SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Dalby 12.12.17
When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance of SNOOPER in Race 3, Trainer Mr. L. Ross advised that the gelding, which was racing second up today, was disappointing at its last start at Caloundra. He added that, in his opinion, today’s race was of a weaker class, and he believes the addition of blinkers to the horse’s gear was to the gelding’s benefit. Stewards noted the explanation.

GENERAL

The track was upgraded from a GOOD 4 to a GOOD 3 at 3.30pm.

Race 1: NORM PANKHURST CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M

MR MARBELLOUZ was declared at late scratching at 5.35pm on veterinary advice. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

37 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
19 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
42 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3

SP bets are not subject to deductions.

PUBLISHING POWER – Stewards questioned Trainer’s Representative, Mr. Mark Currie, in relation to the circumstances surrounding PUBLISHING POWER being late to arrive on course. Mr. M. Currie advised that he had experienced transportation difficulties when transferring the horse to the track from the off-course stable of Mr. B. Currie, however he acknowledged that the horse had failed to arrive on track by the prescribed time.  Whilst noting Mr. M. Currie’s explanation, Stewards nevertheless fined Mr. B. Currie $200 for failing to have the gelding on course by the prescribed time. Pre-race and post-race blood and urine samples were taken from the gelding.

SMASHED IT – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority of the event. On return to scale, jockey R. Williams reported that, after being ridden along in the early stages, the gelding commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain during the early and middle stages.

Race 2: GEOFF BATZLOFF CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

LAST ARMAGEDDON – Connections advised Stewards that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden off the pace today if circumstances permit. A public announcement was made to this effect. The horse was ridden accordingly.

INFOMERTIAL – Jockey S. Bogenhuber could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding which failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be experiencing a poor post-race recovery and an irregular heartbeat. Stewards advised Trainer J. Capewell that, prior to racing again, the gelding will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards, and subsequently produce a veterinary certificate for the gelding, including the results of an ECG.

DELANEY’S DESIRE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MISSY ATTITUDE – As Apprentice M. Murphy had not allowed sufficient travel time between the Gold Coast meeting today and the Toowoomba twilight meeting, Apprentice A. Spinks was substituted as rider.  Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on the mare.

COMMAND TROOP – Prior to the event, Trainer B. Keenan advised that the gelding underwent treatment for a muscle injury following its most recent start. A public announcement was made to this effect. Commenced to weaken at the 300m, and had to be steadied from the heels of LAST ARMAGEDDON (Apprentice B. Nothdurft) which shifted out at that point when not completely clear. Apprentice B. Nothdurft was issued with a severe reprimand as a result of this incident.

BEACH DRUM – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance at the 800m. Steadied to avoid the heels of other runners at the 300m.

Race 3: JOHN DANN MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

Shortly prior to the running of this race, it was observed that there was a partial lighting failure at various sections on the track, however Stewards were satisfied that there was sufficient natural light for the race to be safely completed.

EIGHT OVER – Forced to steady from heels near the 800m.

LUCKY JAI JAI – On return to scale, jockey N. Tomizawa reported that, in his opinion, the gelding choked down in the event, and for that reason he desisted from riding his mount out over the concluding stages. He added that the horse’s tongue was over the bit. Trainer Mr. T. Sears advised Stewards that, in light of tonight’s performance, he will now review the horse’s future in his stable.

POOLENZO – Proved difficult to restrain after being caught wide whilst racing greenly in the early stages. Checked severely near the 500m to avoid the broken down JONDY SHAMALA, and was forced considerably wider on the track

TURN UP THE HEAT – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

I’M A BEEGEE – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

JONDY SHAMALA – Broke down badly near the 500m and retired from the event.  The horse was subsequently euthanized on humane grounds.

As a result of the lighting failure, all subsequent races were put back one race to allow for electrical repairs to be completed, with the amended start time for Race 7 being 9.45pm.

Race 4: CAROL TAYLOR QTIS 3YO COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

FAIR SET – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages. Steadied from heels on a number of occasions in the early stages.

LITTLE JOHN – Prior to the event, it was reported to Stewards that LITTLE JOHN may have had blood present in its nostrils upon arrival on course. An examination of the horse by the attending yard Steward revealed the horse to have an abrasion on the outside of its nostril. A pre-race veterinary examination conducted on the horse confirmed the findings of the yard Steward, and also confirmed that there was no blood present in either of the horse’s nostrils. A secondary post-race veterinary examination again failed to reveal any blood present in either of the horse’s nostrils. Stood flat-footed at the start, and then failed to muster speed and lost valuable ground. Raced greenly throughout the event.

MISTER SPINKS – Raced wide without cover throughout the event.

OFF COURSE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 300m.

PROSSIMITA – Raced very greenly from the 600m, proved difficult to ride out in the home straight, and was eased down over the concluding stages. Trainer Ms J. Anderson advised Stewards that in light of the horse’s performance tonight she will experiment with its gear, and will place the gelding in a jump-out in the presence of Stewards prior to it racing. Stewards noted the explanation.

SINGAPORE FLING – Steadied from heels shortly after the start. Hung out rounding the home turn and proved difficult to ride. Laid in for a short distance shortly after entering the home straight.

THE REAL BOSS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from one nostril. Trainer Mr. T. Sears will be advised that the filly would have to pass a 1000m gallop in front of Stewards before returning to race.

Race 5: NICHOLAS SMITH CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1300M

WICKED TRILOGY and MAYBE EVEN YOU, which are both trained by Mr. B. Currie, were presented to the enclosure with the incorrect saddles and saddlecloths. Prior to entering the mounting yard, both horses were resaddled correctly. At a subsequent inquiry, trainer Mr. B. Currie pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175(k) in that he negligently placed the incorrect saddles on the respective horses which, as a consequence, led to a breach of rule AR. 140A(1). Mr. Currie was subsequently fined $500 as a result of this incident.

RIDEONABIGJETPLANE – Got its head in the air whilst being restrained shortly after the start. Momentarily held up near the 500m.

BOILING – Held out rounding the home turn.

STELLA’S DREAM – On return to scale, Apprentice H. English reported that the filly failed to quicken when asked to improve into the race from the 500m and, in her opinion, raced flat tonight.

SONADOR FIRE – Dwelt as the start was effected and lost ground and, as a consequence, settled further back in the field than anticipated.

Race 6: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable jockey R. Williams, the rider of HUMDRUM, to view the photo finish print of the dead-heating runners for 3rd place. Correct weight was subsequently declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

PLUCKANI – On return to scale, Apprentice N. Keal reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event.
