Race 1: BUNDABERG RUM QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

GREY COURT – Slow to begin.

HINANO – Dislodged L. Tarrant in the enclosure. Jockey Tarrant suffered a seemingly harmless fall in the incident and fulfilled his engagement. Following the event jockey Tarrant was examined by the Club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. Raced four wide without cover.

BOOMTOWN LASS – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Rider was obliged to stop riding after passing the 200m and shift the horse out to obtain clear running after being disappointed for a run. Made contact with another runner passing the 100m and became awkward.

MISS MAKEPEACE – Raced greenly throughout and hung out for a short distance passing the 700m. Forced wider in the home straight after passing the 300m.

MOONAN JOYCE – Laid out under pressure from the 300m onwards.

SCHERBATSKY – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 300m, forced out across heels and had to be checked. Apprentice B. Thornton, the rider of MOONAN JOYCE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) for directing his mount out to obtain clear running to the outside of FANTASAY at that stage, causing the interference to SCHERBATSKY. Apprentice Thornton’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 June and expire at midnight on Thursday 5 July 2018. In determining penalty stewards took into account that the interference was in the mid range.

SWEET – After racing greenly in the early stages of the home straight made contact with another runner passing the 100m and became awkward.

Race 2: YALUMBA QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards viewed the patrol footage of the start after being advised by T. Harrison (BURNING SUCCESS) and R. Stewart (SERPENTI) that their barriers were slow to open. After taking evidence from all parties and the starter and viewing the available footage, it was established that the barriers of those runners did not open in unison with the barriers of other runners, resulting in SERPENTI being restrained out of the event and BURNING SUCCESS being denied the opportunity to begin on terms with the rest of the field. Therefore, acting under the provisions of AR. 134A, stewards were of the opinion that BURNING SUCCESS and SERPENTI had been denied fair starts and declared both horses non-runners. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on BURNING SUCCESS and SERPENTI be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

6 cents in the dollar for the win #6
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #11
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

The starter subsequently advised that remedial work had been carried out on the barriers and barrier staff were satisfied that the issue which caused the malfunction had been rectified.

ENTERPRISE PRINCE – Hung out from the 800m until entering the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

HARPERS FERRY – Forced wider near the 800m and raced wide without cover from that point onwards.

PLATEAU PEARL – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

TELL EVERYBODY – Inconvenienced when tightened for room in the early stages.

THE LAST SEQUALO – Had to be checked in the early stages and shifted in, causing tightening to runners to the inside, when DEFENCE MISSILE shifted in whilst being ridden aggressively. D. Smith, the rider of DEFENCE MISSILE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in at that stage, causing interference to THE LAST SEQUALO. Jockey Smith’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 17 June and expire at midnight on Tuesday 26 June 2018. In determining penalty stewards took into account that the interference was in the low range. Rider was obliged to stop riding when disappointed for a run near the 200m and alter course back to the inside to secure clear running.

SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Slow to begin.

DAFEENAH – Overraced in the early stages when the pace was only steady and continued to overrace until leaving the 600m.

Race 5: PARKLANDS TAVERN CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1200M

VICTORY EIGHT – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Placed in restricted room passing the 1000m and had to be restrained. The horse returned to the enclosure with a minor laceration to the nearside shoulder.

SO INVINCIBLE – Forced wide approaching the 600m. T. Brooker advised that at no stage of the race did the horse travel. She added that the horse has not appreciated soft racing surfaces in the past and she felt that this may have been a contributing factor today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had moderate heat stress, and a swab sample was taken.

ALL THAT IS – Forced three wide after passing the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.

Race 6: BRIGHTWATER HOTEL CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

SEQUALO’S SPIRIT – After racing wide, was forced wider approaching the 400m when significantly inconvenienced by another runner.

SHE’S A MITZY – Raced three wide without cover. Rider T. Williams reported that the mare was inclined to lay in from the 600m.

TEAGZ – Raced wide throughout.

YEAHNAH – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in from the 400m onwards, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten on a number of occasions, and also obliging the rider to steady from heels over the concluding stages.

CAPO DI TUTTI – Tightened for room at the start and had to be checked. Commenced to hang out a short distance later and continued to hang out badly, taking no competitive part in the event, making contact with the outside fence after passing the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that the horse must officially trial prior to its next start.

CAPTAIN THE WORLD – Shifted wider after passing the 500m.

Race 7: CELLARBRATIONS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

Trainer M. Lakey was fined $100 for the late declaration of P. Hammersley as the rider of OUR JAMAICA.

ONE STRYKE – J. Orman reported that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance, although he added that as the horse was having its first start at this distance, he felt that it may not have run out a strong 1200m. Race 8: THE LAKEHOUSE SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M

SHONECK AFFAIR – Blundered on jumping away.

HUSSON’S PRIDE – Overraced approaching the 800m turn.

LADY EIGHTY EIGHT – Overraced in the early and middle stages when the pace of the race was only steady before being forced to shift wider to avoid heels near the 600m and then raced wide whilst improving from that point onwards.

COPYWRITER – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it will be the intention to have the horse settle back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced whilst being restrained to obtain cover and was then bumped by another runner near the 850m. Improved on to heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn.

SERAMASA – Raced three wide without cover. Hung out from the 800m.

Race 9: IRON JACK CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1600M

SAVVY ROCK – Slow to begin and tightened between runners on jumping away, having to be steadied. Trainer S. O’Dea’s stable representative indicated that in hindsight the horse may not have appreciated racing in a cross-over nose band last start and again in today’s event. He said that at its last start the horse did not show its customary early speed and was slowly away again in today’s event. He indicated that in light of today’s performance, the horse would likely be sent for a spell. Stewards advised him that the horse will be required to trial prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SHINING BROOKE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
