GENERAL

As R. Palmer was not attending the meeting today due to illness, riding replacements were made in Races 2 and 4 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Palmer was advised that she will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

As B. Pengelly was unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 2, a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Stewards accepted jockey Pengelly’s explanation regarding his inability to fulfil this engagement.

Race 1: GET OUT STAKES MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

IN AGREEMENT – Laid out for the majority.

MIGHTY ROCKY – Hung out rounding the home turn.

VEENA – Laid out for the majority.

MISSLLEERS – Bumped by another runner near the 150m.

MOTOMISS – Laid in near the 150m and made contact with another runner.

Race 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BRAZEN CHOICE – Tightened for room and lost ground when racing to the inside of TIGERPOWER which shifted in and away from BOOMI’S BUDDY which was racing tight to that runner’s inside.

DOC’S GIFT – Crowded for room shortly after the start, and then struggled to muster early speed.

TRUSTABLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

MINAJ A STAR – Steadied to avoid heels near the 950m.

DE NOVO – Raced wide whilst hanging out for the majority.

Race 3: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS BENCHMARK 78 H’CAP – 1200M

BOGEY MAN – Threw its head in the air whilst being restrained shortly after the start and lost ground.

SIMPLY SPLASHING – Slow to begin.

MR MARKOU – Following the race, trainer M. Currie reported that the gelding had bled from one nostril, which was subsequently confirmed by the veterinary surgeon. Mr. Currie advised that it is now his intention for the gelding to be retired. Nevertheless, Mr. Currie was advised that should the gelding return to racing it would be required to perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of Stewards.

TAKOTSUBO – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey J. Bayliss advised that the mare enjoyed a comfortable lead without being overly pressured throughout, however when asked to quicken from the 400m, it failed to respond to his riding and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Lipp advised that in light of today’s performance, the mare will now be retired.

Race 4: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

ADOUR ROCKET – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DANINA – Stewards permitted jockey L. Tilley to ride the filly half a kilogram over his allotted weight, particularly bearing in mind that trainer T. Dougall was satisfied for jockey Tilley to fulfil his engagement. Momentarily steadied shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GIBBO’S GIRL – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

GRANMA – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

MORE THAN CHARGED – Slow to begin.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred shortly after the start in which OXFORD MISS (S. Cormack) was bumped heavily resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced when STORMTROOPER (W. O’Connell) shifted out abruptly whilst racing greenly. A short distance later, OXFORD MISS was further tightened for room when STORMTROOPER continued to shift out, and when GOTTHERE (M. Hellyer) shifted in when racing to that runners outside when taken in by PERSIAN KING (B. Stewart) which shifted in when not completely clear. In considering the matter, Stewards were unable to contribute the interference to the actions of any one rider, bearing in mind a number of contributing factors, and therefore took the matter no further.

Race 5: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1625M

FACTORY WARRIOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ALADINA – Steadied near the 1500m when placed in restricted room to the inside of FACTORY WARRIOR (B. Stewart), which was taken in by LOTZA (App. M. Wishart), which was in turn taken in by MINOR LUCK (App. M. Kennedy), which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice M. Kennedy was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

NINE CIGARS – Bumped by another runner leaving the 1500m.

MADAM MAHAL – After being caught wide in the early stages, the mare was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1200m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.

STELLA’S CHANCE – Began awkwardly with its head in the air and was then tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than its previous start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

MOGUL – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was restrained by its rider to a trailing position with cover.

Race 6: WIN LOCAL NEWS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when KING BART lost its near fore plate in the enclosure which had to be refitted before proceeding to the barriers.

FISH ON – Raced in restricted room in the early stages and lost ground.

MALFOY – The gelding, which has not raced since November 2018, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped shortly after the start.

HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

MADDIARA – Slow to begin.

RUBY RUSH – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of another runner shortly after the start.

RESONARE – Bumped heavily shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

ANGELS LOVE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: LAZY YAK BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1300M

MISS SILKY – After being caught wide in the early stages, the filly was ridden forward aggressively in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail, however it was prevented from doing so by other runners and, as a result, raced on the pace in a 3 wide position without cover.

UNO TOPS – After being crossed by MISTER WARD near the 1000m, the gelding commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain for some distance.
