General

Following a routine bag search conducted by stewards, jockey M. Haley was found in possession of as mobile phone. Jockey M. Haley pleaded guilty to a charge under 218(b) for having a mobile phone in the jockeys’ room. and was fined $400. In assessing penalty stewards took into account jockey Haley’s record for breaches of this rule, but also took into account stewards were comfortably satisfied that the phone had not been used whilst present in the jockeys’ room.

Apprentice E. Smith pleaded guilty to a charge under 218(b) for possession of as mobile phone in the jockeys’ room and was fined $200. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account this was apprentice E. Smith’s first breach of this rule and stewards were satisfied that the phone had not been used whilst present in the jockey’s room.


Race 1: Summer Bright QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1300m

DACXI DELIVERS – Slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 900m after crossing to the lead slowed the pace of the race and as a result ASK ME TOMORROW, DACXI DELIVERS and I FEEL REAL all had to be steadied. An inquiry into the incident was adjourned to allow jockey N. Seymour, rider of DACXI DELIVERS, who was indisposed, to be present.

ASK ME TOMORROW – In the vicinity of the 900m had to be steadied after the pace of the race was slackened.

CAT IN THE RAINE – In the vicinity of the 900m had to be steadied after the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until the vicinity of the 300m. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of STARFILLY over the concluding stages, and as a result was unable to be fully tested in the run to the finish.

I FEEL REAL – Had to be steadied after the pace of the race slackened in the vicinity of the 900m. A post race veterinary examination revealed I FEEL REAL had bled bilaterally on the first occasion. Trainer E. Smith was advised of the provisions of AR79.

STARFILLY – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.

POINTO’S PICK – Raced ungenerously throughout the event. Was held up for clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 300m. Rider reported his saddled slipped back in the early stages in the early stages, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.


Race 2: PKF Hacketts Maiden Plate – 1100m

PRINCE NUTCRACKER – Contacted on jumping away. In the vicinity of the 100m was bumped on a number of occasions by EXELANT MOSH, which laid out under pressure.

BALNAGAL – Jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SCARY SPICE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey T. Bannon, rider of SCARY SPICE, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight, 26 May and to expire at midnight, 2 June.

WREN PLUCKED – Overraced in the early and middle stages, and in the vicinity of the 800m had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of LADYEYE.

LISTEN MATE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, and in the vicinity of the 400m was obliged to shift wider to improve into clear running.

EXCELANT MOSH – Laid in under pressure in the straight, and in the vicinity of the 100m contacted PRINCE NUTCRACKER on a number of occasions.

DIP DYE – Was held up for clear running from entering the home straight until the vicinity of the 400m.

BRAHMINY – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Following the running of Race 2, jockey N. Seymour was examined by the ambulance officers and was ruled unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Riding changes were notified as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.



Race 3: The Capricornian Maiden Plate – 1100m

MIGHTY MEERKAT – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

BIMBIMBI BARB – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages with its head in the air for a number of occasions when being crossed in the vicinity of the 900m.

THE GIRL IS WILD – Hampered on jumping away, and in the vicinity of the 400m was momentarily inconvenienced by PRINCESS CARTIER, which shifted in and away from MIGHT MEERKAT, which laid in under pressure.

SCARAMOUCHE – Rider reported his mount hung out severely throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the horse.

HUGS ‘N’ KISSES – Raced wide throughout.

PRINCESS CARTIER – Raced wide throughout.

BROOK’S GIRL – Raced wide throughout.

Following the running of this event stewards became aware that the ambulance officers failed to follow the field. It was ascertained that the ambulance officers became delayed due to Jockey N Seymour needing to be transported to hospital for further examination and misjudged the starting time.


Race 4: Caught In The Act Photography QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1050m

LEPREEZY - In the vicinity of the 500m became awkward in its stride after shying at a section of running rail.

TABATHA MISS – Overraced in the early stages.

ZIGGI ROCKS – had to be restrained shortly after jumping away after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

VAMPARINA – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

KING KAI – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 5: Garrard’s Horse And Hound Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1600m

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin.

GLADISHING – Slow to begin.

CHINCHINBILLA – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

ALOOF’S TURF – Laid in under pressure in the straight.



