Race 1: HAPPY 85TH JOYFUL COLLINS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1880M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, the connections of second placegetter BOUCHARD, lodged an objection against TISANI GREY being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that whilst TISANI GREY did shift ground outwards for some distance in the home straight, at no stage did BOUCHARD establish a run to the outside of that runner. Stewards further found that when BOUCHARD shifted to the inside of TISANI GREY, TISANI GREY was in fact clear of that runner at that point. Stewards were therefore not of the view that the interference warranted a reversal of the placings, and dismissed the objection.

TISANI GREY – After passing the winning post on the first occasion, was steadied to avoid the heels of LONELY HEARTS CLUB (App. R. Ride) which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice R. Ride was reprimanded as a result of this incident. After being caught wide in the early stages, apprentice N. Keal permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1400m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

WAR FRONT – Raced wide from the 900m.

LONELY HEARTS CLUB – Steadied from heels near the 900m.

THERE’S NEMO – Slow to begin.

SCHWARZY – Stewards accepted Trainer K. Jones’ explanation for the late scratching of the gelding at 7.56am.

Race 2: LIVING TURF CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was effected manually.

ROK’N’UNDATHESTARS – Jockey R. Williams reported that the gelding had a tendency to hang out throughout the race, and felt short in its action on returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Stable representative Mr. S. Canda was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

EXPLOSIVE EVIE – Lost ground when awkwardly placed at the heels of KIBBIT RAHEEB near the 1100m. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of KIBBIT RAHEEB, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of EXPLOSIVE EVIE resulting in that runner losing ground. Apprentice B. Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 22 April 2018 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 2 May 2018.

FIGHTING TEO – Stewards permitted apprentice N. Keal to claim only 1½ kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance. Apprentice Keal was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.

UNIQUE MAGIC – Declared a late scratching at 9.17am on veterinary advice.

Race 3: COCA COLA AMATIL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1650M

GOLD MONARCH – Raced wide in the early stages.

WHO AM I – Raced keenly in the early stages.

PIGINARKI – Bumped near the 700m, and made contact with the running rail, when WEWANNAWINNA shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

WEWANNAWINNA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Race 4: PRO-CLEAR MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

TATOI – Apprentice B. Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer T. Sweeney undertook to advise Stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the coming days which may have affected the gelding’s performance.

BIDAFLARE – Raced keenly and proved difficult to restrain in the early and middle stages. Momentarily raced in restricted room whilst weakening approaching the 300m.

MORE OF MARY – Raced in restricted room whilst weakening approaching the 300m and, as a result, was steadied.

Race 5: M&K CONSTRUCTION GROUP BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1650M

DE VILLIERS – Apprentice N. Keal could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly disappointing performance. Trainer Mr. B. Currie advised that in light of the performance it is his intention for the gelding to now leave his stable. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

PERSISTENT SHADOW – Slow to begin. Jockey D. Evans was fined $200 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

MENDELSSOHN – Began awkwardly.

MOSS GO NOW – Slow to begin.

Race 6: ART & SOUL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1210M

No racing incidents.

NOZAWA – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which commenced to lose ground from the 600m, failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Park was advised that as the gelding was resuming from a significant spell today a warning will be placed against it for being uncompetitive, however should the horse perform similarly at its next start, further action may be taken.

SPURCRAFT – Bumped on jumping away.
