GENERAL
 
Jockeys S. Wiseman and B. Appo’s explanations for being dually engaged in Race 4 were accepted, however both were reminded of their obligations under AR127(1).
 
BIMBIMBI BARB (Race 1) and PETITE ELLE (Race 3), which competed at Emerald on 2 May, were examined by the veterinary official and passed fit to start.
 
As M. Barnham was not riding due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Barnham will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
Race 1: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M
 
ASK NINO – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Rider N. Seymour pleaded guilty to an excessive use of the whip breach in that he used it 9 times prior to the 100m and 11 times in total. Jockey N. Seymour was fined $100.
 
ENCUMBRANCE – Hampered on jumping away. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
TICKET KEEPER – Hampered on jumping away. When questioned regarding the horse settling at the rear of the field in today’s event and also his vigour when entering the home straight, jockey M. Haley stated that he was instructed to lead in today’s event but after failing to muster early speed was trapped wide and as such he elected to restrain in an attempt to find cover. He added that his mount hung in throughout the event and when entering the home straight, when attempting to shift wider around the heels of SCARY SPICE, proved difficult to ride out and as such he could not place his mount under full pressure at any stage in the straight. When questioned, trainer J. Campeao confirmed the instructions issued to jockey M. Haley but added that he was surprised to see TICKET KEEPER racing so far back. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a later date to examine betting records and to view the race videos of the horse’s previous starts.
 
BITTERGREYMAGIC – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
BROOK’S GIRL – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Jockey E. Smith advised that she instructed the trainer that BROOK’S GIRL would benefit with the application of a bubble cheeker prior to its next start.
 
LADYEYE – Jumped away awkwardly. Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 300m by SCARAMOUCHE and shortly after was momentarily inconvenienced by SCARAMOUCHE, which shifted out to improve, and BROOK’S GIRL, which laid in under pressure. Jockey N. Summers advised that her mount became awkward in its stride approaching the winning post.
 
SCARY SPICE – Hampered on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
TATACHILLA – Raced wide throughout. Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of TATACHILLA in relation to its tractability. Mr Manzelmann stated that he would look to experiment with gear and apply a bubble cheeker prior to a future race start and would look to engage a senior rider.
 
Race 2: #SPOTLIGHTONREGION4 BENCHMARK 58 H'CAP – 1600M
 
CHINCHINBILLA – Overraced in the early stages.
 
WHAT A THOUGHT – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MISS STAR – Raced wide in the early stages and overraced after obtaining cover in the vicinity of the 1000m.
 
RESINITE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and as a result was slow to begin. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of RESINITE.
 
Race 3: RUM CITY FOODS CLASS 4 PLATE – 1400M
 
The start of this race was rescheduled to 2:15 pm after ATTIQUE was fractious in the barriers, requiring jockey B. Pengelly to be examined by the Queensland Ambulance Officers. ATTIQUE was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:36 pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on ATTIQUE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:36 pm:
 
14 cents in the dollar for the win #2
9 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
26 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1
 
Trainer A. Coome was advised that ATTIQUE would be required to gain a barrier certificate prior to a future race start. Jockey B. Pengelly was transported to hospital for further examination and as such was ruled unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Pengelly will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
FUN TICKETS – Jockey A. Butler pleaded guilty to an excessive use of the whip breach in that he used it 9 times prior to the 100m and 15 times in total. A. Butler was fined $100.
 
ONLY WANNA SING – Jockey B. Appo pleaded guilty to an excessive use of the whip breach in that he used it 7 times prior to the 100m and 12 times in total. Jockey Appo was reprimanded. In determining penalty, stewards took into account B. Appo’s good record in relation to this rule.
 
SNIPONET – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a bilateral bleed. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, SNIPONET will now be barred from racing.
 
IDALIA’S DREAM – Laid in under pressure in the straight and in the vicinity of the 500m became awkwardly placed on the heels of SCENIC SIGHT for a number of strides.
 
