Race 1: CMBM FACILITY SERVICES CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1800M

RED SCARLET – L. Dittman was questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. He explained that in his view the gelding did not run out a strong 1800m, given that today’s race was a significant step up in distance.

ROYAL ATOM – Overraced in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of his mount, particularly after passing the 600m, J. Byrne indicated that in his opinion the horse did not quicken despite his urgings and this allowed other runners in the field to improve away from his mount. He added that whilst the horse made up ground, he did not feel that the horse had quickened as in his view the horse was passing other weakening runners. He said he had recommended to connections that the horse be sent for a spell as he believed it had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer D. Hansen confirmed that ROYAL ATOM would now be sent for an immediate spell.

SANSUI DRAWING – M. Hellyer dropped his whip near the 200m.

FIRST STIMULUS – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position if it jumps cleanly from the barriers. Settled behind the leader after being slow to begin.

MR SCARY – Slow to begin.

Race 2: SOMMER’S FUEL SUPPLIES QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when SPEEDY ECLIPSE needed to be resaddled when the gear which had been placed on the horse was found to be of incorrect size. Trainer D. Heinemann indicated that he had two runners in the event and as SHAKE’EMUP, his other runner, had proved difficult to saddle, he had insufficient time in which to check the saddle on SPEEDY ECLIPSE, however had satisfied himself that staff had saddled the horse adequately. After considering his explanation, stewards took no further action other than to remind Mr Heinemann that ultimately it is his responsibility to ensure that all gear is adequately fitted.

LE DRAMA – Raced three wide without cover. Raced greenly in the home straight.

SHAKE’EMUP – Shifted out abruptly at the start and lost ground.

SPEEDY ECLIPSE – Jumped awkwardly, causing its rider to become unbalanced. Shortly afterwards, the saddle on the gelding slipped, placing the rider at a significant disadvantage and as a result the gelding was not tested throughout the event.

TOBASCO – Raced greenly when being restrained in the early stages.

Race 3: CALOUNDRA TOWING – TOW N RIDE – MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

As a result of the veterinary surgeon being required to attend to a horse, the start of this race was rescheduled to 2:10 pm.

ILLUSTRIOUS DEAL – Late scratching at 1:35 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on ILLUSTRIOUS DEAL be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:35 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #5
1 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
1 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #12

After becoming agitated in the pre-race enclosure the horse became awkward and fell over on a number of occasions before passing away shortly thereafter. Stewards interviewed trainer Ms N. Boyd and advised her to provide treatment records for the gelding. A blood sample was also taken from ILLUSTRIOUS DEAL prior to the horse being transported to the Gatton University for a post-mortem examination.

TAI CHI SPIRIT – Bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, it will incur a mandatory lifetime bar from racing.

ECKER ROAD – Bumped soon after the start. M. Rodd reported to stewards that his mount raced extremely greenly throughout and was unable to be fully tested. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

ZOFF ‘N’ OFF – Raced wide without cover.

GYPSY GREY – As M. Powell was indisposed due to illness, L. Tarrant was substituted as rider. Jumped awkwardly and bumped another runner.

WONZERO – Raced greenly when being restrained in the early stages, had a tendency to lay in throughout the event and had to be steadied when placed in restricted room near the 600m.

I’M JUST PINK – Raced wide without cover.

Race 4: ACCESS INSULATION UBET ‘ORIGIN’ JOCKEY SERIES CLASS 1 PLATE – 1200M

As a result of the delay in running Race 3, the start of this race was rescheduled to 2:40 pm.

The start of this race was further delayed to allow the telecast of another venue.

AUSTRALIAN PHAROAH – Inconvenienced passing the 400m when obliged to avoid heels.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 6.

Race 5: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALE & ENERGY SOLUTIONS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

As a result of the delay in running Race 4, the start of this race was rescheduled to 3:15 pm. The start of this race was further delayed when CALISTO lost a plate en route to the barriers and needed to be replated.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford R. Stewart, the rider of 4th placegetter CALISTO, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage.

BRICKHALL – Held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the 300m. Lost the off fore plate in running.

CAPTAIN’S LEGEND – Slow to begin.

MAQUEREAU – Hampered on jumping away.

SHERIFF BLUEBEAR – Raced wide without cover.

RIVER HUSSY – Jumped away awkwardly, hampering another runner.

BLONDE BY CHOICE – Galloped on on the near hind leg.

LUJAC – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice A. Spinks reported that his mount returned to scale with its tongue over the bit.

CALISTO – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Disappointed for a run near the 300m and had to be steadied and following this was held up until approaching the 200m.

WINERIES – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn.

ROSEBERY AFFAIR – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: PELICAN WATERS GOLF CLUB BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in starting the previous race and a further delay in declaring correct weight.

BEAUDRAGON – Became fractious just prior to the start, causing its rider to lose the use of his nearside iron, which he was unable to regain prior to the barriers opening, however after travelling a short distance he was able to regain the use of his iron.

TYCOON TYKE – Slow to begin.

Race 7: EG DESIGN UBET ‘ORIGIN’ JOCKEY SERIES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M

CUSHY NUMBER – Had to be checked when tightened for room near the 150m and lost ground. J. Kah, the rider of SOCIAL VAMPIRE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 150m she rode her mount vigorously in an attempt to secure a position to the inside of SAVANNAH ROSE where there was insufficient room to do so and as a result shifted in, causing CUSHY NUMBER to be checked. Jockey Kah’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 16 December and expire at midnight on Saturday 23 December 2017. In determining penalty stewards took into account jockey Kah’s guilty plea and that she had not incurred any suspensions in the previous 12 months.

OMNIA MARKA TAYADA – Raced three wide throughout.

HEARTS HONOUR – Overraced for a short distance when placed in restricted room passing the 1000m.

SOCIAL VAMPIRE – Held up from rounding the home turn until near the 200m.

Race 8: PABLO’S TEX-MEX CALOUNDRA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600M

YOU DON’T SAY MOLLY – After initially being declared as the rider, J. Orman was unable to fulfil his commitment due to a prior personal engagement and was subsequently replaced by L. Cassidy. Trainer S. Kendrick was fined the sum of $100 for the late rider declaration.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Significantly slow to begin.

ROCKING MY WORLD – Rider lost the use of his offside rein for a short distance leaving the 500m.

CASINO GARDENS – Stewards asked trainer T. Miller to comment on the horse’s seemingly improved performance. He indicated that he has been quite pleased with the horse’s performance since returning from a significant spell. He added that in his opinion the horse had been working well and it has been the intention to allow the horse to lead in its races and he believes that the horse races best when able to lead without being challenged as in today’s event. He further added that today’s soft track and the step up to a mile were also factors which may have contributed to today’s performance.
