SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for CHINCHINBILLA falling shortly after the winning post in Race 5 at the Lockyer Valley Turf Club meeting at Gatton on Saturday 2 June 2018.

On the evidence obtained from Apprentice E. Ljung (CHINCHINBILLA), Apprentice A. Spinks (BRANDY BALLOON), R. Ride (SALTARELLO) and R. Williams (WINE BARREL) in the presence of jockeys advocate, Mr. B. Saunders, Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos, and Mr. Andrew Spinks, it was established that shortly after passing the winning post WINE BARREL (R. Williams) took a very narrow run to the inside of CHINCHINBILLA (App. E. Ljung) resulting in CHINCHINBILLA (App. E. Ljung) shifting out, and SALTARELLO (R. Ride) being bumped by WINE BARREL (R. Williams) and also shifting out.  Stewards also found that BRANDY BALLOON (App. A. Spinks) shifted in marginally just past the winning post causing crowding to CHINCHINBILLA (App. E. Ljung).

Apprentice A. Spinks was initially charged with careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that just past the winning post he permitted his mount to shift in marginally resulting in CHINCHINBILLA (App. E. Ljung) being crowded for room however, after taking further evidence, Stewards could not be satisfied that Apprentice Spinks was solely responsible for CHINCHINBILLA (App. E. Ljung) falling, and therefore elected not to proceed with the charge. Nevertheless, Apprentice A. Spinks was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in after passing the winning post.

Nevertheless, Mr. Gollan was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Lloyd) when not sufficiently clear of MAHUSSEY (P. Hammersley) resulting in MAHUSSEY being checked. Jockey Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, commencing at midnight on Saturday 16 June 2018 and expiring at midnight on Sunday 24 June 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Tomizawa’s guilty plea and his previous good record in relation to this rule.
