Race 1: BLACK TOYOTA/ RURAL INSURANCE SERVICED/ SIGNASAURUS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 METRES

TORRADAY- P RANDALL- travelled wide for the majority of the event and weakened noticeably over the final 100 metres. Jockey P Randall later advised Stewards that his mount had run ungenerously from the 600 metres and when he elected to use the whip at the home turn, his mount seemingly resented the whip and was inclined to lay out.

BROOK’S GIRL- tightened for room between runners shortly after the start

COUNTRY BOY- was slow to begin

PINNAROO- raced wide for the majority of the event.

STEPPING STONE- jumped awkwardly and raced disappointing throughout. Stewards spoke with Jockey J Rudd who advised that his saddle had slipped shortly after the start making it difficult to ride for the remainder of the event. Stewards noted Jockey Rudd’s explanation.

LUCKY ENUFF- approaching the 800 raced four wide and continued to travel wide for the majority of the event.

OUR STORMY GIRL- after beginning well and after obtaining a leading position began racing fearlessly from the 800m. Stewards spoke with Appr Jockey T Felon questioning her about her riding tactics on the mare. She advised that her instructions were to lead or take a forward position, from the 800m she was unable to hold the horse and had no option but to lead from that point. Stewards noted Appr Jockey Felon’s explanation. Stewards spoke with Trainer Ms G Bell who advised the horse would lead if possible, but she didn’t expected it to over race as it did today.

MURANO MAGIC- laid in from the home straight for some distance Trainer Mr B Bowen would later be advised by Stewards that a Warning would be placed on the horse.

HANGRY- Declared a late scratching at the barriers by Stewards acting under Vets advice. The horse was bleeding from both nostrils and officially scratched at 1.21pm.  Stewards ordered a Vet Certificate to ascertain the cause of the bleeding due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the matter. The horse had treatment in February for a nasal issue which may have contributed to the bleed. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HANGRY be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers placed prior to 1.21pm.

Trainer L Mawn was advised that a Vet Certificate was required prior to the horse racing again.

AIRACOBRA- on returning to scale Jockey P Randall advised that he felt his horse may be lame as its action didn’t feel right. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a split underneath the horse’s offside front hoof. Trainer Mr J Devine was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again. Stewards reprimanded Mr Devine under LR67 for the late notification of a rider. In determining penalty Stewards considered Mr Devine’s excellent record in relation to this Rule.

Race 5: NUTRIENT AG SOLUTIONS RATINGS BAND 0-55 HANDICAP 1400 METRES

THE KROC- stood flat footed as the start was affected and as a result was tailed off and raced there for the remainder of the event. Trainer Mr W Pugsley was later advised a Warning would be placed on the horse.

GEKKO- After the running of Race 4 Trainer R Kerwin and Jockey B Richardson made representation to Stewards to have GEKKO declared a late scratching due to the deterioration of the track surface. She further stated although the track was safe, that as the day has gone on the track in her opinion was uneven and the surface became more inconsistent. She stated in her opinion the horse would not race well and not handle the conditions today. Stewards considered R Kerwin’s application and subsequently declared GEKKO a late scratching at 2.55pm acting under AR 69. Stewards were of the opinion that an embargo should not be placed on GEKKO on dirt surfaces similar to today’s track at this time.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GEKKO be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers placed prior to 2.55pm.

SHIJIN- when approaching the 1200m, did lay in for a short distance inconveniencing SEA ECHO.

SEA ECHO- slow to begin, Stewards spoke with Jockey T Banks regarding the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance today. Jockey T Banks advised that his mount was tightened for room as a result of SHIJIN laying in when approaching the 1200m point. As there was no footage available of the incident Jockey Banks described, Stewards advised Jockey B Richardson the rider of SHIJIN and Jockey Banks to exercise more care in the future. Jockey Banks then stated his horse never travelled well from that point and changed strides several times from the 500m and failed to improve despite his best efforts. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding in running. The Vet examination revealed the presence of a minor cut on the off hind central aspect of the fetlock. No Vet Certificate was required.
