UNCONDITIONAL – Laid in in the home straight.

EVIE CAT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

LIPSTICK EFFECT – Slow to begin. Shifted out when racing greenly near the 800m and, as a result, was checked from the heels of another runner. Steadied from heels near the 500m.

PRIMMISCUOUS – Stewards permitted Apprentice M. Murphy to ride the filly half a kilogram over his allotted weight as no other rider was available. Apprentice Murphy was fined $200. Slow to begin. Brushed the running rail near the 400m.

SIZZLING SUN – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: THE BAVARIAN TOOWOOMBA – OPENING SOON QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when SHAKUNI, which kicked out in the enclosure, required a veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers. The start was further delayed when DIARIST also underwent a veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers. Both horses were passed fit to start.

ARCHER’S TREASURE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.

PAPA JO – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be shin sore. The connections were advised that if they wish to continue with the horse’s current preparation it will require a veterinary clearance.

DIARIST – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

HUMP DE BUMP – Steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start.

LOVE AND LAUGHTER – As J. Bayliss was to be overweight, R. Goltz was substituted as rider. J. Bayliss was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Bayliss’ previous good record in relation to this rule.

Race 3: GC EVENT HIRE MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

AHWAHNEECHEE – Slow to begin.

MISS SHANIEL – Slow to begin.

ROCKIN’ RED ROCKET – Began awkwardly.

AGORA – Raced wide from the 800m.

ALPENGLOW – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 400m, and became unbalanced whilst weakening.

Race 5: UBET QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1200M

MISHANI ELECTRA – Made contact with the running rail after being crossed near the 900m. Stewards questioned jockey Beau Appo and trainer Mr. N. Saunders in relation to the disappointing performance of the filly, which had drifted noticeably in betting. Jockey Appo reported that the filly began well, and after being crossed in the early stages travelled well in the run in what he felt was an advantageous position. Jockey Appo added however that when placed under pressure the filly failed to respond as he had anticipated and, in his opinion, was disappointing. He went on to say that he had worked the filly in preparation for today’s race and, based on that work, he had expected a forward showing. Jockey Appo also added that whilst the filly felt fine in the preliminary and during the race, he believes the horse may have been lame on returning to scale. Mr. Saunders advised that the horse had only been in his care for a short period of time, however he had been satisfied with the pace work it had undertaken in the days leading up to today’s race. Mr. Saunders added that, based on the horse’s previous form, he had expected a forward showing today, and he was therefore disappointed with its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the filly. Stewards will follow-up the horse’s post-race recovery in the coming days.

AMELIA JANE – Slightly slow to begin. Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount felt somewhat flat today, however he could offer no further explanation for the horse’s performance which, in his opinion, was disappointing.

OKANAGAN MISS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

UMAWINNER – Began awkwardly with its head in the air and lost ground. Apprentice J. Murphy reported that after beginning awkwardly his mount settled at the tail of the field, however prior to the race he had expected the horse to settle in this position. He added that whilst the filly made some late ground over the concluding stages, he was somewhat disappointed with its final sprint. Apprentice Murphy advised that, in his opinion, the filly may be looking for further distances than today’s event at this stage of its preparation.

Race 6: A&R REFRIGERATION CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

AMTHAAL – Slow to begin.

SOLO ARTIST – Began awkwardly. Bumped by another runner rounding the home turn, and became unbalanced.

TOORAK COMEDY – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m to the inside of CRAIGLEA GALIO (R. Faehr) which was taken in by GENERAL ASSAULT (Apprentice M. Schrapel). CRAIGLEA GALIO – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide from the 900m.

SQUEAK’S BOY – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

HAY LIFE – Raced 3 wide for the majority.

Race 7: MOORE TRAILERS BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 870M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed slightly to enable Stewards to view the photo finish print of the dead-heating runners for 2nd place. After viewing the print, Stewards were satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

BOGEY MAN – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn before securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
