GENERAL
 
Trainers C & K Geran were fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time for SEE FOR YOURSELF which was engaged in Race 4.
 
Race 1: HARMAN CONCRETE QTIS 3YO C1 PLT – 1100M
 
ANOTHER SPIRIT – Raced wide throughout.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND – Began awkwardly.
 
MISHANI SCANDAL – Approaching the 1000m shifted inwards and contacted the running rail. Shifted in under riding approaching the 200m.
 
LIFE'SAGIFT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m became awkward in its stride and a short distance later was forced wider when SMASHINGPLATES shifted away from the rail, then raced wide until obtaining cover at the 700m. Approaching the 200m was accidentally struck by the whip of the rider SMASHINGPLATES. Leaving the 200m was obliged to alter course to the inside of SMASHINGPLATES who laid out under pressure.
 
SMASHINGPLATES – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn and momentarily became awkward in its action after entering the home straight. Laid out approaching the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Rider C. Robertson advised Stewards that the filly may not have appreciated todays racing surface.
 
PORT OFFICE – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after losing ground. Approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course to the outside of MISHANI SCANDAL which shifted in under riding. Apprentice L Barr (MISHANI SCANDAL) was advised to make greater effort at keeping her mounts straight.
 
GRACIEDE – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be making abnormal respiratory sounds. Trainer H Norman was advised that a veterinary clearance with the results of an endoscopic examination to be furnished to stewards prior to GRACIEDE competing again.
 
After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good (3).
 
Race 2: LOCKYER DRAFTING DESIGNS BM60 HCP – 1400M
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of 2nd placegetter MYSTIC AROMA (A Thompson) to view the photo finish image and available films. After viewing the photo finish image and available films, apprentice A Thompson was satisfied with judges’ numbers and correct weight was declared.
 
COMFORTABLY NUMB – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
OUR GIRL EVE – Rounding the home turn momentarily became awkward in its action.
 
POWER BOOM – Approaching the 200m bumped with BAMBALAM.
 
REDSTONE – Approaching the 800m when racing keenly, was steadied for a number of strides from the heels of MYSTIC AROMA.
 
MYSTIC AROMA – Connections advised the horse would be ridden in a more forward position than its previous start. After being bumped shortly after the start, was unable to hold a forward position resulting the filly settling in the middle of the field. Approaching the 400m, became momentarily unbalanced when shifting away from a position on the rail.
 
BAMBALAM – Laid in approaching the 200m and bumped with POWER BOOM.
 
DISCO BEATZ – Leaving the 300m was tightened for racing room and bumped with the hindquarters of COMFORTABLY NUMB which laid in marginally and MYSTIC AROMA which shifted out to improve. A Thompson (MYSTIC AROMA) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident.
 
LAYLA'S SONG – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was clear to start. Began awkwardly and shifted in and bumped with MYSTIC AROMA.
 
Race 3: THE LOCKYER & SOMERSET INDEPENDENT BM60 HCP – 1100M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, it was observed that barrier five was unoccupied when the start was effected and runners SHALAA KING, MIGHTY MOOSE, BID IN A HURRY and TINDER all started from the outside of this barrier. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that this had no material effect on the outcome of the event and correct weight was declared.
 
KEEPMOVING FORWARD – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KINGSTAR AMBER – Near the 700m raced keenly on the heels of SHALAA KING and had to be steadied.
 
MIGHTY MOOSE – Raced three wide until approaching the 600m.
 
COYNES ROAD – Raced wide without cover throughout the event. Forced wider at the 400m when KINGSTAR AMBER shifted out to improve.
 
SHALAA KING – Near the 700m, had to be steadied from the heels of MIGHTY MOOSE when that runner laid in marginally.
 
BID IN A HURRY (NZ) – Near the 700m raced keenly on the heels of KEEPMOVING FORWARD.
 
MOJO BABY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Failed to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider and trailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-Trainer M Sears was advised that MOJO BABY would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.
 
