GENERAL

Due to delays encountered prior to the commencement of Race 7, the start times of Races 7 and 8 were amended as follows:-

Race 7 – 8.42pm
Race 8 – 9.20pm

Race 1: FURNEYS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

BRAD BE BOLD – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 700m. Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that the gelding became fractious in the barriers and, as a result, was slow to begin. Apprentice Nothdurft added that he elected to race 3 wide with cover leaving the 700m, at which time his mount was travelling well, however when asked to let down the gelding failed to respond and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will interview Trainer Mr. L. Hatch in the coming days regarding the horse’s disappointing performance.

RIVER FIRE – Slow to begin. Blundered leaving the 1200m which resulted in Apprentice S. Sweeney’s right foot being dislodged from the stirrup for a short distance. Apprentice N. Keal, the rider of EXPLOSIVE EVIE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at a point leaving the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RIVER FIRE which clipped heels, blundered and lost ground. Apprentice Keal’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 18 March and expire at midnight on Thursday 29 March 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Keal’s guilty plea, and his recent good record in relation to this rule.

EXPLOSIVE EVIE – Got its head in the air whilst overracing leaving the 1000m, and shifted out for a short distance. Race 3 wide without cover from the 700m.

YEEZY – Slow to begin.

TEDDER AVENUE – Became fractious in the enclosure and dislodged its rider. The filly underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 2: VANDERFIELD HINO BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1650M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted the connections of 3rd placegetter, ANYMORE, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter, HARADIFY. After viewing the film, the connections indicated that they did not wish to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

BENICO’S PRINCE – Held up rounding the home turn, and had to be eased from heels which resulted in the gelding becoming unbalanced. Jockey B. Pengelly reported that the slow pace of the race did not suit his mount, and whilst racing on the inside he was unable to improve into the race until straightening for home.

ANYMORE – Made the crossing at the 1500m awkwardly, which resulted in the saddle shifting back, after which the gelding attempted to buck for a short distance. Shifted out upon entering the home straight, and had to be steadied from heels.

REAL MYSTIQUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to race ungenerously and got its head in the air leaving the 1400m, and then shifted out for a short distance.

HARADIFY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: CROWE HORWATH BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 2180M

SCARLET POET – Bumped by DAVOR near the 2000m when that runner was taken in by DAZZLE EM SID which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Shifted out after making the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly, and was allowed to stride forward to settle outside the leader near the 1200m.

DAZZLE EM SID – Whilst racing wide, Apprentice R. Goldsbury permitted her mount to stride forward to take up a leading position near the 1300m.

DAVOR – Bumped near the 2000m when taken in by DAZZLE EM SID which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Raced 3 wide without cover from the 1200m. Bumped by another runner at the 150m.

SHANDAARA – Bumped by another runner at the 150m.

Race 4: CREATE FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

ZOUZOUZALO – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight.

ROUND ‘EM UP – Raced 3 wide for the majority.

RED MONKEY – Slow to begin.

BALLINGALL LASS – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early stages.

LUCKY DEALEN – Blundered at the start.

SHEEZINAJAM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 5: SEDL AGENCIES CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1210M

TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Shifted out to avoid the heels of SONG ONE leaving the 900m, and raced wide from that point. Hung out rounding the home turn.

SONG ONE – Got its head in the air whilst being restrained from heels near the 900m. Hung out rounding the home turn. Apprentice B. Nothdurft was fined $300 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground. Commenced to overrace leaving the 900m, and then had to be restrained from heels leaving the 800m.

Race 6: BUNDABERG RUM MAIDEN H’CAP – 1210M

NOBLE BILLY – Bumped heavily at the start by HAVEN SUGAR and lost ground.

UPPER GLAMOUR – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

DE LOSKO – Tightened for room at the start.

FIDGETAR – Had to be eased from heels when placed in restricted room by BEHIND THE THISTLE (App. R. Ride) which shifted in approaching the 1000m. Apprentice R. Ride was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.

INDE ROAR – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 7: BRISBANE RIVERVIEW HOTEL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1210M

The start of this race was delayed when the microchip which was identified in DE BANDIT VEGA did not correspond with the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Upon a further examination of the horse with another scanner, a second microchip was found which correctly corresponded with the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Stewards were therefore satisfied that the hose had been correctly identified, and permitted it to take its place in the field.

The start of this race was further delayed when a licensed person required medical attention by Queensland Ambulance Officers.

The start of the race was again delayed when LADY BY TIME became fractious in the enclosure and lost its off hind plate. As the plate could not be refitted the filly raced without hind plates. Trainer J. Fitzgerald will be advised that the filly will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

MORE FRIENDS – Steadied from the heels of WICCAN REDE (App. N. Keal) which shifted in when insufficiently clear near the 1000m. Apprentice N. Keal was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

BLACKBERRY – Held up approaching the home turn.

WICCAN REDE – Apprentice N. Keal was fined $200 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his allotted weight.

LADY BY TIME – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

STAR CUGAT – Got its head in the air whilst being restrained in the early stages. Jockey R. Williams reported that her mount raced erratically in the early and middle stages, and stated that her instructions were to ride the filly cold. Trainer M. Kropp will be interviewed in relation to the change of tactics at a later date.

Race 8: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT MAIDEN H’CAP – 1650M

ROCKING OSSIE – Apprentice B. Nothdurft was fined $300 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

HAVEN DUKE – After being caught wide in the early stages Apprentice S. Lacy permitted her mount to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1200m. Apprentice S. Lacy was fined $100 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration the totality of Apprentice Lacy’s whip use,  and her good record in relation to this rule.

IO’S ORBIT – Held up for clear running from leaving the 500m until entering the home straight. Lost an off-hind plate in running.
