TIME TO SAIL – Slow into stride.

Race 3: McCain Maiden H’cap - 1800m

IT’S NOT AN ISSUE – Whilst positioned outside the lead overraced in the early stages.

SIR PLUCKA – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a cough and had the presence of blood in the off-side nostril. Trainer D. Raffin was advised that the horse must perform a gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start.

Race 4: Lilydale QTIS 3yo Class 1 Plate – 1200m

HYDRANGEA – Slow into stride. Whilst weakening in the home straight was obliged to steady when tightened for room approaching the 200m. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MASSABIELLE – Crowded shortly after the start.

CAILINI – Jumped away awkwardly. When the pace slackened approaching the 700m improved onto heels and had to be checked.

DEFENCE MISSILE – After improving into a tight run inside CAILINI, was restrained from heels near the 600m and lost ground. From that point onwards was held up and unable to improve and had to be restrained on a number of occasions until passing the 150m, and was then obliged to alter course again near the 100m to obtain clear running. Stewards questioned jockey B. Stewart regarding his riding from the 600m. He indicated, with hindsight, he would have remained further to the outside, which would have afforded his mount clear running earlier in the home straight. He explained that he felt it would be a better option to continue following CAILINI in the early stages of the home straight as he anticipated a run presenting itself to the inside of that horse, however this did not eventuate and he was obliged to shift back to the outside to secure clear running. Stewards accepted the explanation when they did not believe jockey Stewart’s actions were unreasonable in the circumstances.

RED DOULTON – Held up for clear running until leaving the 200m and when passing the winning post became very unbalanced after jumping a shadow.

TOO HOT TO HOLD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

THE LAST SEQUALO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SWEET REPEAT – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 300m when looking to obtain clear running, shifted out and in doing so bumped runners to the outside. Jockey N. Tomizawa, rider of SWEET REPEAT, was reprimanded.

TAPESTRY VISION - Bumped and forced wider near the 300m.

TINTO ELEMENTO – Bumped and forced wider near the 300m. Bled from both nostrils during the event. Connections were advised that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
