Even start.  Shortly after the start PORT LISA, CAPE BYRON and CARLTON CREW were tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  In the front straight on the first occasion PORT LISA and CAPE BYRON were both tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  Rounding the turn out of the front straight CAPE BYRON was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  Through the catching pen PORT LISA and CAPE BYRON collided resulting in both greyhounds being checked and lose ground.  In the front straight during the latter stages of the race MILLION DOLLAR turned its head and made muzzle contact with PAY THE WAY.

Stewards advised trainer’s representative Mr. P Cauchi that the greyhound MILLION DOLLAR would be charged under Rule 69 Marring, 1st offence, 28 days plus a satisfactory stewards’ trial 520m all tracks.

Steward questioned R Keidge the trainer of GUN POWER in relation to his greyhound’s actions over the latter stages of the race where the greyhound had collided with PAY THE WAY.  Stewards had concerns with regards to its action where it may have marred that runner. After considering all the evidence stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the greyhound had marred and therefore gave the ground the benefit of the grave doubt.

When questioned over the performance of CAN OF SPRITE which appeared to be improved on its current race form, trainer M. Brauer explained that the greyhound was having its 1st start from a short let up where its previous run was at Albion Park on 31 October 2016.  He said that the greyhound had not been drawn well in its previous starts and with the short let up and the extra work out of the starting boxes in his view contributed to its performance tonight.  He further stated that the greyhound in his view has some ability and he was expecting a forward showing in tonight’s event.  Stewards noted his explanation.
