwards.  Rider P. Cullen reported  that his mount had a tendency to hang in and out at various stages throughout the event, and after passing the 500m failed to respond to his riding.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards inquired into the reason for jockey Peter Cullen returning to scale overweight. After hearing submissions put forward by jockey Cullen, stewards were not satisfied that due to the extenuating circumstances he was in breach of AR145 and therefore took no further action.

Race 2: Mackay Casino Nights QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1560m

KINGS COUNTRY – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of  J. Stanley as the rider of the horse.

CRAIGLEA ARION – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader passing the 1000m.

CRAIGLEA VIRTUE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

DANSARA – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CRAIGLEA RUBBLE – After leading for the majority of the event, weakened in the home straight. Rider L. Tilley was of the view that the step in journey may have been a contributing factor in its performance today.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Stable representative S.Johnston was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse racing again.

Race 3:  Cheryl Green Tanning Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1560m

TEXT BOOK –  As there was no other apprentice available Stewards permitted apprentice L. Dodds to take the ride claiming only 1.5 kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance.  Apprentice Dodds was reprimanded for failing to claim his full 2 kilograms.

WARWICK AVENUE – Blundered on jumping away.

MR BOXVALE – Slightly hampered on jumping when tightened for room. After travelling reasonably throughout failed to respond over the concluding stages.  Apprentice Fazackerley reported his mount raced flat and may not have backed up from its run last weekend.

LOKUM – Raced three wide in the early stages.

CASTA – Had a tendency to overrace when leading in the early stages of the event and had a tendency to again lay out under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: Coal Mine Services Maiden H’cap – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed when DRUMEOUS dislodged its rider during the preliminary and then cantered riderless up the 1600m chute where it made heavy contact with the running rail and momentarily became cast. DRUMEOUS was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3.45 pm by order of the stewards with the following deductions applicable.

2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place

Race 6:  Smart State Vehicle Rentals Open H’cap – 1300m

OPTION – Shortly after the start threw its head in the air when being restrained and continued to do so until passing the 1100m, and then raced three wide with cover from that point.

GRAND EMPEROR – Bumped shortly after the start.  Raced three wide without cover for the entire race.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice N. Fazackerley  advised that instructions given by trainer T. Bannon were to have the gelding settle in a midfield position if possible, however after travelling a short distance after the start and being caught in a three wide position without cover, he was unable to settle the gelding and therefore allowed it to stride forward without pressure before obtaining a position three wide joint leader passing the 900m. When asked if there was an opportunity to obtain cover, he stated due to the horse’s racing manners of overracing he was reluctant to over-restrain his mount and was unable to obtain cover. Stewards however were of the view that apprentice Fazackerley had erred in his judgement, and felt he should have made a greater effort in attempting to find cover, but did not believe he was culpable under the rules for such error. Stewards advised him that in similar circumstances they would expect him to show better judgement.

WORTHY HERO – Bumped shorty after the start.

FRIENDLY DRAGON – Held up rounding the home turn.

STELLAR KNIGHT – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
