Race 1 – Maiden Heat 1 431m

SPRING BO BO was slow to begin with ARDVARK beginning awkwardly and slowly.  Through the 1st turn FOXY JOKER, FULL BAMQUIN, SPRING RAYMOND and LEEROY ROLLER raced tight and unbalanced.  Shortly after, MCCAW MCCAW and GLENALLON RINGO came together.  Leaving the 1st turn ARDVARK improved onto the heels of LEEROY ROLLA and was checked.  Through the back straight ARDVARK collided with SPRING BO BO. Continuing through the back straight FOXY JOKER checked off the heels of SPRING RAYMOND and onto the running of FULL BAMQUIN causing this greyhound to fall and take no further competitive part in the event.

The greyhound FULL BAMQUIN was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.

The greyhound ARDVARK was vetted and no apparent injuries were found. When questioned on the greyhound’s slow start from the boxes in this event, trainer Mrs. C Harman noted that the greyhound began fairly in its first race start, and on this occasion (the greyhound’s second start) she believed inexperience was a factor.  Stewards noted that the greyhound emerged awkwardly from the boxes and advised that future performances would be closely monitored.

Race 2 – Maiden Heat 2 431m

NORDOC MAGIC and GO FOR HOME were slow to begin and bumped shortly after the start.  Entering the first turn NORDOC MAGIC gave ground of its own accord. Through the 1st turn SPRING DODGER and TILLY NO TAIL came together.  Through the top turn CHIEF CHEROKEE checked off the heels of DRAGON DUK.  Down the home straight NORDOC MAGIC and CHIEF CHEROKEE collided.  SPICY ATTITUDE was wide down the home straight.

The greyhound NORDOC MAGIC was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.  Stewards advised trainer Ms. K Hoggan that the greyhound would be charged under Rule 71 Unsatisfactory Performance, must perform a satisfactory stewards’ trial 431m all tracks prior to nominating.

Race 3 – Maiden Final 431m

Even start.  Through the 1st turn GOLD DIVA shifted out tightening ROCKING RONNY, EFFIE ROSE HI and STIRLING BLUE.  As a result GOLD DIVA fell and took no further competitive part in the event while STIRLING BLUE was severely hampered.  Passing the catching pen FIRE ALONG and LAST SEINE raced tight and unbalanced.

The greyhound GOLD DIVA was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.

Trainer of FIRE ALONG Mrs. K Hoggan was questioned by stewards on the greyhound’s improved performance in this event.  Mrs. Hoggan advised stewards that in the greyhound’s previous start at Ipswich it had received interference throughout the run; however she was pleased with the performance.  Mrs. Hoggan further stated that the greyhound’s trial times have been similar to the time registered in today’s event and she does expect further improvement from this greyhound going forward.  Stewards noted Mrs. Hoggan’s explanation.

Race 4 – Novice 431m

SPRING BEAUTY was slow to begin.  Shortly after the start RYLI’S DREAMER, GOOD BYE JOAN and CHANGALANG raced tight.  Passing the catching pen ANNIE ELLEN checked off the heels of HYPNOTIZED and raced wide into the back straight.  Entering the back straight CHANGALANG shifted in checking GOOD BYE JOAN which lost ground and hampered RYLI’S DREAMER.  Down the home straight RYLI’S DREAMER improved to the outside of GOOD BYE JOAN and turned its head, marring the running of this greyhound.

Stewards advised trainer Mr. R Kuhl that the greyhound would be charged under Rule 69 Marring, 1st offence, 28 days plus a satisfactory stewards’ trial 431m all tracks.

Race 5 – 5th Grade Heat 1 520m

Due to a malfunction, all starts from the 520m boxes were manually operated.

SHANAE’S MAGIC was best to begin with SPRING FIRECHIEF and BRALYN CHARLIE slow.  Approaching the 1st turn BRALYN CHARLIE and BLACK COBIA came together.  Through the 1st turn TEMNICK shifted out checking SPRING FIRECHIEF and both greyhounds raced wide.  Entering the top turn BRALYN CHARLIE checked SHANAE’S MAGIC which lost ground.  Entering the home straight TEMNICK shifted out hampering SPRING FIRECHIEF.

The greyhound SHANAE’S MAGIC was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.

Race 6 – 5th Grade Heat 2 520m

PACIFIC CHAMP and SPRING ESTELLE were slow to begin.  TOURMALINE and SPRING ENTRY were tight through the front straight.  Approaching the 1st turn SPRING ESTELLE appeared to ease in clear running.  Through the 1st turn PACIFIC CHAMP and BEC’S SECRET came together and raced wide.  Passing the catching pen SPRING ESTELLE appeared to ease in clear running.  PACIFIC CHAMP was wide into the back straight.

The greyhound SPRING ENTRY was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.  When questioned on the poor performance of this greyhound trainer Ms. L Neal advised stewards that she was unsure how the greyhound would perform when stepped up to the 520m distance or the first time. Ms. Neal stated that the greyhound had trialed well post to post at Ipswich prior to this run and further advised that the greyhound would be assessed in the coming days and should it show any signs of injury or fatigue it would not be nominated for a 520m event in the future.  Stewards noted Ms. Neal’s comment sand advised that future performances would be closely monitored.

The greyhound SPRING ESTELLE was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.   Stewards advised trainer Mr. L Waldon that the greyhound would be charged under Rule 69 (A) Failing to Pursue, 2nd offence, 3 months plus a satisfactory stewards’ trial 520m all tracks.

FYRE GAL and SUNNYSIDE JAY were slow to begin with BRALYN COOKIE best.  Shortly after the start OCTOBER SPRING tightened SUNNYSIDE JAY.  Approaching the top turn FYRE GAL checked off the heels of MAGIC KITCHEN.  Leaving the top turn FYRE GAL checked off the heels of OUT WEST.

The greyhound SUNNYSIDE JAY was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.   When questioned on the poor performance of the greyhound trainer Mr. T Zammit advised stewards that the greyhound does typically position at the rear of the field early in its races, and in this field it was not able to make up ground on the leaders.  He further advised that he believed the greyhound may be suited to 600m events and he will be looking to trial the greyhound over this distance in the coming weeks.

When questioned into the improved performance of the greyhound OCTOBER SPRING trainer Mr. K Wray advised that he believed the greyhound had always had ability and he was confident that it could perform as such over the 520m once it had gained some experience over the distance. Stewards noted Mr. Wray’s comments and advised that similar performances would be expected going forward.
