GENERAL:

Jockey A. Spradau pleaded guilty to charge under AR 124 (1) in that he mounted a thoroughbred horse (GALEA WARRIOR) from its stabling area off course to the racecourse without its appropriate saddling. Mr Spradau was fined the sum of $200.

Race 1: COLONIAL BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1450M

CHARLIE GARCON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Faltered leaving the 400m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have injured its near fore tendon. Trainer S. Royes, was advised he must obtain a veterinary clearance of fitness prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

BLUE MONTE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 2: CAVA CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000M

AL MAH ROCKET – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of rider. Slow to begin.

ALIK – Was fractious in the barriers becoming cast. Declared a late scratching at 2.48pm acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding prior to 2.48pm were ordered to be refunded with following deductions of 27 cents in the dollar on the face value of all win bets and 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer J. Morris, was advised he must obtain two further barrier certificates for the horse before it would be permitted to race again.

HUNTING – Slow to begin.

BAMBY – Slow to begin.

Race 3: TREVOR MORRIS BUILDERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

KINGS FLING – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. When questioned in regards to its disappointing performance rider D. Ballard was at a loss to explain its performance other than it was second up today and may not have backed up. Trainer D. Finter agreed with the assessment and added the horse pulled up well and may be looking for further ground. Their explanations were noted. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MEXICAN YELL – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

PRINCIPLE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 4: LES HUDDY MEMORIAL BRACELET OPEN PLATE – 1100M

LE CHEF – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of rider. When questioned into the tactics in the early stages of the race rider R. Payne stated the gelding refused to muster speed in the early stages despite her urgings and when racing further back than anticipated resented the kickback however ever after shifting wider rounding the home turn finished the race off well. Stewards noted her explanation.

WORLD OF PAIN – Resented the kick back and laid in throughout the race.

SLITHERING SUZIE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 5: CAVA HYDRAULICS BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1200M

Stewards were required to adjudicate into the reason rider J. Hoopert was dually engaged on both NITRO CITY and MY CRIMSON LAD.
After hearing all of the evidence stewards ruled that in their opinion, J. Hoopert, had been suitably engaged as the rider of NITRO CITY and would ride that runner.
As no other rider was available MY CRIMSON LAD was declared a late scratching at 1.00pm. Rider J. Hoopert, was fined the sum of $100 and advised to be much clearer when accepting riding engagements going forward.

NITRO CITY – Slow to begin. Laid out throughout the race and shifted wider rounding the home turn.

ALBERT THE ROCKET – Slow to begin.

CLARION – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ORTEGA LANE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
