QRIC Stewards Report

MOUNT PERRY RACE CLUB: 17th November 2018
Weather: Fine Track: Good 3 Rail: True

Judges: J Leather, T Clarey
Photo-finish Operator: C Weidmann

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres

After all jockeys for this event had weighed out, Stewards located a piece of 500g lead near the gate leading from the weighing area to the race day tie-up stalls. After conducting gear checks of all runners before horses had entered the saddling enclosure, the saddle of HIGH RIDER was removed and re-weighed when Stewards determined the lead had accidently been displaced from the saddle pouch of that runner when being taken to the tie-up stalls. In taking no direction action against either Trainer T Hess or rider M Gray, both parties were nonetheless reminded of the ramifications of a horse weighing in light under AR143 and the subsequent penalties under AR175(k) as a result of this outcome.

HIGH RIDER – raced wide throughout, then hampered rounding the home turn.

LETITRIPPOTATOCHIP – raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

NAVILLUS STRYKER – taken wider rounding the home turn.

CRAIGLEA CELERIO – slow to begin, then laid out under pressure rounding the home turn.

I’M SASSY – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer K Afford was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of the mare.

LIFE’S A WITCH – raced 3 wide no cover throughout.

Race 2: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP: 1000 Metres

Prior to declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the start of this event when LUSHNESS, which was initially fractious in the barriers, blundered badly and knuckled, resulting in the bridle becoming detached and rider M Gray being unseated. After viewing the replay of the start and taking evidence from M Gray and starter Mr G Mooney, Stewards found that prior to the start being effected and when being held by an attendant, LUSHNESS reared and the bridle became detached. Acting under AR134A Stewards declared LUSHNESS a non-runner with all bets to be refunded with deductions of 13c win and 12c place to apply on all winning bets. Trainer D Rideout was advised LUSHNESS would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. M Gray was attended by QAS medical staff and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

PICK OF THE PUBS – slow to begin

CORAL SEAS – raced wide throughout.

Race 3: CLASS B HDCP 1200 Metres

The start of this event was delayed as QAS medical staff were required to attend an on-course patron.

TOY MEEKA was declared a late scratching at 2:40pm when that runner failed to arrive on course. It was later established that connections had advised RISA that TOY MEEKA had an elevated temperature and was therefore withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. Due to no communication or internet coverage in the area of the racecourse, this information was unable to be relayed to Stewards. As betting had commenced Stewards ordered all bets be refunded with deductions of 10c win and 10c place on all winning bets prior to 2:40pm to apply.

MISS MANEUVER – shortly after the start commenced to buck for a considerable distance and lost ground. Trainer L Cronan was advised the mare must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

SAGRE’S POINT – slow to begin, then unable to muster speed in early stages of the event.

Race 4: OPEN HDCP 1200 Metres

MARENOSTRO – slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA PISTOL – raced wide with cover throughout. Rider P Romeo reported in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate todays firm racing surface.

SOCIETY QUEEN – raced wide no cover throughout.

MOLLY MIYAKO – over-raced when being steadied near the 1000m.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1400 Metres

RAYMAX – raced 4 wide without cover for majority of the event.
HENRY’S ON COURSE – hung out from the 600m. Trainer reported in his opinion the gelding was not suited by todays tight turning track.
CRAFTY AQUILA – jumped out at the start.
KASTANOS – hampered on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.
MAGIC SCENE – Unable to muster speed in early and middle stages of the event. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality other than some signs of having jarred up.
