GENERAL

As J. Orman and B. Grylls were indisposed due to injury, and as N. Thomas failed to gain a clearance to ride from the Club doctor, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: DOLPHIN STADIUM CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1400M

HIDDEN GOLD – Overraced whilst in a three wide position during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and settle outside the lead after passing the 800m.

ADOBE MIST – Overraced in the early stages before obtaining cover when passing the 800m. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, C. Whitley indicated that overall he felt it was disappointing. He added that the horse was not suited by the tempo of the race and that he would have preferred to have settled further back in the field. He said that as the horse overraced in the early stages, this had an effect on the overall performance.

HOT TEMPO – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 2: DOLPHINS CLUBHOUSE QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when BURNING SUCCESS proved difficult to load.

NARDA SHAR – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. J. Byrne reported that it had been his intention to settle just behind the lead if possible, however after his mount began poorly, he was obliged to settle at the rear of the field.

CURSE FREE – Had to be restrained near the 300m when placed in restricted room whilst weakening.

PIANO MAN – Slow to begin.

AETHERIUS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

ENDLESS SIZZLE – Shifted out under pressure near the 300m, tightening another runner.

PENNINO – Ridden forward to the lead in the early stages, then commenced to overrace until passing the 800m.

Race 3: EMMA & KATE POWELL F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

TEAGZ – Jumped away awkwardly and then commenced to hang out from the 900m and made the home turn quite wide. Trainer M. Mair was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly.

MISS MANEUVER – L. Tarrant reported that he felt the horse pulled up awkward in its action following the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

FORGOTTEN FEELING – Slipped over in the enclosure, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Underwent a further veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to race.

Race 4: PROLIQUOR GROUP OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

TISANI TOMSO – Slow to begin.

DIVINE SERVICE – Raced wide throughout.

TARZAN – Inclined to lay out throughout the event.

POWERFUL SAGA – Jumped awkwardly, causing its rider to become unbalanced. Raced wide without cover. Lost the off fore plate in running.

BRAVE DAZZLER – Slow to begin.

KINGAROY – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 450m and had to be steadied. Returned to scale with lacerations to both hind fetlocks.

TIARNAN – Significantly slow to begin.

CREATIONIST – Bumped by another runner near the 450m when tiring and was obliged to shift out. G. Colless reported that the horse’s disappointing performance could be attributed to today’s Good 3 track as the horse races best in soft going or worse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ANGELA’S BEAUTY – Forced wider and significantly hampered by another runner after passing the 1700m and then raced three wide without cover from that point onwards.

BEXSTAR – Competed in a 1600m event at Sunshine Coast on Friday, 5 January 2017, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace after passing the 1700m, causing the rider to shift out to avoid heels, and improved in a three wide position before taking up the lead passing the 1200m. Stewards inquired into the horse overracing and causing interference near the 1700m and as a result advised trainer S. Laxon that the horse would be required to officially barrier trial at a distance of more than 800m prior to its next race start.

Race 6: PROLIQUOR SECURITY MAIDEN PLATE – 1600M

BIG VEGA – Overraced for a short distance passing the 1200m.

ELVISON – L. Tarrant dropped his whip near the 100m.

HIDDEN ACTION – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

INVINCIBOY – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

PENTAGRAM – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout and shifted out wider passing the 600m to improve and as a result hade the home turn extremely wide.

PRINCE SILENCE – Raced wide throughout.

STRIKER THOMAS – Overraced badly in the early stages and had to be checked from heels near the 1300m.

MERLIN THE WIZARD – As J. Morris had been stood down by the Club doctor, L. Cassidy was substituted as rider. Raced wide throughout without cover.

RISEUPSKATING – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight until approaching the 200m.

TRAVISTEE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards interviewed trainer P. Jenkins and jockey J. Byrne regarding the tactics adopted on the horse. In light of the horse’s first start, stewards anticipated that the horse may roll forward in today’s event. Jockey Byrne indicated that his pre-race tactics had been to pressure the horse to race in a forward position as he did not feel there was a lot of pace in the event, however the horse began awkwardly out of the barriers and was somewhat slowly away and he therefore elected to attempt to obtain a position with cover closer to the fence. He advised that he was obliged to restrain back to the tail of the field in order to do this. He said when asked for an effort rounding the home turn, the horse responded and finished the race off well. He added that the horse, when under pressure in the straight, was green and inclined to hang in. Mr Jenkins confirmed the pre-race tactics. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 7: VISIT MORETON BAY REGION C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

PRIDE OF DESTINY – Hung out rounding the home turn.

WIRNPA – Tightened for room shortly after the start. M. Cahill reported that his mount was unable to muster early speed despite being ridden aggressively in the early stages.

ECKER ROAD – T. Brooker reported that her mount raced greenly, hung out passing the 600m and was then inclined to hang in when rounding the home turn and when under pressure in the home straight.

COOCHIN BOY – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped another runner. J. Byrne reported that the horse felt awkward in its action in the home straight and was very disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer D. Hansen advised that he would have the horse examined in coming days, the findings of which he would report to stewards.

DON’T LEAVE ME OUT – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 800m and forced wider.

YOU  DONT SAY MOLLY – Hung out after passing the winning post on the first occasion and shifted extremely wide wide on the track until passing the 1500m.

LASER SIGHT – Forced wider approaching the 1800m and remained wide outside the heels of YOU DONT SAY MOLLY until leaving the 1600m. Shifted out to improve passing the 900m and raced wide without cover from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be making an abnormal respiratory noise.
