A protest was lodged by P. Cullen, the rider of CAPTAIN TOM, placed 4th by the Judge, against DONAVIA (S. Wilson) being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 400m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage it was established that near the 400m DONAVIA shifted out when insufficiently clear of CAPTAIN TOM, resulting in that runner having to be checked and losing its position. As stewards were of the opinion that the ground lost by CAPTAIN TOM in the interference exceeded the margin of a long head separating both runners at the finish, they upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 2, 4, 5 and 6. At a subsequent inquiry S. Wilson was found guilty of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift out at that point. Jockey Wilson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days, commencing at midnight on 28th March, 2020 and expiring at midnight on 9th April, 2020.
