RACE REPORTS

1.

ASSET BODY CORPORATE BRIBIE ISLAND MAIDEN 520M

The ‘all clear’ was delayed to allow stewards the opportunity to view the official race replay to determine whether any greyhounds chances in the race were materially affected by birds that were on the track in the front straight on the 1st occasion.  After viewing the available footage stewards were satisfied that no greyhounds’ chances were effected and therefore gave the ‘all clear’.

Even start.  In the front straight on the 1st occasion ALISSA’S ANGEL and PHANTOM HOUDINI were both tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  Approaching the turn out of the front straight SLICE OF CAKE was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  Approaching the turn out of the back straight SWIFT BARB commenced to give ground and finish a considerable distance from the remainder of the field.  In the back straight PLANE SPOTTER was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.

The greyhound SWIFT BARB underwent a post race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.  When questioned over the performance of the greyhound trainer Mr. A Thrower said the greyhound was having its 1st official race start however, had trialled on a number of occasions in a time of around 31 seconds  at Albion Park.  He said that he had some concerns when SWIFT BARB had drawn box 8 as it had showed a tendency to want to rail in its trials and he did not support the greyhound which is his normal betting activity however, he did advise the owner Mr. C Cassidy that SWIFT BARB had a moderate chance in the race.  He further stated that SWIFT BARB had suffered some interference in the early part of the race which in his view was an overall contributing factor to where it finished and he was expecting the greyhound to improve with future starts.  Mr. Thrower was advised that the stewards would be closely monitoring SWIFT BARB’s upcoming performances to determine whether or not the greyhound should undergo an official trial.
