GENERAL

As jockey K. Yoshida was indisposed due to illness, and Apprentice G. Willoughby was not attending the meeting today, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

After receiving a complaint from two QRIC swab officials, Stewards found Trainer Mr. J. Dann guilty of a charge of improper conduct under AR. 175(q) in that he struck ON A HIGH on three occasions in the vicinity of the wash bay following the running of Race 7 today. Mr. J. Dann was fined $300. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Dann’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 1: JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1625M

Apprentice S. Lacy suffered a seemingly harmless fall when she was dislodged from DAKOTA SUN during the preliminary. Apprentice Lacy indicated that she was able to fulfil her engagement. The gelding was quickly recaptured, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

SIRMOSA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

TONY’S DECREE – Laid in badly upon entering the home straight, and proved difficult to ride.

TATOI – Bumped upon entering the home straight by TONY’S DECREE which was laying in. Steadied near the 100m when placed in restricted room to the inside of TONY’S DECREE which was laying in. Jockey Beau Appo reported that his mount hung out throughout.

ASTANA – Steadied when tightened for room near the 1400m and, in doing so, was bumped by SOLITARY ROSE which shifted out, resulting in ASTANA then being hampered and forced wider on the track. Raced wide throughout.

CHOICE GAL – Overraced in the middle stages and had to be checked from heels near the 800m.

Following the running of this race jockey R. Ride was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers after she reported that she had been struck in the face by a clod shortly after the start. Jockey Ride was subsequently stood down by Queensland Ambulance Officers from her remaining engagement, and a riding replacement was made in Race 3 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 2: MOORE TRAILERS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

MISHANI RECKONING – Began awkwardly, and made contact with SHEBRINGS VOICE and lost ground. Shifted in abruptly whilst racing greenly leaving the 1000m, and became very awkward, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced, and lost ground.

THE INVESTIGATOR – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped OUR LIL’ HUSSEY. Checked near the 400m after improving onto the heels of the weakening SHEBRINGS VOICE and, as a result, shifted out abruptly. Steadied near the 300m to avoid the heels of MISHANI RECKONING (A. Allen) which shifted out abruptly when securing clear running. Jockey A. Allen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

TROOPER KELLY – Shifted in at the start and made contact with OUR LIL’ HUSSEY.

UNO TOPS – Commenced to overrace at heels after obtaining cover near the 1000m, and had to be steadied. Improved onto the heels of THE INVESTIGATOR near the 400m when that runner shifted out abruptly and, as a result, UNO TOPS was bumped and forced wider on the track resulting in its rider almost being dislodged. Bumped near the 300m.

MISS KOKO – Steadied from heels near the 900m.

SHEBRINGS VOICE – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which commenced to weaken badly from the 500m and tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Mr. N. Hilton advised that it is now his intention for the horse to be retired. Nevertheless, Stewards advised Mr. Hilton that should he continue with the filly, it must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Shifted in at the start and bumped SHEBRINGS VOICE.

Race 3: VANDERFIELD HINO FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

Apprentice J. Murphy was dislodged from IN YOUR ELEMENT in the mounting yard. Apprentice Murphy indicated that he was clear of any injury, and able to fulfil his engagement.

The start of this race was delayed when PRINCESS DEVINE cast a hind plate and required the attention of the farrier. As the plate could not be refitted, Stewards permitted the removal of the horse’s other hind plate, and the horse therefore raced without both hind plates.

DINISTY – Restrained to a position with cover closer to the rail in the early stages. Disappointed for a run to the inside of TAABINGA near the 150m and, as a result, was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.

IN YOUR ELEMENT – Steadied near the 400m when tightened for room between FIRST WITNESS and KEMSREY (A. Fancourt) which shifted out when not fully clear. Jockey A. Fancourt was reprimanded as a result of this incident. Raced wide for the majority.

MISS MELRAE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

DROPLET – Began awkwardly. Restrained near the 900m after improving onto heels and, whilst overracing a short distance later, shifted in and made contact with LILLY’S JEWELL, which in turn shifted out, resulting in Apprentice R. Goldsbury, the rider of DROPLET, becoming unbalanced.

NAMO KEKENI – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PLAY NOW. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PRINCESS DEVINE – Raced wide throughout.

FIRST WITNESS – Commenced to overrace for a short distance whilst being restrained to a position with cover in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority.

