Race 1: FURNEYS STOCKFEEDS CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1210M

PALACE TYCOON – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised that, in his opinion, the gelding never travelled strongly during the race which he attributed to the 1200m being below the horse’s optimal distance, particularly bearing in mind that it was stepping back in distance. He added that the gelding was rising sharply in weight today from its most recent start which may also have contributed to the horse’s below market performance. Trainer Mr. T. Sears agreed with the comments provided by jockey Tomizawa, and added that he would like to step the horse back up in distance for its next start.

IRON GEORGE – Began awkwardly.

DEVILS PINCH – Tightened for room on jumping away. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CHASE THE WIND – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DESERT PLAYBOY – Slow to begin.

Race 2: MITTYS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1640M

HARADIFY – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels near the 1300m. N. Tomizawa, the rider of WAKE UP JEFF was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HARADIFY (R. Williams) resulting in that runner being tightened for room and steadied. In this incident, LATINO LOVER (App. E. Ljung) which was racing to the inside of HARADIFY was also tightened for room and checked. Jockey Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 15 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 24 June 2018, being the expiration date of a prior suspension, and expire at midnight on Monday 9 July 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards deemed the incident and the interference to be in the high range. Raced keenly during the middle stages.

Race 3: ITHINK PROPERTY TOOWOOMBA QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M

The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners proved difficult to load.

ARCHER’S TREASURE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DAUNTING WARRIOR – Hampered at the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m. Changed stride in the early stages of the home straight and, as a result, shifted in abruptly resulting in jockey Beau Appo becoming unbalanced. Jockey Beau Appo reported that he was instructed to lead on the gelding today, which was having its first race start, however after beginning only fairly, he rode is mount along in the early stages before obtaining a position in the second half of the field.

FISH BURGER – Began awkwardly, and made heavy contact with another runner.

LOTZA – Raced wide without cover throughout.

MASTER BAYLEE – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr. J. Edwards was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

TOY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

LET’S BOOM – Momentarily steadied from heels passing the 1000m, and again passing the 800m. Raced wide without cover throughout.

UNO AMOR – Bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

COOLWEDGE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

Race 4: PRYDE’S EASIFEED CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

SILENT STATUE was declared a late scratching at 2.14pm on veterinary advice.

Upon arriving at the barriers MAGIC INK underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after blood was found in its mouth. The horse was subsequently passed fit to start.

GROGANS ANVIL – Buffeted between runners at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SET WAIT – Laid out in the early stages whilst being restrained.

MAGIC INK – Began awkwardly, and failed to muster early speed.

Race 5: TOXFREE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

HAIKU’S WAY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer R. Smith was advised that the filly will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.

MADAME GISELLE – Slow into stride, and then failed to muster early speed. Jockey R. Ride reported that the mare, which was fractious in the mounting yard and en route to the barriers, never travelled strongly at any stage of the race. She added that she was concerned with the horse’s breathing following the race and suggested to the connections that a tongue-tie be added to the mare’s gear prior to its next race start. Stewards questioned Trainer Mr. L. Hatch with respect to the performance of the mare, noting that it had drifted noticeably in betting. Mr. Hatch advised that the mare was having its second start for his stable. He added that the mare’s first start for his stable was at Rockhampton and, based on its work leading into that event, the stable had expected a forward showing and supported the mare in betting. Mr. Hatch added that on that occasion he was most disappointed in the horse’s effort. He went on to say that the mare had continued to work well in preparation for today’s race, however due to the horse’s run at Rockhampton, he was not able to be as confident that it would race well today, and for that reason he did not support the mare in betting today. In response to jockey R. Ride’s concerns regarding the mare’s breathing, Mr. Hatch advised that the mare is a thick winded horse, however it has been scoped on a number of occasions without any abnormalities being detected. Mr. Hatch again expressed disappointment in the horse’s performance today, and undertook to have a series of veterinary tests carried out on the mare prior to its next race start. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RUBY RUSH – Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the 800m.

EXCRUCIATE – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Steadied from heels for some distance when racing keenly in the early and middle stages.

VANDALUSCIOUS – Severely tightened for room shortly after the start, and lost ground. Bumped passing the 800m by RUBY RUSH which was taken in marginally by LILLANLIV.

BONNEY LORES – Began awkwardly.

LILLANLIV – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

Race 6: PRO-CLEAR CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1640M

LI’L RODGE – Began awkwardly.

FENCOURT – Jockey C. Franklin could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance which was below market expectation.

CHASINGWAGTAILS – Tightened for room and checked at the start.

Race 7: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1300M

FLYING CHARGER – Severely tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and raced wide with cover throughout.

GENERAL COS – Connections advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced wide without cover throughout.

OCCHILUPO – After beginning only fairly, shifted out shortly after the start making heavy contact with another runner and, and a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Disappointed for a run near the 400m and was forced to shift to the outside to secure clear running.

KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters on jumping and, as a result, was turned sideways and became unbalanced. Jockey K. Yoshida could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding, which was below market expectation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting a cough.
