STEWARDS REPORT

SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB – FRIDAY, 5 JANUARY 2018

WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 7M

PENETROMETER – 6.30

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – J. Williamson

Stewards – D. Aursich, P. Zimmerman, L. Hicks

Clerk of Scales – K. Daly

Judge – P. Chilton, P. Golley

Veterinarian - A. Murdoch

Swab attendants – K. Warwick, L. Chapman

Starter – R. Hanson

Race 1: Caloundra RSL Class 3 H’cap – 1000m

CAPTAIN PARKER – The start of the race was delayed when the horse underwent a veterinary examination at the request of its rider. The examination revealed a small amount of blood in the horse’s mouth. However the gelding was cleared to take its place in the field.

OH BOY – Laid in throughout the event.

MR STRACHAN – Jockey R. Wiggins could offer no tangible explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings. Trainer S. Kendrick advised stewards that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

Race 2: Oaks Hotels & Resorts Maiden H’cap – 2200m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by Jockey N. Thomas, rider of the second placegetter, ESOR, against LITTLE MISS MONACO being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, it was established that when attempting to secure clear running to the inside of LITTLE MISS MONACO, ESOR was disappointed for a run and as a result its rider directed outwards in an attempt to secure clear running, and whilst stewards were satisfied this had some bearing on the horse’s performance, they were not satisfied that the horse had lost sufficient ground to reverse the neck margin and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

MR BOOMBASTIC – Slow to begin.

KIRA’S BEAT – Overraced in the early and middle stages due to the slow pace which was set.

LITTLE MISS MONACO – Obliged to alter course when held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

VELLEITY – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance approaching the 200m when inclined to lay in.

MATCH DAY – Raced 3 wide.

Race 3: SCTC January Summer Pass Maiden Plate – 1200m

THE DANGER – Slow to begin. Significantly inconvenienced near the 1000m, almost dislodging its rider when RED MAHOGANY fell near the 1000m.

HENRY’S AFFAIR – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m clipped the legs of the fallen runner, blundered and dislodged jockey N. Thomas.

GAMBLING DOLL - Near the 1000m, when placed in restricted room, shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, causing runners to its inside to clip heels and fall. The mare continued to race ungenerously from that point onwards and proved difficult to handle throughout the event. Trainer S. Mackkinnon was advised that the mare must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start. He stated that the horse was badly galloped on on both hindlegs and would more than likely be sent for a spell.

CHAR CHAR – Was placed in restricted room near the 1000m.

RED MAHOGANY - Clipped the heels of another runner near the 1000m and fell, dislodging its rider.

REAL MACHINE – Had to be checked significantly near the 1000m to avoid the fallen runner and shifted out abruptly, interfering with other runners.

DUKE OF CLEVELAND – Checked significantly and forced wider on the track near the 1000m to avoid the fallen runner.

LOVE BITES – Held up from leaving the 400m onwards and went to the line without being fully tested.

NAVILLUS DOLLY – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

WRITINKO – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SHE’S A MITZY – Jockey L. Dittman reported at scale his mount laid in significantly from rounding the home turn onwards, placing him at a disadvantage over the concluding stages, causing him to be unable to fully test his mount. Stewards advised trainer C. Hickey that as the horse has previously had a warning for similar manners, it would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.

Race 4: www.sctc.com.au QTIS 3yo CG&E Maiden Plate – 1200m

The start of this race was rescheduled to 5.32 pm due to the delay with the falls in Race 3.

POTAWATOMI – The start was significantly delayed when the horse proved difficult to load. Trainer A. Williamson was advised that a further barrier certificate will be required for the horse prior to its next race start. Slow to begin. Shifted out to obtain clear running after passing the 600m and made heavy contact with another runner and again shifted out approaching the home turn, making heavy contact with another runner.

COULDABINAJETSKI – Slow to begin.

DROVER’S YARN – Slow to begin.

GO HORSEY - Was inconvenienced by another runner after passing the 600m and again when rounding the home turn was inconvenienced and forced wider on the track.

HEART OF TOORAK – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and made contact with another runner on a number of occasions.

FLYING MAGIC – Bumped by another runner on a number of occasions rounding the home turn. Raced wide.

BAUHINIA STORM – Raced 3 wide without cover.

Race 5: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Class 2 H’cap – 1200m

MR CHOW – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ESSAKA – Overaced in the early and middle stages.

TESTA DONNA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

PINCH MOUNTAIN – Jockey B. Grylls, rider of ESSAKA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless in that shortly after entering the home straight, shifted in in order to secure clear running when not sufficiently clear of PINCH MOUNTAIN, causing that horse to be tightened on to the fence and significantly checked. Jockey Grylls was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 13 January and to expire at midnight, 24 January.

Race 6: SCTC Functions and Events Class 4 H’cap – 1600m

BRONZEGATE – Declared a late scratching at 6.57 pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets

3 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win

6 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets

6 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets

Connections were advised that they must provide a barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next start.

OLD HABITS – Slow to begin.

BEXSTAR – Slow to begin. Overraced significantly in the early stages and had to be checked badly near the 1400m and then continued to overrace in the middle stages.

HARD EVIDENCE – Inconvenienced on jumping away and lost ground.

VAULTING AMBITION – Shifted wider near the 800m to improve and raced 3 wide without cover from that point onwards.

MR ATTITUDE – Jockey B. Stewart reported it had not been his intention to lead, however after beginning well he was unable to obtain cover so he elected to stride forward in the early stages.