Race 4: LOCKYER VALLEY WASTE MANAGEMENT LIGHTNING BM60 HCP – 1100M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the available vision to ascertain whether SADDLE BOY was afforded a fair start. Upon viewing the vision of the start, stewards determined that SADDLE BOY turned its head to the left just prior to the start being effected resulting in the gelding being slowly away. Stewards were satisfied that the barrier manners of SADDLE BOY were the sole cause of the gelding being slow to begin and correct weight was declared.
 
WHITEBAIT PATTIE – Knuckled on jumping.
 
SIP IT SLOW – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m.
 
SEE FOR YOURSELF – Upon entering the home straight was obliged to race in restricted room for several strides when WHITEBAIT PATTIE shifted out to improve. Apprentice J Molly was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
SADDLE BOY – Turned its head prior to the start and lost ground as a result. Approaching the home turn improved onto the heels of SEE FOR YOURSELF and had to be checked and as a consequence shifted out and bumped SNAP ON. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
LOLAROSIE – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TOP BIRD – Rider N Masuda reported that his mount had a tendency to hang out throughout the event. Approaching the winning post was bumped when WHITEBAIT PATTIE shifted in. Laid out a short distance later had to be steadied from the heels of WHITEBAIT PATTIE.
 
SNAP ON – Held up approaching the home turn and a short distance after was bumped by SADDLE BOY and had to be steadied.
 
EXPRESSO LOVE – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
Race 5: RDO EQUIPMENT QTIS 2YO MDN PLT – 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when CAPITEEL and ROSE of RAHEEN proved difficult to load. The trainer’s representative for L Freedman was advised that CAPITEEL must obtain two consecutive barrier certificates prior to its next start. Trainers R Lipp & N Hahn were advised that ROSE OF RAHEEN must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
 
CAPITEEL – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted and overall performance of the gelding, apprentice J Williams stated that he had anticipated racing in a forward position however after beginning poorly he initially attempted to find cover in the middle of the field, however when runners to his inside showed pace he was unable to do so and as a result, was forced to race wide. Apprentice J. Williams added that in his opinion CAPITEEL didn’t handle the turning Gatton track. Stewards noted the explanation tendered.
 
MAMA'S MAN – Shortly after the start was bumped heavily by ROSE OF RAHEEN and was taken in onto the hindquarters of LADY DEANNE and became unbalanced. A short distance later bumped again with LADY DEANNE.
 
MISHANI KINGDOM – Leaving the 1000m raced in restricted room to the inside of MR ENCORE. Approaching the 100m was taken inwards by MISS BOUCHARD.
 
MR ENCORE – Laid out rounding the home turn. Shied approaching the winning post resulting in the rider becoming momentarily unbalanced.
 
LADY DEANNE – Shortly after the start became unbalanced when bumped heavily by MAMA’S MAN which was bumped and taken inwards by ROSE OF RAHEEN. A short distance later bumped again with MAMA’S MAN.
 
MISS BOUCHARD – Laid out under pressure approaching the 150m before being corrected by its rider, then shifted in abruptly causing rider L Allen to drop her whip.
 
ROSE ALICE – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout.
 
ROSE OF RAHEEN – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped heavily with MAMA’S MAN. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 6: GOODYEAR AUTO CARE GATTON QTIS 2YO MDN HCP – 860M
 
Due to a stable administrative error, stewards granted permission for SPUR ME to race without a tongue tie which had been advertised as part of its racing gear. Trainer T. Button was advised to take the necessary measures to prevent a reoccurrence of this sort of error.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight L. Allen, the rider of 3rd placegetter BAG OF WHITT, viewed the photo finish image. After viewing the photo finish image, rider L. Allen was satisfied with judges’ numbers and correct weight was declared.
 
JACKED UP – Hung out approaching the 700m and bumped SPUR ME. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
MAGIC SUCCESSION – Approaching the 800m shifted in when racing greenly and bumped LE KITA.
 
EARLSTON - Raced keenly approaching the 600m and shifted out when being steadied from heels.
 
BETTER WINSOME – Raced keenly approaching the 600m and had to be steadied from heels. Approaching the 150m brushed with BAG OF WHITT on a number of occasions.
 
