As jockey N. Tomizawa was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement in Race 4, a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: CARLTON DRY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

SWITCH AT MIDNIGHT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

ARMET – Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Shimodaira, in the presence of jockeys advocate Mr. B. Saunders, in relation to his failure to cross to a position one off the fence outside the leader during the middle stages, rather than maintaining a three wide position when there appeared to be an opportunity to cross. Apprentice Shimodaira advised that he allowed his mount to stride forward in the early stages, and when attempting to cross to a position one off the fence near the 900m he received a call from jockey Beau Appo, the rider of GREYWOLF, indicating that he was not clear to cross at that point. Apprentice Shimodaira added that he therefore remained in a three wide position, and despite his intention to cross GREYWOLF for some distance passing the 700m, after receiving a further call from jockey Appo he was of the view that he remained unclear to cross, and for that reason he elected to race in a three wide position throughout. Having had the opportunity to view the Stewards patrol footage, Apprentice Shimodaira agreed with Stewards that an opportunity did exist for him to cross one off the fence for some distance after passing the 700m, and that he had erred in not doing so on this occasion. Stewards advised Apprentice Shimodaira that, in their opinion, this ride fell below the required standard however, bearing in mind his inexperience as an apprentice rider, they took the matter no further other than to advise Apprentice Shimodaira that his ride would be referred to the Apprentice Training Department for further tuition.

JONZALI – Trainer T. Thomas was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice B. Nothdurft as rider. Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount hung out throughout.

ANOTHER PLAN – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels approaching the 800m.

THE BARRACUDA – Overraced in the early and middle stages, and raced wide from the 900m.

DREAM PIPER – Slow to begin.

Race 2: AG RIGGING BM70 H’CAP – 1050M

DRAGON STREET – Hung out rounding the home turn.

MY MAISIE – Trainer S. Green advised that he had instructed jockey R. Ride not to strike the mare with the whip as, in his opinion, the horse resents it.

REDEX – Apprentice B. Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the gelding’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

Race 3: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M

SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Trainer M. Nolan was fined $100 for the late addition of a tongue-tie to the horse’s gear. Raced wide without cover throughout.

DEEP LEAD – Hampered at the start and lost ground.

BOSS’S BOY – Apprentice E. Ljung reported that, in her opinion, the gelding raced flat today and failed to quicken when placed under pressure.

LITTLE MISTER – Hung out throughout.

Race 5: LIVING TURF FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

MEG’S INHERITANCE – Began awkwardly. Checked when racing in restricted room near the 900m, and again approaching the 800m.

A TISKET A TASKET – Hung out in the middle stages.

Race 6: JOE WAGNER GROUP CLASS 3 PLATE – 1860M

AMERICAN FRONTIER – Overraced in the early stages.

THERE’S NEMO – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia, and to be mildly lame in the near fore leg. Trainer S. Thomas was advised that prior to racing again he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding, including the results of an ECG, and the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.

Race 7: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

EURO GOLD – Apprentice S. Sweeney’s saddle shifted forward in the early stages placing her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY – Disappointed for a run near the 200m, and was forced to shift to the inside to secure clear running.