Race 6: 30 Days of Gratitude Jaime Parnell Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1100m

ALL PICKLED: Stewards acceded to the request for the late withdrawal of ALL PICKLED at 8.44am. When questioned, trainer C. Garland stated that prior to commencing work commitments that morning ALL PICKLED had not gained a start and when ALL PICKLED did gain a start, did not receive the message from Racing Australia due to poor reception. Trainer C. Garland was subsequently fined $200 under AR181

STEELZ TIME – Reared on jumping away, contacting the outside barrier partition and as a result was slow to begin.

TWINSPIER – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and as a result was slow into stride. Trainer K. Hanson was advised that the horse would be required to jump with the field in an official jump-out prior to a future race start.

ARTUFO BIANCO – Overraced in the early stages.

PARISIAN TYCOON – Obliged to shift out when held up for clear running in the vicinity of the 300m.

MAGIC WU – In the vicinity of the 300m was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running.

CHEVY NOVA – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Jockey B. Appo pleaded guilty to a charge of excessive use of his whip in that he used it 8 times prior to the 100m, 18 in total, and was fined $100. In assessing penalty stewards took into account jockey Appo’s excellent record in relation whip breaches. A post race veterinary examination revealed trauma to the near-side nostril. The veterinary surgeon was confident that the blood present was due to an abrasion rather than an internal bleed.



Race 7: 990 4RO Rockhampton Benchmark 50 H’cap – 1200m

BROOKVILLE – Awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the straight and in the vicinity of the 500m was contacted by STARS DON’T RUST, which shifted out in an attempt to improve.

ROCK’N’ROLL BOBBY – Became awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MIRACULOUS – Shortly after jumping away lost the use of his near-side iron, placing him at a disadvantage for a number of strides, but was able to regain the use of that iron shortly thereafter. Jockey B. Pengelly reported that during the process of regaining his iron, he hurt his shoulder placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Jockey B. Pengelly was examined by the ambulance officers and was ruled unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

STARS DON’T RUST – Was held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was disappointed for a run in the vicinity of the 500m, and in doing so shifted out, contacting BROOKVILLE.

MAGIC CODY – Raced wide throughout.

DJEBEL READY – Jockey A. Butler pleaded guilty to excessive use of his whip in that he used his whip 8 times prior to the 100m, 11 times in total, and was fined $100.


Race 8: Dynamic Electrical Refrigeration And Solar Benchmark 50 H’cap – 1200m

FOURGRANDMAN – Began awkwardly. Placed on heels on entering the home straight.

PETITE ELLE – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

ASTRAL KNIGHT – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of GRACIOUS GARCON, which was carried in by PETITE ELLE, which raced ungenerously in the early stages.

BOLD SENSATION – Rider accidentally dropped his whip in the straight.

THE CLANG AFFAIR – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

STREAMLINER – Jockey N. Summers pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that she failed to ride here mount out to the end of the race and was fined $400.

DRAGON PINS - A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

SOUND INVESTMENET – When questioned regarding the performance, trainer O. Cairns advised stewards that the horse was having its first start for the stable and could put the perceived improved performance to a change of environment and the fact that the gelding had dropped back in distance and grade following its last run at Rockhampton.


Race 9: Elders Financial Planning And Solar Open H’cap – 1300m

SWORD OF JUSTICE – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

SPRING CREEK – Jumped away awkwardly.

ONEMORE EMOTION – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

Race 10: G & L Dunnett Plasterboard Contractors Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1400m

KINGS COUNTY – Declared a late scratching at 3.20 pm due to no available rider.

JETINTOIT – Slow into stride. In the vicinity of the 300m was disappointed for a run between DIAMOND ACCOUNT and MISS STAR, which shifted out under pressure. Jockey G. Goomany, rider of MISS STAR, was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.

SAY PLEASE – Attempted to buck shortly after jumping away. Trainer Z.Hohn was advised that SAY PLEASE would be required to trial tractably in an official trial prior to a future race start.

FLAT TO STACK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ALONNEINABAA – Raced ungenerously throughout. Jockey B. Appo stated that his mount took hold of him in the early stages and failed to settle at any stage. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Trainer C. Attard was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the horse in relation to its racing manners.

MISS STAR – Raced wide throughout.
