From SCTC, 1.9.18 – Race 9

Jockey J. Guthman-Chester, rider of Courage Within, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift out in the home straight, taking  IDALIA’S DREAM out in the early stages of the home straight and causing jockey Hammersley to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of RECKLESS CHOICE.  Jockey Guthman-Chester was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 21 September and to expire at midnight, 29 September, 2018. Stewards also fined jockey Guthman-Chester $200 for leaving the course without permission.

CALLISTO – Slow to begin.

GILDED LION – Slow to begin.

ABSTAIN – Overraced in the early stages.

PAGE ONE – Shifted in near the 1300m and was steadied from heels and raced wide until approaching the 900m. When racing in restricted room approaching the 300m was struck over the head by the whip of another rider.

BUXTON - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PIPEMAJOR – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

TE RAPA – Raced 3 wide without cover.

FLASH FIGHTER – Raced wide.

RATIONALE – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, jockey R. Maloney indicated after beginning well he attempted to obtain cover by steadying in the early stages, which he was unable to do so, and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance.  He added that  despite not obtaining cover he was still disappointed with the overall performance in the run to the line as the horse weakened in the final 200m.   A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Sky Thoroughbred Central Maiden H’cap – 1200m

STAYING BLACK – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to assume a position outside the lead passing the 700.  Lost its off hind plate in running.

MISHANI PHANTOM  - Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to assume the lead passing the 800m.

ROSSMAY – Laid in under pressure from approaching the 400m onwards, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten in the home straight.  Then was obliged to race in restricted room over the concluding stages.

MEMBERSHIP – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

ROTHFORD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

REAL SKILLS – Jockey D. Smith reported his mount hung out from the 600m.

Race 3:  Skyracing.com.au Class 6 Plate – 1600m

MYSTICAL RENEGADE – The start of this race was delayed when the horse had to have its near fore plate reattached.  Jockey T. Harrison reported her mount overraced.

Race 4: Sky 1 F&M BM65 H’cap – 1000m

AULTBEA – Underwent a veterinary examination after being kicking the fence behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

ESSAKA – Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 400m in an attempt to secure clear running and made contact with another runner.

WILLO TITTO – Slow to begin.  When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated the horse was unable to muster early speed, then improved onto heels at the 600m and proved disappointed in its finishing effort.  He indicated the filly, in his opinion, was looking for races over longer distances.

DANGEROUS BEHAVIOUR – Jumped away awkwardly. Rider J. Hodge reported the horse laid out throughout the event.

COOL DRAFTS – Bumped by another runner approaching the 400m and became unbalanced. Raced wide.

MISS DEFIANCE – Overraced in the middle stages.

RED HOT MISS – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount laid in throughout the event.

LIPS ‘N HIPS – Raced wide without cover.

Race 5: Sky 2 CG&E BM65 H’cap – 1000m

LE DRAMA – As apprentice S. Lacy was indisposed, apprentice T. Marshall was substituted as the rider of the horse.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice C. Gallagher, rider of the 4th placegetter,  PROOF PERFECT, against Justify being declared 3rd alleging interference over the final 300m.  After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol footage, stewards found that near the 200m PROOF PERFECT was forced outwards by Justify, which shifted out under pressure.  This resulted in apprentice Gallagher having to restrain PROOF PERFECT at that point, and after considering the interference suffered, stewards were satisfied that it was sufficient to uphold the objection and the  Judge’s placings were amended to read:  No.10 – ANOTHER SLIPPER – 1st;  No. 4 – VALFIEMO - 2nd,   No. 3 – PROOF PERFECT – No. 7 – JUSTFIFY – 4th.

IMA FARMBOY – Inclined to hang out from the 600m until entering the home straight. Raced wide.

CAPO DI TUTTI – Improved on to heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied.

VALFIEMO – Hung out shortly after entering the home straight and initiated contact with JUSTIFY, which had also been inclined to lay in.  Both horses became unbalanced for a short distance passing the 300m.

JUSTIFY – Bumped entering the home straight when inclined to lay in. Became unbalanced for a short distance passing the 300m. Then laid out after being struck with the whip near the 200m and caused interference to runners to its outside.  When corrected then laid inwards, causing interference to another runner back to the inside.  Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.

PROOF PERFECT – Tightened for room and checked after passing the 200m. Raced 3 wide without cover.

TAKES TIME – Disappointed for a run after passing the 200m and had to be steadied, and was again disappointed for a run near the 50m and had to be checked and went to the line without being fully tested.

MIGHTY MITTERE – Raced wide.

Race 6: Sky Racing Replays BM60 H’cap – 2200m

ROULETTE ROYAL – Slow to begin. Placed in restricted room after passing the winning post on the first occasion and had to be steadied.

LEPRECHAUN LAD – Overraced whilst riding in the early and middle stages.

THE ZOFF – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.   Had some difficulty  obtaining clear running rounding the home turn. Rider J. Lloyd reported the tongue-tie came off during the event.

Race 7:  Skyracing.com.au Class 1 H’cap – 1600m

I’M JUST PINK – Slow to begin.

DEADLY SHADOW – Overraced in the early stages and had to be checked from heels on a number of occasions until leaving the 1000m.

RED RIGHT OUT – Became fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination before being cleared to start.  Raced wide in the early stages and when overracing was then permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 900m.

OSMOSIS – Raced wide in the early stages.

IDALIA’S DREAM –  Weakened badly from the 600m and finished tailed off.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia and mild dehydration.  Connections were advised that an ECG must be performed on the horse with results reported  stewards and the gelding  must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

CHOREOGRAPH – Jockey D. Smith, rider of SHONECK AFFAIR,  was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in leaving the 1300m when not sufficiently clear of CHOREOGRAPH, which resulted in that gelding being tightened for room, and causing jockey J. Byrne to take hold of that gelding at that point of the event and having to take evasive action to avoid the heels of SHONECK AFFAIR. Jockey Smith was suspended from riding in races for a period of 13 days,  to commence at midnight, 15 September and to expire at midnight, 28 September. Following this incident CHOREOGRAPH  shifted out and improved in a wide position to secure the lead passing the 900m.

SECRET SITES – Had to be checked from the heels of the weakening IDALIA’S DREAM near the 500m and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the off fore cannon.