LE KITA – Slow to begin. Leaving the 800m was bumped by MAGIC SUCCESSION which shifted in while racing greenly.
 
ROY'S GIRL – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
SPUR ME – Bumped with BAG OF WHITT at the 700m and was taken outwards.
 
TAMSIN – Slow to begin.
 
BAG OF WHITT – Approaching the 700m was bumped by SPUR ME which was bumped and taken outwards by JACKED UP. Approaching the 150m brushed with BETTER WINSOME on a number of occasions.
 
Race 7: GATTON VIEW HOTEL MDN HCP – 860M
 
VIKING VICKY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHARMING SAM – Fractious leaving the mounting yard. A warning was placed on the pre-race manners of the filly. Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m was steadied and shifted away from the heels of THREE MORE WISHES when that runner shifted in. Jockey K Zechner (THREE MORE WISHES) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident. In issuing a reprimand, stewards were mindful that at a point leading up to the incident, THREE MORE WISHES was awkwardly placed on the heels of EMPRESS SECRET.
 
VAGANOVA – Hung in severely down the straight and was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages. Jockey K Bohorun advised stewards’ that his saddle shifted approaching the 100m which placed him at a disadvantage. Trainer S Foster was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of gelding.
 
MAPUTO BAY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting clinical signs of atrial fibrillation. Trainer M Nolan was advised that MAPUTO BAY would require a veterinary certificate of fitness inclusive of ECG results prior to completing a trial to the satisfaction stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
Race 8: TAB GATTON CUP BM65 – 2000M
 
HOSTAGE OF WAR – Dipped of its own accord shortly after entering the home straight.
 
DIVINE SANCTION – Bumped heavily on jumping by YOUNG CLIFFY. Made the crossing at the 1600m awkwardly and shifting in contacting the running rail resulting in the gelding becoming momentarily unbalanced.
 
BETTER ETHICS – Apprentice J Molloy was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 8 times prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted.
 
THE MINIVAN – Hampered on jumping. Laid in under pressure shortly after entering the home straight.
 
YOUNG CLIFFY – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with DIVINE SANCTION. Approaching the 1500m was obliged to steady from the heels of NITROGLYCERINE.
 
GOT THE LOT – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
PAINTED BLACK – Shortly after the start was bumped heavily by DIVINE SANCTION who was bumped and taken out by YOUNG CLIFFY. Rider J. Murphy reported that gelding was under pressure from the 800m and was in his opinion disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DELAYED LAUNCH (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
BOLD DELAGO – Laid in for majority of the home straight and was unable to be fully tested by its rider. Trainer G Hay was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Shifted out on jumping.
 
Race 9: REDMONDS PET & LIVESTOCK SUPPLIES MDN HCP – 1600M
 
The start of this race was delayed 5 mins owing to repairs being required to a section of the rail near the 800m.
 
SISYPHEAN – Began awkwardly.
 
BAGEEL – Bumped on jumping by HE’S VIRAL.
 
ROY'S ROAD – Near the 1300m was obliged to steady from the heels of SCARRED OF LIFE which shifted out after improving onto the heels of SISYPHEAN.
 
SCARRED FOR LIFE – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with HE’S VIRAL. Leaving the 1300m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of SISYPHEAN. Laid in at various stages of the event.
 
CRAYPOT – When questioned regarding tactics adopted and the performance of the filly, rider S Lacy stated that her intentions were to be positive on the filly, however due to the wide barrier and other runners showing pace to her inside, she elected to not to apply pressure to the filly in an attempt to race forward as she was of the opinion this would result in her being caught racing wide. Rider S Lacy further added that CRAYPOT failed to travel comfortably and would be better suited on a bigger track than that of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation tendered.
 
HE'S VIRAL (NZ) – Bumped heavily on jumping by SCARRED FOR LIFE and was taken out onto BAGEEL. Race in restricted room between SCARRED FOR LIFE and BAGEEL shortly after the start and was buffeted on a number of occasions.
 
SIZZLING DIAMOND – Raced wide throughout.
