DIVINE COURAGE – After standing awkwardly in the barriers, was slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned by stewards in relation to his riding over the concluding stages, jockey N Callow reported that the gelding had a tendency to lay out over the final 150m, which resulted in him momentarily having to stop riding with the whip and straighten his mount approaching the 100m. Jockey Callow added that approaching the finish line he was concerned that ARCARIUS which had gradually shifted ground inwards over the concluding stages, may have continued to shift in and crowd his running over the final few strides and for that reason he did not fully pressure his mount at this stage of the race. After reviewing the patrol footage, stewards accepted that Jockey Callow was riding cautiously over the concluding stages however his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances.

MEXICAN STAR – Began awkwardly, bumping another runner. Near the 950m, was tightened for room and checked. At a subsequent inquiry jockey L Dittman, the rider of EVA DANIELA was issued a charge of careless riding under the terms of AR131(a) in that as the rider of that filly, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MY ADELINE which was tightened for room and forced inwards resulting in MEXICAN STAR being tightened for room and checked. Jockey L Dittman pleaded not guilty to the charge and made submissions in defence of the charge issued against him. Stewards after giving consideration to jockey Dittman’s defence, elected to withdraw the charge of careless riding against him and determined that HER EMPIRE which was racing to the inside of MEXICAN STAR at that point of the race had shifted out marginally contributing to this incident. Whilst electing not to proceed with the charge of careless riding, Jockey Dittman was nevertheless reprimanded for causing the initial tightening to the runners to his inside.
