GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
 
Race 9- AFRICAN STORM – Craig Robertson +1/2kg
 
Apprentice D McGillivray was fined $800 for accepting rides in races 2,7,9 when unable to claim down to his allocated riding weight. In assessing penalty, stewards were mindful that apprentice McGillivray was permitted to fulfil his engagements in each of these events despite failing to claim to his allotted weight.
 
Race 1: VALE LESTER PIGGOTT QTIS Two Year Old Maiden Plate 900 metres
 
MINTO'S POWER – Began awkwardly.
 
VAGANOVA – Trainer S Foster was fined $100 for the late rider notification. Apprentice D McGillivray was permitted to claim only 2kg of his 3kg allowance as this was a late pickup ride on race morning. Raced wide throughout and hung out rounding the home turn.
 
MINOKAWA – Jockey B Loy reported that the filly at no stage travelled comfortably on the prevailing track conditions.
 
TAMSIN – Began awkwardly.
 
WAR AND FINANCE – Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed.
 
Race 2: DINDAS Maiden Plate 1800 metres
 
CONTRERAS – Tightened for room at the start. When placed under pressure near the 250m, commenced to lay in making contact with another runner and as a result proved difficult to ride out.
 
HE'S VIRAL – Tightened for room at the start.
 
SPIRAL ARCHITECT – Jockey B Loy was unable to offer any tangible explanation in relation to the below market expectation performance, other than the gelding may not have handled today’s prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
PRETTY POSY – Began awkwardly. After being caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a forward position and as a result settled further forward than anticipated.
 
MARNIE'S STAR – Bumped heavily by another runner near the 200m and became unbalanced.
 
 
Race 3: MITEK Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
BENEFICIENT – Steadied from heels near the 700m and again near the 600m.
 
ZORAH – Failed to muster early speed.
 
STRATA KING – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority of the event.
 
Race 4: HUME DOORS & TIMBER QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
The start was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
UNION SPIRIT – Jumped in the air at the start.
 
AUSBRED YAHOO – Laid out during the middle stages.
 
CALLYWAG – Slow into stride.
 
LATE NIGHT DEVIL – Laid out during the middle stages.
 
YES WE'RE READY – Apprentice W Peel reported that the gelding took some riding in the early stages to obtain its customary leading position. She added that once able to find the leading position near the 1000m, the gelding travelled only fairly and was disappointing in the home straight when placed under pressure. Apprentice Peel went on that state that in her opinion the gelding failed to handle the prevailing tack conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 5: HYNE TIMBER QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap1200 metres
 
The start was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
HATTUSA – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
VENETIAN DANCER – Began awkwardly.
 
APRIL IN AUGUSTA – Began awkwardly.
 
MISS BOUCHARD – Apprentice S Tomlinson was fined $300 for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight.
 
SEA COMMITS – Raced three-wide without cover for the majority. Forced to shift out when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 100m.
 
Race 6: ARCHITECTURAL WINDOW SYSTEMS Class 3 Handicap1800 metres
 
EMALEAH – Slow to begin.
 
Race 7: WESBEAM Class 2 Plate 1200 metres
 
WHITEBAIT PATTIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NO DOUBT A STAR – Rounding the home turn, momentarily raced in restricted room and lost ground.
 
POITA – Began awkwardly losing ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HAURAKI GULF – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ANOTHER SPIRIT – Jockey B Loy was unable to offer any tangible explanation in relation to the below market expectation performance, other than the gelding may not have handled today’s prevailing track conditions.
 
SHEEZASINGA – Laid in during the early stages.
 
ROSE BOUQUET – Slow to muster early speed.
 
GREEN KUDOS – Slow to muster early speed.
 
Race 8: EZEQUOTE RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres
 
PASCAL – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Jockey L Dittman was unable to offer any tangible explanation in relation to the below market expectation performance, other than the gelding may not have handled today’s prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
RARI – Cast an off hind plate in running.
 
IRING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
OREGON – Began awkwardly.
 
SPLIT JETE – Cast a near hind plate in running.
 
MY ADELINE – Began awkwardly. Cast a near hind plate in running.
 
Race 9: EZEQUOTE RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres
 
AMPHAWA – Raced with cover throughout.
 
FAST THINKER – Jockey D Peisley was suspended for a period of 7 days for using his whip on 12 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii). The period of suspension is to commence at midnight on the 4/06/2022 and to expire at midnight on the 11/06/2022.
 
LIPEANSASS – Put its head down in the barrier just prior to the start being affected, and as a result lost ground.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Jockey M Murphy was reprimanded for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
GEOSTORM – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
AFRICAN STORM – Began awkwardly and was then steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start. Steadied from heels near the 700m and again near the 600m. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
TIMELY SHADOW – Slow to begin.
 
LUCAP – Raced with cover throughout.
