GENERAL
 
Stewards acceded to Apprentice N. Fazackerley’s request to increase his riding weight to 54kg for today’s meeting.
 
Race 1: BYRON CAPITAL PRIVATE INVESTORS CLASS 1 PLATE – 1300M
 
The start of this race was delayed when BUZZER BEATER, which refused to load, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 5.01pm. On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BUZZER BEATER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
 
11 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
13 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10
8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
 
Trainer M. Boland was advised that the gelding will require two consecutive barrier certificates prior to next racing.
 
MODERNISTIC – Began awkwardly, and shifted in making contact with WICCAN REDE. Improved onto the heels of WICCAN REDE over the concluding stages and had to be steadied.
 
SPARTAN JET – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer K. Kemp advised that the gelding has been working well in preparation for today’s race. He added that, in his opinion, the addition of blinkers to the horse’s gear was the major contributing factor to its improved performance.
 
TAVI MCBRIDE – Jockey K. Yoshida reported that his mount failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages and proved disappointing today. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MILLEN FALCON – Laid out from the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
RUN THE CUTTER – Slow to begin.
 
WICCAN REDE – Bumped on jumping away.
 
Race 2: DARLINGTON STUD MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M
 
BAD INK – Began awkwardly and shifted in making heavy contact with BEGIN.
 
BEGIN – Tightened for room between runners on jumping away. Held up for clear running from the 300m until the 200m before shifting to the outside of HOT CORONA and running on well.
 
PATRICK’S ME MATE – Tightened for room between runners on jumping away.
 
LEADBURN LION – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
KNUCKLEBOX – Bumped by LEADBURN LION whilst rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track.
 
EXCEPTIONAL BELLE – Began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with PATRICK’S ME MATE. Raced greenly throughout. Hung out from leaving the 800m. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out making contact with LEADBURN LION resulting in that runner shifting wider on the track. Proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.
 
HOT CORONA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near fore leg. Trainer G. Stephens was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
THE GROUSE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 3: EUREKA STUD CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M
 
PATCHES – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
REMEMBER MARY – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Made the home turn awkwardly and attempted to savage LEROY ROCKS which was racing to its inside. Trainer B. Azel will be advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
 
GREY SKIES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced with its head in the air for some distance in the early stages and lost further ground.
 
EVAMAC – Placed in restricted room approaching the 800m when CHEVYS DESIRE (W. O’Connell) shifted in momentarily. Jockey W. O’Connell was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in the future.
 
GOOD GRAB – Tightened for room shortly after the start when bumped by another runner.
 
HARD ENOUGH – Began awkwardly, and shifted in shortly after the start making contact with GOOD GRAB. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
LEROY ROCKS – Held up from the 300m until entering the home straight.
 
SORRELLA TRAMONTO – Knuckled on jumping and lost ground.
 
Race 4: QUEENSLAND QUALITY HAY & PRODUCE MAIDEN PLATE – 870M
 
After becoming fractious in the tie-up stall, TATTS GOLD struck its head whilst rearing up and slipped over. The mare was declared a late scratching at 5.56pm on veterinary advice after being found to be lame in its off hind leg. Trainer L. Clarke was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
SNAP ON – Reared slightly as the start was effected and lost ground. Hampered shortly after the start. Overraced whilst being restrained from the heels of RHETORICAL approaching the 550m. Shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 400m and, as a result, forced UNO EYNO wider on the track.
 
ARCHIE FINITO – Slow to begin.
 
RHETORICAL – Began awkwardly. Shifted out shortly after the start and hampered SNAP ON. Shifted out leaving the 400m to the avoid the heels of CORAJILLO and, in doing so, made contact with another runner and became unbalanced.
 
UNO EYNO – Raced wide throughout. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 400m.
 
MADAME GRACE – Slow to begin.
 
FRENCH VIDA – Bumped by another runner near the 400m.
 
Race 5: BETTER THAN READY @ LYNDHURST BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1640M
 
SPLITZ – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
SPIRIT’S PRIDE – After being slow into stride from a wide barrier, the horse was obliged to race wide before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
 
UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Slow to begin.
 
HARADIFY – Steadied from the heels of PHOENIX FLYER (App. M. Savva) when that runner crossed to a position outside the leader approaching the 1400m. Apprentice Savva was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Improved onto the heels of PHOENIX FLYER (App. M. Savva) when the pace slackened. Apprentice M. Savva was reminded of her obligations when steadying the pace. Commenced to overrace and was steadied from heels approaching the 1200m.
 
PHOENIX FLYER – Shifted out whilst rounding the home turn, and made heavy contact with HARADIFY (J. Oliver) which turned its hindquarters resulting in jockey J. Oliver momentarily losing the use of his offside rein. Apprentice M. Savva, the rider of PHOENIX FLYER, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
 
Race 6: VALE RUSS BALE CLASS 4 H’CAP – 2175M
 
The start of this race was delayed when the cross-over noseband on CHARLIE’S WORLD broke in the enclosure and had to be replaced. The start was further delayed when CHARLIE’S WORLD, which had become fractious in the enclosure, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
 
CHARLIE’S WORLD – Threw its head in air as the start was effected and lost ground. Raced keenly from passing the winning post on the first occasion until a point near the 1400m.
 
CASINO GOLD – Bounded as the start was effected. Steadied from the heels of KIRA’S BEAT shortly after the start, and overraced whilst being restrained for a short distance.
 
KIRA’S BEAT – Inconvenienced by another runner whilst rounding the home turn.
 
Race 7: VALE BARRY JONES QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 870M
 
The start of this race was delayed to enable an adjustment to be made to the running rail.
 
Upon arriving at the barriers, FAY’S FURY, which became fractious in the enclosure and made contact with the fence, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
 
BLOODBLISTER – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn and raced greenly in the home straight.
 
FAY’S FURY – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
JABALIC – Raced greenly throughout. Lost ground near the 600m when it was reluctant to hold its position inside runners. Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
LADY BLACKWOOD – Began awkwardly, and then shifted in and tightened a runner to its inside.
