Had to be checked and lost ground approaching the 200m. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice N. Keal, rider of ELJETEM, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting wider on the course resulting in interference to GROOVY PLAYMATE. Apprentice Keal’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight, 14 December and to expire at midnight, 24 December. In assessing penalty stewards took into account N. Keal’s recent good riding record and also that he had only recently returned
