GENERAL
 
As N Callow was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
 
Race 5: PAINTED BLACK – A Allen – 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1110 metres
 
ECHO HUNTER – Slow to begin. Hampered and taken wider on the track and lost ground when THUG ROSE hung out when over-racing. Approaching the 200m held up on the heels of THUG ROSE before shifting out to obtain clear running. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
GIDGET – Began awkwardly.
 
MISSION OF LOVE – Jumped in at the start and bumped THUG ROSE.
 
OLD SONG – Slow to begin.
 
SERIGALA – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
SPIRIT OF MILAN – Slipped over in the enclosure prior to the event, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
THUG ROSE – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early sates and near the 800m, when racing ungenerously, hung out. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
IDONEUS – Rider K Wilson-Taylor was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the line.
 
 
Race 2: WHISPER PAPER QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1110 metres
 
NORTHERN DECREE – A short distance after the start crowded for room to the inside of NEOCLASSICISM. K Wilson-Taylor, rider of NORTHERN DECREE, was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.
 
PORKY – Slow to begin.
 
RING OF STEEL – When asked to comment on the performance rider J Orman stated the horse was inclined to over-race and hang out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed presence of blood in the mouth and an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer K Schweida advised he will report back to Stewards any condition which may come to light in the coming days.
 
SIMBU – Delayed the start after proving difficult to load.
 
SMART CITY – Bumped at the start.
 
THORSBY – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground.
 
LIKE A LARK – Jumped out at the start and bumped SMART CITY. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.
 
 
 
Race 3: TAB VENUE MODE Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
CHASING JACKLEY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
PRIMAL LOCKDOWN – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m and bumped ARGYLE PINK.
 
ARGYLE PINK – Bumped near the 200m.
 
SKIPPY – Jumped out at the start and bumped SWEET ALYSSUM.
 
TYCOON'S DELIGHT – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
SWEET ALYSSUM – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING Class 1 Plate 1050 metres
 
BE WATER MY FRIEND – Laid out shortly after the start crowding both RALPHIE and EYE SHOOT TO WIN. Near the 600m, when over-racing, had to be restrained from the heels of KINDLING SPIRIT.
 
EYE SHOOT TO WIN – Crowded shortly after the start.
 
RALPHIE – Began awkwardly. Crowded shortly after the start.
 
RAKKAUS – Slow to begin.
 
SNAPPY REPLY – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
RAPID RESPONSE – Put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced leaving the 400m. Lost the near fore plate in running.

 
 
Race 5: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Class 2 Handicap 1660 metres
 
DIASONIC – Crowded shortly after the start and lost ground. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
PAREDO – When asked to comment on the performance rider R Maloney stated instructions were to go forward and that after finding the lead the horse was inclined to over-race, adding that when placed under pressure leaving the 400m PAREDO failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer L Hatch was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start. PAREDO lost the near fore plate in running.
 
TAREX (NZ) – Taken in shortly after the start. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
GAUNTLET – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and early stages of the home straight.
 
GLASHABEE – Approaching the 400m improved onto the heels of SOVERIEGN LEGEND before shifting out to improve.
 
PAINTED BLACK – Shifted in shortly after the start taking TAREX in and crowding DIASONIC.
 
 
Race 6: XXXX DRY QTIS Three-Year-Old RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
DERANI – Approaching the 300m taken out and bumped GENERAL WOLFFE when GWAN SO shifted out to improve.
 
AMATHUBA – Change of tactics, more forward with blinkers on. Ridden accordingly.
 
DUCHESS ROTHESAY – After beginning awkwardly then bumped with GENERAL WOLFFE.
 
NATALIEANN – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Bumped with DUCHESS ROTHSAY at the start. Bumped near the 300m. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
LATE NIGHT DEVIL – Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
KING HAMMURABI – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment on apparent improved performance trainer J Edwards stated the horse’s last 2 starts had been over unsuitable distances, including a start on a heavy track, and today, with the drop back in distance and the firmer track conditions, he was not entirely surprised by the forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
GWAN SO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to the off fore heel and a minor cut to the off hind coronet.
 
 
Race 7: FIRST ASSET MANAGEMENT Class 3 Handicap 1350 metres
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced near the 1000m and had to be steadied from heels before shifting out taking SHEPPEY wider on the track. Trainer c Munce was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of HOT SPRING GOLD.
 
WHOZYADEELER – When asked to comment on the performance rider J Orman stated he was obliged to race slightly more forward than anticipated however when placed under pressure was disappointing.  A post veterinary examination revealed the horse to be displaying signs of fibrillation. Trainer L Freedman was advised WHOZYADEELER would require a veterinary clearance, including satisfactory results of an ECG test, and must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
RAYJEN – Near the 200m disappointed for a run between WHOZYADEALER and POWER BOOM
 
PETUNIA – Held up for a short distance leaving the 200m
 
SHEPPEY – Over-raced in the middle stages. Momentarily forced wider on the track near the 1000m. After racing wide throughout was then forced wider on the track from the 500m as runners to the inside improved.
 
 
Race 8: MULLINS LAWYERS Class 4 Handicap 1200 metres
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Jumped out at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
 
ONE SHY RUBY – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
THUNDER MANIA – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
SUPER GORGEOUS – Checked at the start between HOLIDAY DREAMS, which jumped out, and TORUN which jumped in.
 
TORUN – Jumped in at the start and lost ground.
 
REALITY – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
