Race 4: 2018 GALA BALL – SAT 24 MARCH BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1600M

A. Butler, the rider of 3rd placegetter JERVOIS NIGHT, was unable to weigh in. Acting under AR. 142, stewards were satisfied that jockey Butler had weighed out correctly and correct weight was declared. A. Butler was stood down from his remaining engagements as he was not fit to ride and will require a medical clearance prior to his next race engagements.

GREEN EMPIRE – Clipped the heels of FABULOUS CHILD near the 1000m and knuckled.

JERVOIS NIGHT – Bumped by another runner near the 400m.

FABULOUS CHILD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near hind leg. Following the race, Stewards became aware that the horse had inadvertently worn Blinkers. Stewards will seek details as to why FABULOUS CHILD wore blinkers when it was not advertised.

KHADIJA – Slow to begin. Overraced near the 1300m and had to be steadied from the heels of LIKE ’EM SASSY.

LIKE ’EM SASSY – Shifted out near the 400m and bumped JERVOIS NIGHT.

CRIMSON GOD – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near hind fetlock and was treated. Trainer T. Cook advised stewards that the horse would now be retired. Nevertheless, a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required should the horse return to racing.

JINGAS – Slow to begin.

FILLY CHIC – Slow to begin. Apprentice A. Sewell reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.

DOUBLE JAY GOLD – Eased away from the heels of CHRISSY’S SPIRIT near the 300m. Trainer J. Lancaster was questioned with regard to the horse’s seemingly improved performance. She stated that the horse had been working well and in reviewing its race history, in her opinion, sprint races were favourable to the horse. In previous starts, after a significant break, it had raced over 1200m and 1500m in stronger races, and in her opinion, she was confident of a forward showing.

HIDDEN GODDESS – Raced wide without cover throughout. Trainer reported that he would remove the ear muffs for its next start.

MAGNUS RULES – Jockey N. Seymour, the rider of LITTLE HUNTER, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. After considering his good record and that his actions had not cost him 4th place, he was fined $200.

CHRISSY’S SPIRIT – When racing to the inside of TUSCAN GAMBLER near the 900m, stepped in away, brushed the running rail and became awkward. Continued to race ungenerously in the middle stages.

TUSCAN GAMBLER – Apprentice T. Williams reported that she was of the opinion that her mount got its tongue over the bit in the straight.

Race 6: HAHN 3.5 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

MASON’S CHANCE – Slow into stride and raced wide with cover.

LITTLE HUNTER – Raced wide without cover.

TWO OF A KIND – Jumped awkwardly into the barrier partition. Raced wide with cover.

CHANGEINTHEVALLEY – Slow into stride.

PEARL’S LAD – Apprentice Z. White reported that her mount hung out in the early and middle stages. Galloped on on the near hind.

Race 7: 2018 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALES – SUN 8 APRIL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, trainer T. Button and jockey N. Seymour viewed the patrol film of the start and after doing so made application for AUSSIE TYCOON to be declared a non-runner. Stewards determined that immediately prior to the start, the horse placed its head down and the barrier attendant has reacted in pulling the horse’s head up. At that stage the start has been effected, the horse has reared, and the attendant has released the horse. The horse has begun awkwardly and lost ground. Bearing in the conditions of AR. 134A, due to the mannerisms of the horse, stewards were of the opinion that the horse had not been denied a fair start and would be declared a runner. Trainer T. Button will be advised that the horse must barrier trial prior to its next race start.

UNCANNY REASON – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. Trainer J. Lancaster explained that two starts previous the 1200m had been too short, and at its next start, with six weeks between runs and over 1560m,  the horse had not been race fit and that today she had taken the blinkers off and the horse seemed to be suited by the quick back up. Stewards noted her explanation.

WINSOMEMORE – Slow to begin.

SOUTHERN ALBATROSS – Slow to begin.

AUSSIE TYCOON – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight and was held up over the final 100m.