Race 4: GAINSBOROUGH LODGE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

KUNGA GEORGE MUNGA – Eased near the 900m when tightened for room to the inside of CLICKETY CLICKS which shifted in. Held up rounding the home turn.

CLICKETY CLICKS – Overraced near the 700m, and had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

STARCASTER – Steadied near the 1000m to avoid the heels of DE NOVO which shifted out. Jockey A. Fancourt reported that her mount raced greenly throughout, and when under pressure in the home straight she was obliged to stop and straighten on a couple of occasions and, as a result, her mount proved difficult to ride out.

KIMHORSEDASHIAN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CUPID’S AFFAIR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied near the 400m after improving onto the heels of STARCASTER.

Race 5: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1200M

ATOUCHMORE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto the heels of MAKE A RULER when the pace of the race steadied near the 900m and, as a result, shifted out and then improved forward before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 600m.

MAKE A RULER – Shifted out when the pace of the race steadied near the 900m, and improved forward to obtain the lead near the 700m.

MICKEY DAZZLER – Steadied from the heels of CHASE THE WIND when the pace of the race steadied near the 900m and, as a result, shifted out and commenced to overrace for a short distance. Steadied near the 550m after improving onto the heels of TURKANA.

ORIENTAL RULER – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung out throughout, revealed no apparent abnormalities. A warning was placed on the gelding for hanging out.

TURKANA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 6: POTTERS BOUTIQUE HOTEL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed when STUDLY ROOSTER kicked through the back of the gates and had to be removed from the barriers. The gelding was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

The declaration of correct weight was initially delayed to allow Trainer Mr. K. Kemp to view the photo finish print for third. After viewing the print, Mr. Kemp was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

The declaration of correct weight was further delayed when jockey Beau Appo, the rider of THE SHOWMAN, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against HINCHINSTYLE being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that whilst HINCHINSTYLE did shift in over the concluding stages, they were not of the view that the interference suffered to THE SHOWMAN was sufficient to uphold the protest, and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

DEADLY SHADOW – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Checked near the 200m after laying in across the heels of RED WEDDING which shifted out and away from COURTING JOY.

RED MONKEY – Slow to begin, and then hampered shortly after the start.

HERRSCHAFT – Tightened for room at the start. Jockey M. Hellyer reported that his mount did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

THUMBS UP – Eased over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room to the inside of THE SHOWMAN which was taken in by HINCHINSTYLE, which shifted in under pressure.

FLEURIEU – Slow to begin, and then failed to muster early speed despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had lost the off-hind plate in running, however no other abnormalities were detected. Connections were advised that the mare would be barred from racing at provincial TAB meetings until such time as its form improves at country venues.

Race 7: WIN LOCAL NEWS BM65 H’CAP – 1625M

GID UP STROP – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

MENDELSSOHN – Slow to begin.

LIMBO STAR – Eased over the concluding stages when tightened for room to the inside of ISN’T SHE ELEGANT (App. L. Kilner) which shifted in under pressure. Stewards advised Apprentice Kilner that she should have made a greater effort to stop and straighten her mount, and to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

ANIMAL INSTINCT – Altered course near the 200m to obtain clear running.

ROCK VANTAGE – Steadied near the 900m when racing to the inside of ANIMAL INSTINCT which shifted in. Eased near the 400m when placed in restricted room to the inside of GID UP STROP.

ON A HIGH – Jockey M. Hellyer reported that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action and, for this reason, he was reluctant to continue riding the mare out to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a high heart rate, and to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

ROCK DANCER – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Allen reported that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action and, as a result, he was reluctant to place the mare under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a high heart rate, and to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

Race 8: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when MAC’S GAL underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers before being passed fit to start.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Trainer Mr. B. Currie and jockey N. Tomizawa made an application for COOL DRAFTS to be declared a non-runner on the grounds that the barrier attendant had hold of the horse as the start was effected. After viewing the films, and taking evidence from all parties, including the starter, Stewards determined that COOL DRAFTS, whilst being assisted by a barrier attendant, became fractious as the start was effected, threw its head in the air, and reared and, as a result, took no competitive part in the event. Stewards were therefore of the opinion that the horse had been afforded a fair start and it was only as a result of its own actions that it lost ground. Trainer Mr. B. Currie was advised that the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

MAC’S GAL – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground, and was eventually eased out of the event in the home straight. A warning was placed on the mare for its barrier manners.

LINE UP – Hampered by CRAZY POPS near the 100m when that runner shifted in abruptly under pressure.