PETITE ELLE – Following its win at Emerald on 2 May 2020 was panelised to carry 58kg.Trainer V. Heading was fined $100 under LR67 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Overraced in the early stages and raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SCENIC SIGHT – Rider D. Graham pleaded guilty to an excessive use of the whip breach in that she used it 7 times prior to the 100m and 12 times in total. D. Graham was fined $100. In determining penalty stewards took into account D. Grahams poor recent record.
 
DON’T DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: #QLDISRACING MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
 
Due to the rescheduling of Race 3, the starting times for Races 4, 5 and 6 were put back one race, with Races 7 and 8 rescheduled to 4:45 pm and 5:12 pm respectively.
 
NOTORIETY was declared a late scratching at 1:54 pm when no rider was available to replace the injured B. Pengelly. Prior to the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on NOTORIETY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:54 pm:

ANNMARIE – Raced wide throughout.
 
AZIOC – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and as a result was slow to begin. Trainer O. Cairns was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of AZIOC.
 
BALNAGAL – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
DIP DYE – T. Chambers pleaded guilty to an excessive use of the whip breach in that she used it 9 times prior to the 100m and 16 times in total. T. Chambers’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 11 May, being the expiration of a recently imposed suspension, and to expire at midnight on Friday 22 May 2020. In determining penalty, stewards took into account T. Chambers’ poor record in relation to the whip rule.
 
JARS – Reared on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.
 
DYDEE’S GIRL – Overraced in the early and middle stages and in the vicinity of the 1000m was hampered by BALNAGAL, which shifted out when overracing. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 5: MARK BUNT MENSWEAR OPEN H'CAP – 1600M
 
POETIC HEART – Jumped away awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer A. Coome was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start.
 
BLUE JEST – Rider D. Graham pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) of failing to ride her mount out to the finish and was fined $200.
 
HEYINGTON – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and had to shift wider to improve into clear running. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
I CAN I WILL I AM – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the vicinity of the 500m and had to shift wider to improve into clear running.
 
ELLE A WALKING – Raced wide throughout.
 
SOUND INVESTMENT – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 6: KELE PROPERTY GROUP OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
FORTENSKY – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
THE BAKER – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
MACHO TYCOON – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Z. Hohn stated that the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and had a good proven first-up record. She added that MACHO TYCOON’s previous start at Thangool was disappointing but the horse had always raced well at the Rockhampton track and was not surprised with its good showing in today’s event.
 
LEVEL EIGHT – Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 200m to avoid the heels of MACHO TYCOON, which shifted out when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey T. Bannon, the rider of MACHO TYCOON, was severely reprimanded and reminded of her obligations to be clear when shifting ground in future.
 
Race 7: ADAM’S PLANT HIRE QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1200M
 
THREE STRIPES – Jumped away awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and shifted out, contacting HEZHOME.
 
HEZHOME – Contacted on entering the home straight.
 
RED SATIN – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
POUND FOR POUND – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
ASTRAL KNIGHT – Raced wide throughout.
 
LEGAL ASSET – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
VAMPARINA – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.
 
Race 8: USG BORAL BENCHMARK 58 H'CAP – 1200M
 
ANCIENT ECHOES – Rider E. Bell reported that her mount hung out severely throughout the event. Trainer Mr B. Johnson was advised that the horse would be required to race tractably in an official jump-out prior to a future race start.
 
THAT’S TWO SLABS – Laid in in the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
ALONEINABAA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to improve into clear running.
 
GREAT FOX – Stewards acceded to a request by trainer T. Cook to replace the injured B. Pengelly with apprentice D. Graham. Jumped away awkwardly. Had to be checked in the vicinity of the 900m and became awkward in its stride when attempting to avoid the heels of THAT’S TWO SLABS, which rolled in marginally despite the efforts of its rider.
 
SEQUALO’S SPIRIT – Contacted on jumping away and as a result was slow into stride.
 
FLAT TO STACK – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight to approaching the 300m.
