Crowded when steadied shortly after the start. Trainer questioned re improved performance - advised horse now a 9 yo is coming to appreciate softer going and shown best performances up in front and finishes off best in soft going at Gold Coast track. Added changed routine feeding regime and it had lost some weight and in his opinion improved in condition since doing so.

Bumped heavily and then crowded on jumping. Rider questioned - stated intention to be in handy position however, after beginning awkwardly then being crowded at start raced further back than anticipated. Specific instructions not to race near rail and for this reason remained racing behind NAKANAI until approaching home turn. In middle stages gelding dropped the bit and in his opinion was not handling soft track conditions. Bearing in mind big weight reluctant to ride for luck and of opinion ground in centre superior took option to come widest at turn.
