Race 1: Caloundra Panthers Past Players Maiden Plate – 1600m
 
COUNTRY LUCK – Change of tactics. Connections advised it was intended to obtain cover in the second half of the field as the gelding has previously had a tendency to overrace when ridden forward. The horse  was ridden accordingly.  Slow into stride.
 
ABSTAIN – Restrained from its wide barrier to a rearward position. Near the 500m improved on to the heels of the weakening LIGHTNING STORMS and as a result  had to be checked and shifted wider.
 
 
 
THE PONY – Apprentice S. Lacy reported it had not been the intention to lead, however in the early stages where she believed her mount would have been caught wide she elected to ride vigorously to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the fence. She also added her mount hung out in the home straight.
 
LIGHTNING STORMS – Weakened badly from the 600m and failed to complete the course. A post race veterinary examination found the horse had been significantly galloped on on the near hind leg and was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be obtained, including an ECG, and the horse must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.
 
ROTHFORD – When the pace being set in the early stages was very slow, jockey R. Wiggins elected to shift wider on the track and improved forward to obtain the lead passing the 900m.
 
RECKLESS CHOICE – Overraced and was checked from heels on a number of occasions after passing the 1200m due to the slow pace which was being set at the time. From the 600m after improving on to heels again was shifted wider and ridden forward.
 
 
 
Race 2: Caloundra Bowls Club Class 2 Plate – 1800m
 
REMARKABLE SON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and made contact with another runner over the concluding stages.
 
TERRA SANCTA – When being restrained to settle passing the 1600m had a tendency to lay out. Buffeted by another runner over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 3:  Terry ‘Hassa’ Adams Memorial QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1400m
 
SEQUABLUR – Prior to the race shifted a plate and had to be reshod.  Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.   Stewards questioned jockey R. Wiggins regarding his tactics adopted in the home straight after being held up rounding the turn and in the early stages of the home straight.  Stewards questioned whether an opportunity did present itself  to improve to the inside of NORTHERN DRAGON and to the outside of RELIABLE LASS rather than shift wider on the track. Jockey Wiggins indicated that he had considered improving into this position, however as NOTONYA NELLY  had commenced to shift out when racing forward of RELIABLE LASS, he anticipated this run closing. He added that after committing to shift outside NORTHERN DRAGON he became aware that that horse  had commenced to shift ground outwards under pressure.  He added with hindsight had he known NORTHERN DRAGON would shift ground outwards he would have preferred to stay in this position to the inside of that horse.  Stewards after perusing the patrol film and considering jockey Wiggins’ explanation, were satisfied that his actions were reasonable under the circumstances, and whilst they may have had a bearing on the overall finishing position were not satisfied that his actions were culpable under the rules and therefore took no action. 
 
 
 
RELIABLE LASS – Slow to begin.
 
LEOPARD QUEEN – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
NORTHERN DRAGON – Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
 
Race 4: Selectlok QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1000m
 
LOVE YOU LUCY –  Broke through the barriers after becoming fractious, and was declared a late scratching at 1.47 pm.  Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.
 
5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
7  cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
7 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
4 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have suffered significant lacerations to the near side hock.  Trainer B. Squair  was advised that he must provide a further  barrier certificate for the filly prior to its next race start.  
 
PRIVATE CLIENT – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
JULE’S SPIRIT – Attempted to buck during the early stages and lost significant ground.  Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding over the concluding stages.  It was reported by jockey Orman that the saddle had slipped back during the early stages.   Trainer K. Schweider was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
LUVYOULONGTIME – Obliged to race in restricted room after passing the 600m and made contact with the running rail.
 
CRYPTONATOR – Jockey D. Browne reported his mount raced greenly throughout the event.
 
BOOM GIRL – Raced wide without cover.
 
 
Race 5: Computercut Signs Maiden H’cap – 1200m
 
TUTOKANULA – Slow to begin. Became awkward inside heels near the 800m after racing ungenerously for a short distance.  Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOUNTY HUNTER – Inconvenienced shortly after the start and had to be steadied.
 
CHICOUTIMI – Improved onto heels after passing the 500m and had to be steadied. An inquiry was adjourned into the use of the whip by apprentice S. Sweeney in the straight.
 
THE PARTY GIRL – Raced 3 wide without cover.  Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $800  for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 6: Tyrewise Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
 
NOT TONIGHT DEAR – The start was delayed when the horse broke through the barriers and cantered a short distance. Returned to the  barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
 
TOTALLY CHARMED – Slow to begin.
 
TAY SWIFT – Slow to begin.
 
CREIDNE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ECKER ROAD – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
 
Race 7: Hotondo Homes Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1200m
 
CELLYSE – Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Murphy as the rider of the horse by the prescribed time.  Slow to begin.
 
MEWSTONE ROCK – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running passing the 400m and until the 300m.
 
SEDUCTIVE DREAM – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
SISTER PATTI – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount hung out throughout, placing him at a disadvantage in the home straight.
 
DEER MOUNTAIN – Stewards questioned jockey J. Lloyd regarding the performance of the horse. He indicated after entering the home straight and placing the horse under pressure it became awkward in its action and felt that the horse may have bled and for this reason did not ride the horse out over the final 200m.   A  post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer T. Edmonds was advised that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.  Mr Edmonds advised stewards he would have further tests performed on the mare in the coming days.
 
 
Race 8: Doug Carter Memorial Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
 
TALAPUS – After riding in Race 5, jockey R. Wiggins was stood down by the doctor and was replaced by  A. Sewell as the rider of the horse.
 
STAR ADELE – Slow to begin.
 
AMERICAN MUSCLE – Overraced for a short distance passing the 1000m. Near the 350m was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied. 
 
LIMESTONE COWBOY – When caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward to the lead passing the 800m.
 
TEYSSIER – Jockey D. Browne reported his saddle slipped forward in the back straight, placing him at a minor disadvantage.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start, including the results of an endoscopic examination.
 
HARD RULER – Leaving the 400m was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied.
 
HUSSON’S PRIDE – Raced wide without cover. Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount raced greenly in the home straight. Bumped by another runner passing the 200m.
